It was early and I didn't even realize they had arrived yet from out of town but out of nowhere my cousin comes in my room and says, 'I want to play you something'. Years later, my cousin died from exposure in a snowstorm but I will always remember him introducing me to Guns n Roses at that Christmas party.

Fun fact, I was a bartender at the hottest night club in St. Louis back in the day. I saw these four "dirt balls" walking in. They in no way fit the dress code. I asked the doormen, "Who let them in?" The said "they're some new band."
During the Bengals Super Bowl season of '88, they adopted this as their theme, and it has stuck ever since. Hard not to get pumped for football when you hear those opening notes.
@@Ranadkins Actually, I think Axl stole those moves from 'Diamond' David Lee Roth, who stole them from Jim 'Dandy' Mangrum, who very well may have stolen them from Davy. But Axl sure ain't the original.
Guns and Skid Row were my first concert ever at 14 years old. I’ll admit I was to young for that kind of partying, saw things I probably shouldn’t have at that age. 😳 It was at the height of their popularity and they were at their best. Awesome concert 🤘🏽
Back in my early days of high school, me and my friends were into this new band called, 'Guns N Roses'. We were completely stoked and loved this band. Then I remember not too long after that, even the jocks and preppies were loving them. Such a great hard rockin' band. I'm glad I was there during that early era.
It’s Saturday night and we have clips from Guns N’ Roses and Motley Crue. Headbangers Ball rises again!! This song was an important turning point for music in the late 80’s. Hair metal ruled at the time- Motley Crue, Poison, etc. Then GnR came along with a much harder sound, much more guitar-driven, that really put a bite into music that hair metal lacked. No one’s ever gonna put Mick Mars and….whoever….from Poison in the same league as slash. Appetite for Destruction lit a fire under the music scene back then.
Absolute true story: Didn’t know him at the time (he was the bf of gf of my then gf), but I drove Axel to the band’s first gig at the legendary Troubadour in West Hollywood back in June 1985. Imagine my surprise when they opened with this banger! That opening riff, the full power of GNR!! What a show!!🔥🤣
This was my very first concert back in 88 when they were opening for Aerosmith!! Talk about an amazing first concert to attend!! I was all smiles watching you guys tonight!! Great song choices all the way around!! Thank You for making my night!!
The lead in on this song is one of the most masterful pieces of rock music ever... EVER!! It sounds like a descent into madness. Previous to arriving in LA Axl Rose was a small town Indiana boy. The Glam metal scene of southern California in the Early 1980's would have CERTAINLY seemed to be arriving on another planet. AMAZING!!
This was their first hit & none of us had heard anything like it. They ruled from this hit until they broke up. So many legendary hits, mind blowing to see live (actually sound better than the recordings, the power in Axle’s voice live is hypnotic). Paradise City is another mind blower, especially knowing that he gets through it live without a break for oxygen.
I have such a vivid memory of hearing Appetite for Destruction for the first time at age 14 in my cousin’s bedroom. I fell in love with the genre.❤️ Now, at age 48, you’ll still find me rocking out to it in my car or while cleaning house.🤘🎸
The diversity of Axl’s singing is pretty crazy with 6 octaves. Most don’t realize how good Axl’s voice is, ow was. Very few have an octave range of six or higher. Incredible. This is based on studio recordings I believe. See article link below. Also how good their writing was, so much depth. I have a lot of respect for this group. Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose has demonstrated the greatest vocal range in studio. Mariah Carey comes in second, followed by Prince, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Christina Aguilera and David Bowie. Which singer has the greatest recorded vocal range of all time? | Newstalk
I was either 15 or 16 when this album dropped. My brother’s girlfriend and I wanted a summer job so we asked my dad if he could hire us for something. He hired the two of us to sit in the attic space of an Industrial building sorting kwik loks into sample bags to give to potential buyers. It was hot up there and after a day of boredom we grabbed a boom box. I told her I had just bought the Guns n Roses tape. We spent that summer memorizing every word in Appetite For Destruction. Every song on that album transports me back to those two teen girls in their cut off Levi’s, oversized t shirts and Keds 🤣 Yowzer!
