    I just did this on my 15 L83 Silverado. Same as you I replaced all 4 injectors and the rail. Bent the rail and a good injector coming out. Friend works at the local dealer and he told me others have broken the injectors off in the head. My advise although GM doesn't call for it is to use a slight film of silicone grease on the seals as the injectors will go into the head easier. My first attempt pushed a seal off #8, and it blew off after a couple days. Used the grease 2nd time and so far so good.

      What was the symptom of the pushed seal? I replaced my injectors the other day and now I have a strong fuel smell somewhere, code p0174 and a cylinder 6 misfire. I replaced the fuel lines and torqued to spec. And turned the key to the one position to pressurize the system but saw no leaks before I installed the intake manifold. I’m assuming either the injector itself is leaking or maybe one of the seals failed, but I can’t see how the fuel would be leaking upwards to cause the smell

    • @WorkingWithWimberley
      @WorkingWithWimberley  Рік тому

      @@Nick-pk1cj It’s a high pressure fuel line system so if one of the seals is damaged or not seated properly, fuel would leak out from that seal.

      These LT engines have 2 fuel pumps, one is a low pressure pump ( electric on with acc power) and one high pressure pump ( fuel lobe on cam shaft driven) unfortunately if you never cranked the engine over, you would not have had high enough pressure to spot a leak with the intake off. I would do a leak down check on cylinder 6 and listen for an air leak under the intake manifold

    Those injectors have a high failure rate, changing all four was the way to go or you will be back on the same fuel rail soon. To help get the rail out, soak the injectors in penetrating oil where they go into the heads before you start trying to remove it and keep soaking it as you work it back and forth like you were doing. It also helps if the engine is warm when you are working on it. The injectors might break but you could save the rail. Those high-pressure fuel lines are one time use (supposedly, according to GM) so if you want to reuse them, you have to tighten them to uncomfortable levels sometimes to avoid leaks. Nice work, nice truck!

    • @WorkingWithWimberley
      @WorkingWithWimberley  2 роки тому

      Thanks Scott! I ultimately decided it was well worth the money to replace the rail and all four injectors. I went with all AC Delco factory parts. I did soak the injectors in WD, but the engine wasn't warm. I had it apart to see exactly what I needed before I ordered the parts, so it sat for a while. And I did buy new lines. I think it's ridiculous that they are "one time use." We tightened them until they were flexing (the second time). Still being careful not to break them. I love the Escalade and usually trade them in to get a newer one after 3 or 4 years, but this one has so many new parts on it, I'll probably keep it. I'm almost embarrassed to admit how many new parts are on it!

      After 50k miles 90% percent fuel injectors are just dirty . Once you clean them out by connecting to 12 volt battery to open them , hold them tight because some of them are still pressurized with fuel , it will open up and spray it out clean . Dry them off and put new seals and just Like new .

    Great vid. Question, did the misfiring have any other symptoms? I have a ‘16 escalade premium with same codes only mine were for cylinder 4. I get some blue smoke (light not thick) coming from exhaust on start up and while idling. This is telling me oil is burning somewhere but I smell more fuel than anything. No leaks so guessing its burning inside the combustion chamber? Any thoughts? Replaced coils, wires and plugs. Even threw in a new PCV valve for good measure. Gonna work on the faulty injector rail tonight.

      Thanks. All I had was the flashing check engine light and a bad misfire. I didn’t notice anything burning in the exhaust. Also, I parked the Escalade immediately.
