Well, I thought we had found "IT," the best possible liquid stove fuel for our Trangia burners and our DIY creations. We are able to purchase high purity ethanol in the Philippines. It has the highest heat content of any of the alcohols, you need to pack less than other fuels. It burns super clean. The price is decent from a local cosmetic supplier we found online. I have never tested acetone a fuel. A quick online search has convinced me to venture out before an approaching tropical storm hits Luzon and purchase a small bottle from the hardware store in front of our subdivision. Schools in our province have been closed as a precaution. Now we will have a fun test project. Thank you for sharing/presenting this "secret" information.
@OceansEleven-sd8wf hiya, yeah... we are good cheers. Always lovely to hear from you and thank you for your continued support and comments. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
One tip - If you are making one of these at home, the top of most cans can be opened with a standard can opener - This flattens down the rough edge, and is also useful for turning an old drink can into a useful and reusable metal cup. Probably safer than jabbing it with a knife as well. I do it all the time with coke/beer/energy drink cans. (by "standard can opener", I mean the one with two wheels, not the old style ones with a single gear and then a "tooth" that punches the hole)
@cjace77 as full time tent dwelling Nomads, we'd much rather carry our knives than a can opener. But yes, by all means, if you're making it in a house, use what's available. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
If you turn you can upsidow on a flat brick andrub until the seam is worn through then the top will just pop of clean saves staying yourself .love watching you two I look forward to your kids x
I've been using a pop can stove like that for years, but much smaller made from an energy drink can which is fine for one person. Fits in my titanium much with a tin foil windshield, matches and little cloth.
Yep, Trangia stoves can trap air, as it heats it expands and can blow. I made an indoor hobo heater from a couple of cans with a wick which gave a lovely blue flame, which ran on ethanol a couple of Winters ago. The heat was lovely, but a pocket of air got trapped and it blew the interior can off shooting a blue flame across my living room floor.
Thanks, that's a great stove 😊 interesting to hear about it from people who use them every day. I'm such a lightweight my trangia hasn't clogged up yet 😂
Just be careful Cully, it blows good, and as you may or may not know... fuel that's on fire being spat in all directions.... is really hard to put out! But stay safe and HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼👍🏼
Hi Hoppers 😊 thanks for the video . I'd like to ask if you would do a video about your catapults ( bean flippers ) and see how you prepare any game/meat that you get. Sorry this so short a request i don't normally leave a comment. For fear of saying the wrong thing. 😊
@markpearce7036 that's cool Cully, we will definitely be happy to do one, but we may have to set it up for members only as not to offend too many people and keep youtube happy. But... give us a moment and we'll see if it can be done respectfully without locking it down. Great comment and greatly received. Cheers, HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼👍🏼
@madeinengland007 you're very lucky for the water to have extinguish it. But definitely not safe in our opinion, be better off with smothering it with either earth, or something to that effect. Cheers for commenting and HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Awesome, I've made a few of these, they work very well and very handy when out in the wilds. Have you tried the ground stove, like a u shape hole in the ground full of twigs, you don't need a can just a hole in the ground. There is a name for it but cant remember what its called. Anyway thanks very much for sharing your knowledge. Happy Hopping hoppers 🙏🍄
@Dr-Sy yes, it's a dekota firepit Cully, but we think we're actually near a peatland at the moment, so watch out for a future video when we're not near one lol. Thanks for you continued support and comments, really means alot. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Regarding the trangia; was it to do with the burner or could it have been the fuel? Or at least how it was added? Trangias are regarded as very safe, which is why they've been used by local authorities regarding children, for years. The danger is that if methylated spirit is added to an already warm burner, (normally not sufficiently cooled) or to an already burning burner, then it explodes, often with horrific results.
@mallyredfearn6834 it's literally overuse.. eventually it clogs up with longterm use. The can stove doesn't get clogged and easily cleaned. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
@garywheeley5108 Hiya, Read our Bio please. And we never disclose our live location publicly to thousands of people lol... It's the Nomad way, and common sense. If you'd like more information, please also email... link in bio. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
@@loghoppers No it won't. It's an open container, so how is it going to pressurise? The worst that can happen is they overheat and get a bit 'lively.' I've been using one on and off for 40 years, and I've neither seen nor heard of it happening.
@sarkybugger5009 sure, we've used one every day, 2-3 times a day at least and for 2yrs solid. Yes... they do blow. But as mentioned in the video, we don't use the fuel intended for that burner specific. We've always used nail varnish remover as mentioned, because other perhaps cleaner fuels can be very pricey for us fulltime Nomads. Anyhow, thanks for your comment. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Please don’t cut yourself when doing this! I’ve plenty of scars from such accidental behaviour… omg it effing bled and I was not well (Blood phobia) for the rest of the day!! Or get a grown up to do the cutting for you… x
@Lonewolf__666 lmao, keep the comments nice tho Cully 😉 saves us all getting in trouble, lol. Thanks for your continued support and awesome comments 😆HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