When this came out, my exSO was in the Army in Korea, and asked me to buy him the cassette, as he and his buddies had all heard this song but couldn't get the whole album for some reason. Brings back a lot of memories! Good musical times.
So happy you loved this song. This was the very 1st song I ever heard from GNR and I remember I was watching the video on MUCH MUSIC in Canada 🇨🇦 and at that time it was a brand new video and no one new who they were yet. The single wasn't a hit and they released a 2nd single SWEET CHILD O MINE, which of course was a massive hit here. So of course they re-released WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE after and it obviously became a huge hit too. They never looked back after that. Keep smiling 🤘 🙂
This was the first single off of their debut album Appetite For Destruction and they exploded in popularity from the very beginning. Every song on the album is a hit.
Love Guns n Roses, it's my childhood and growing up with an older brother. I was listening to Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, and NKOTB. This was strange to me back then but I liked it anyway. Now being an "adult", I get it. Lol. Freaking great rock n roll!
sounds like me. All of my school friends were listening to Gibson, NKOTB etc, I'd come home and listen to GNR and AC/DC with my older brother. We were both obsessed with Axl haha
From a Great Cincinnatian who thinks you guys rock.......WHO DEY! The song is amazing and the team is amazing. Keep doing great reactions and come to town so we can Who Dey at the next game.
I always admired how the band uniquely - yet cohesively - connected upbeat music with depressing lyrics. I think this is one of their less optimistic songs. Even some of their sadder ones are more hopeful in their message. Is there a single GnR song though that does have a happy text? Oh yeah! Sweet Child of Mine is the only serene lyrics, also a must for a playlist.
This one is about when he took the bus to LA for the first time. Some guy said that to him. Welcome to the jungle, you're gonna die. Something like That
GnR was such a great band and had such a good sound. I also liked the "Lies" album but dang it, some of those lyrics were "problematic" even back then. They were going for shock value and they got it.
I'm a 90s baby so I definitely wasn't alive for them but I remember finding out about GnR on one of those behind the music/I love the 80s things on VH1 (#millenniallife) and I was obsessed. I've read all of the members books and I am obsessed with them. They're gritty, grimy, and were the last of their kind of rockstars for sure. Talk about a culture shift.
Perfect reaction to a banging classic! Check out Guns N' Roses "You Could Be Mine" from the Terminator 2: Judgement Day film soundtrack. (And love your t-shirt Amber!) Rock on guys!🎶😎
This is the first song (and single) from their debut album “Appetite for Destruction”, one of the strongest debut albums by any rock band, ever. Seriously every trac is a banger. The Bengals adopted this song as their home field “theme music” back in 1988 about a year after the song was released, and have used it ever since, primarily just before kickoff.
This whole album is one of those rare albums that is all fire, no filler. Start with Jungle, finish with Rocket Queen, repeat, lol! Saw them open for Motley Crue, watched Axl bust his ass, lol!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED You Jay and Amber's Reaction!!! It reminded Me of seeing and hearing it for the FIRST TIME in 1987 on Friday Night Videos!!! 😊 ...Bob P, Mid Coast, Maine! 😊😊
You two are priceless! Loved your reaction to all 3 of todays vids. So happy to see Amber be open to listening to rock and liking it. Jay, what can i say? Your face exudes "happy " when you react to these songs. Now i have the biggest smile on my face 😁 Fun fact : GNR wrote this song togeather in a little over 2 hours.
They've done great music! My mom would call him "Mr Swivel hips" after seeing videos of him. She tolerated some of the music I listened to. Now every time I hear them, I laugh and think of her calling him that since her passing in June 2017. They were banned from St Louis after causing a riot back in 1991. I wasn't living in the area then, but they did come back in 2017.
I love your reactions to this song!!!! Amber, you are spot ON about both Axl and the Slash silhouette. This album does not have a bad song. It's a masterpiece. GNR was so groundbreaking at the time. We were in AWE.
This whole album is fantastic from start to finish, but I must say, it's not for the kids. I saw them live at RFK Stadium with Metallica back in..... 1992, I think it was. Still have my ticket stub from that. Amazing show!
I saw that tour in San Francisco. It was the first show James played guitar after the pyro accident in Canada. GnR took nearly 2 hours to come out after Metallica. People started getting mad and tore up the infield. I saw chunks of grass flying everywhere.
Oh snap! I was at that RFK stadium and I was show too!!! I was on the field and I vividly remember the fights between the two different Metallica and Guns N' Rose's fan bases bc fun fact, Axl Rose was a still in NYC when Metallica ended their set. Do you remember what ended the fighting??? GREAT show though!!!
That was the Use Your Illusions Tour. Saw the first two dates at Madison Square Garden, and then maybe 9 months later when the came back to the area, caught the show again. The first show, when Slash gets up on top of the Marshall Stack & starts his solo, my buddy keeps going ‘you recognize that lick’, I’m like ‘ yeah, but I can’t place it’ then it kicks in & hits me at the same time THE GODFATHER! I was blown away, this dude is playing the Theme from the movie The Godfather on the guitar , and KILLING IT!!! Phenomenal guitarist. His hands look like they’re as big as snow shovels! He can cover about 8 frets with one hand. Oh, and earlier someone in the comments mentions Duff McKagen being the key to the band… if you can ever get to listen to anything he plays on really good headphones, or maybe even an iso of his bass lines, they’re just as insane as any Slash solo. Duff is THAT GOOD!
Jay, fun fact for you... The "older" Axel you've reacted to before was only a couple years younger. Welcome to the Jungle was in 1987, while Knocking On Heaven's Door was in 1990.
Jay,for the rest of your life everytime you hear these opening riffs you will immediately transport back to that game. It's called " Relational Memory",it starts in the hippocampus in your brain. It's been said it also stores memories of smells & tastes.
Great reaction! There is so much going on with this song and it is put together perfectly all surrounding the backbone which is the sublime bass guitar. Quite literally one of the best bass guitars in any song!
It’s great watching you two having so much fun! This was GNR’s initial early stuff before their attempts to match Motley Crue’s hedonistic lifestyle burned out so much of their brain cells that they couldn’t write new material and had to resort to covers mainly. 😂 It’s a banger of a song, no doubt.
As told by Steve Adler, the band got off the bus in LA and a homeless guy on drugs looked at them and said “Do you know where you are? You’re in the jungle baby! You’re gonna die!” And Axl being the genius he is, turned that one moment into a whole song.
I was more into rap at the time.buy felt rock too. A good friend of mine knew that I was sceptical and handed me the tape and said ,"Listen to this all the way through twice." I was like yeah sure whatever. I listened to it once turned my car to airport Blvd and Peaches Music. I bought two copies
This was the one that blew them up. The album had been out for about a year and MTV wouldn't play them. David Geffen called in a favor and got them played at 5:00 slot in the morning. It immediately became so requested that it got heavy rotation and then Appetite for Destruction went to #1 also. I think it is the biggest selling debut album still. As others have said on here, not a bad song on the album.
I can relate to this tune a great deal. My band played the Strip '89 - 92, playing the Whiskey and the Roxy. Sunset is a really different place after dark on the weekends especially. Members of bands going up and down the strip to hand out flyers for our upcoming shows. If you're a people watcher and a rocker, the costumes you'd have seen then would have blown your minds. For me, standing on the same stages that my idols and contemporaries that I admired was awesome. I got to play on the same stage Eddie Van Halen and Slash played. I stood on the same wood that bands like the Doors performed on. As to this song especially, L.A. can seem like a jungle, if you mean the concrete jungle.
Two friends and I went on a camping trip and one of them had just bought this album. We had 3 cases of beer, 1/2 oz of good weed, and hot dogs/buns. This tape just got flipped over and over all night. We probably made neighboring campers hate us but nobody called the cops/rangers.

LOVE the energy & vibe of this amazing reaction channel Y’all totally ROCK!!! Our beloved Bengals are gonna upset those Titans Sat. 31-24 is my fearless prediction!
I’m so sad that Amber missed out on the “November Rain” reaction. If she hasn’t heard it, please play it for her. Or better yet, you can react to it again with her present! 😛 Amber, I feel you on the Axl thing-he is mesmerizing.

This is the first song that kicked it all off for Gun's N' Roses. Once it was released, it took everyone by storm! There was no looking back. What a great time that was

Fun fact, I was a bartender at the hottest night club in St. Louis back in the day. I saw these four "dirt balls" walking in. They in no way fit the dress code. I asked the doormen, "Who let them in?" The said "they're some new band."
Was that before or after the riot in 1991
@@sjgavenger37 before .. 1989ish
During the Bengals Super Bowl season of '88, they adopted this as their theme, and it has stuck ever since. Hard not to get pumped for football when you hear those opening notes.
The chemistry that these guys had is incomparable. Just imagine what could have been…
The way Axl moves on stage is almost like a cat chasing a laser dot he's just everywhere and he does it all while singing without messing up
Was thinking more like a snake. He even mentions " my serpentine" as in snake like.
Stole Davey Jones from the Monkees dance moves. Lol
@@Ranadkins Definitely! But Axl does it better than Davey Jones ever did.
@@MsCatstaff I’ll just have to respectfully disagree. 👍
@@Ranadkins Actually, I think Axl stole those moves from 'Diamond' David Lee Roth, who stole them from Jim 'Dandy' Mangrum, who very well may have stolen them from Davy. But Axl sure ain't the original.
This entire album is FIRE!
Probably just the most important band in 80s Hair Bands and just bands in general!
Their best album
I miss Headbangers Ball.
Headbangers Ball Saturdays would be a great feature for this channel
Wow. I haven’t thought about Headbangers Ball in so long. Watched it religiously.
HEADBANGERS BALL REACTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!
Wait, are we all showing our age here?
@@Watching4Fun_ Haha! So true. I love music as much as I did 40 years ago.
What a show!!🔥🤣
Cool story 😎
You lucky SOB!!!!
This song was how the world was largely introduced to GnR. This was the first music video I recall seeing of them on MTV back in the summer of 1987.
The song was released in late 1987 and the Bengals started using it during their 1988 season--which ended with their second Super Bowl appearance.
I have such a vivid memory of hearing Appetite for Destruction for the first time at age 14 in my cousin’s bedroom. I fell in love with the genre.❤️ Now, at age 48, you’ll still find me rocking out to it in my car or while cleaning house.🤘🎸
I first introduced to this song from MTV back in the day! And I gotta tell ya 💔 this is a Headbanger classic of all time! 🖤🎶🎶🎶🎶🖤
One of the best debut albums ever.
When this came out GnR became pretty much the biggest band in the planet. You could not escape it. Grandmas were singing welcome to the jungle.
Grandmas are still singing it. Lol
Love seeing you appreciate the music I've listened to all my life.
Congrats! The Bengals just won! Love this song. Keep doing what you do. You guys are great.
omg!! 1 of my all time fave albums!! i've loved this album since 1988!
We sang our hearts out to this driving to the jersey shore back when the album first came out. We wore that cassette out 😂 Love watching you guys!!
WHO DEY!
Los guns son verdaderos clásicos del rock.... saludos desde Sudamérica-chile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember when ‘Appetite For Destruction’ came out and it changed everything. For some reason I always go back to ‘Rocket Queen’
Rocket Queen is the most interesting composition on the album imo
Who Dey! Yes, this is our song. And the Bengals are going all the way! This so rocks our stadium.
Appetite for Destruction broke the debut album sales that was previously held by Boston. Similarly, both featured every song a hit.
I have no idea how you've never heard this before, but I'm damn glad you finally did.
Bet that was a great show.
@@matthewdrake4385 oh it was, lol! That was the Girls Girls Girls tour, so Tommy had the revolving drum kit.
Saw that line up in Omaha first concert I was 15 and front row.
The bit where Axl hits that note before the guitar solo is sublime
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED You Jay and Amber's Reaction!!! It reminded Me of seeing and hearing it for the FIRST TIME in 1987 on Friday Night Videos!!! 😊
...Bob P, Mid Coast, Maine! 😊😊
You CAN go wrong with Guns N Roses... it just takes a few more years.
Like all great bands, unless if they broke up in their primes.
This song is just all you need to know about hard rock. Vocals, guitar, sound. Honestly what an iconic song.
HOW TO SUMMON AN ENTIRE GENERATION IS RIGHT HERE
I love your reactions to this song!!!!
I saw that same tour in Denver, except Axl only played half a song and got booed off stage. 😜
Good call about it not being for kids (even though many of us were kids when GnR came out). In particular "Rocket Queen" is definitely not for kids.
That was the Use Your Illusions Tour. Saw the first two dates at Madison Square Garden, and then maybe 9 months later when the came back to the area, caught the show again. The first show, when Slash gets up on top of the Marshall Stack & starts his solo,
my buddy keeps going ‘you recognize that lick’, I’m like ‘ yeah, but I can’t place it’ then it kicks in & hits me at the same time THE GODFATHER!
Those were hard years on him, Jim Beam will age you.
It’s a banger of a song, no doubt.
As told by Steve Adler, the band got off the bus in LA and a homeless guy on drugs looked at them and said “Do you know where you are? You’re in the jungle baby! You’re gonna die!” And Axl being the genius he is, turned that one moment into a whole song.
Close. It was actually in New York, not LA
@@simrey8570 i mean what's the difference 😂
Mars and Venus right here. Amber is going orgasmic watching Axel's moves and Jay is like "Man I wish I was at the game!" 🤣🤣
I got that too😂😂
I was more into rap at the time.buy felt rock too.
This whole album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥! I had just graduated high school when it dropped. Game changer!!!
Axl has a near 8 octave vocal range! That's how he hits those crazy notes!
I’m not a huge GnR fan but this song is an absolute Rock CLASSIC.
Not my favorite band but love the song. Great licks and great tone.
Love Jay’s reaction! I am a huge fan! Love my rock!
Just a 62 yr old classic/hard rockin’/Metal fan and a member of WHO DEY nation for 41 yrs since the Bengals 1st playoff appearance in 1970 when I was 11 yrs old! LOVE the energy & vibe of this amazing reaction channel Y’all totally ROCK!!! Our beloved Bengals are gonna upset those Titans Sat. 31-24 is my fearless prediction!
They were the dirty ensing of the 80s. Took us fast into the 90s with mega hits. Love the amazing band!
"Embrace Empathy" - I love that shirt!!
I’m so sad that Amber missed out on the “November Rain” reaction. If she hasn’t heard it, please play it for her. Or better yet, you can react to it again with her present! 😛 Amber, I feel you on the Axl thing-he is mesmerizing.
AXL was so HOT back in the Day....the way he MOVED!!! Now....NOT!!! Sad.....but who still is? Really...I am asking......
@@susanpolice8465 I personally think Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden looks better now than he did as a bleach-blond back in the early 80s... and his fellow guitarist Janick Gers still has one of the finest backsides in metal. All in one's personal taste, I guess.
I can see you guys really enjoyed this song. You should also check out Patience by Guns N Roses, I guarantee you will like it!
This is the first song that kicked it all off for Gun's N' Roses. Once it was released, it took everyone by storm! There was no looking back. What a great time that was
I saw guns n roses open up for Iron Maiden in 1987 I was a teenager back then I will never forget that 👍
I'm thinking you guys NEED to give a listen to "Smells Like Teen Spirit."
Just like this song ushered in a new direction for the "metal" genre, SLTS by Nirvana changed the face of music YET AGAIN.
AIC did it better
