  • Yet another beautiful sculpt from the PNSO company. This one is truly a sight to behold, and to have in hand is just amazing. It is so reminiscent of what Sideshow used to produce in their Dinosauria line. Could THIS be replacement? Watch to find out!

    I've recently discovered your videos and I love them. Very informed and well spoken with a good rhythm. I'm very appreciative as I have recently reignited my childhood love for Dinosaurs and while I have found some excellent books to chew through I have been VERY disappointed with most reasonably priced Dinosaur figures as well as some expensive ones. Your videos have introduced me to PNSO and I now buy their figures almost exclusively. I think they are unsurpassed with regard to scientific accuracy, quality, ascetic attraction and price. I also love what the company is trying to achieve. I wish the AMNH would carry their products in their gift shop. I am currently debating whether I can craft my own bases for figures such as this. I may try. I wish PNSO would craft and sell separate bases and/or environment pieces with which to display these marvelous models. Thank you again for making these videos. PS: I also love the Mcfarlane Dragons and Monster Hunter figures though I find the latter nigh impossible to find outside of the small blind box versions.

      Thanks for writing Erik. Your comment made my day!
      About two years ago, I also started to learn more seriously about dinosaurs on my own, even though I have been collecting on and off. It's been a really enjoyable and enlightening journey, and one of the things I hope to do with my videos is to not just do reviews per se, but also share knoweldge about the dinosaurs the models are based on. I believe that would give people an added perpective on their models so they can enjoy it more, and also for people just like yourself, stimulate an interest to learn more deeply about them, and some of the science itself!
      Since we were kids, there have been so many incredible advancements of knowledge, which is very quickly incorporated into increasingly scientifically accurate models. In addition, if you were so inclined, so many papers are available freely (and legally!) online too. So this is truly a wonderful time to be interested in dinosaurs in a serious way.
      As fof PNSO, they have been best balance in terms of sculpt, scientific accuracy, and most of all, paint application, which sets them apart from other mass produced figures. I'm actually not a completist, but it certainly feels like it when it comes to PNSOs, because what they've offered so far simply tick all the boxes for me, literally every time. My wallet can't say it's equally pleased.
      As for bases, I do believe there was a company that offered up bases designed to go with PNSO models. They are a third party, unofficial product, but IIRC the people who were talking about it online seem pleased with it. I'll write in again if I recall what shop it was.
      Have a great day! Coincidentally, I just put up a Monster Hunter Figure Builder review!

      @@DinosDragons I did not know about 3rd party bases. That would be great! I don't have the heart to watch the Monster Hunter reviews unless there's a link given to where you can actually obtain the figure. The vast majority of these figures are superb in myriad ways and I adore them. If you have any tips about where to acquire them please share. They are so good....

    Hello, Hope you are doing well.
    Love this offering from PNSO.
    The details and paint application is quite good.
    A standout in my collection for sure.
    With some imagination and artificial plants
    I have hidden that awful yet functional stand.
    Really dig your reviews.

      Thank you! If you have this, you can see that the colour is even better than in the video in real life! This is really one of those special models that helps to replace the loss of the Sideshow Dinosauria line in terms of size, sculpt, and to a lesser degree, paint. I still hope that one day PNSO will give us large specials like this again.
      I'm happy you managed to get rid of that awful stand. Against the beauty of this model, it's like a really gaping tear in a beautiful painting!

    Excellent and detailed review! Nick is an excellent dino! The stand is a little bit of a lost opportunity...

      Thank you Richard! Yes the dino is beautiful and therefore I was flabbergasted as to how the decision for the stand and base were made. I would imagine it wouldn't be too expensive to do up a simple stand, and perhaps even a different colour other than what it is, would make the contrast less stark. But I just focus on the dino itself and the mind just selectively blurs out the stand 😀

      @@DinosDragons It certainly does! A very satisfying depiction. (The head even looked a little T-Rex-ish! You mentioned that, in a way, by saying maybe the teeth were a bit too long.) Ceratosaurus certainly looks different from when I was a kid. I was born in 1960, and my first encounter came with Ray Harryhausen's rhino-horned version in the 1956 sequence from "Animal World." I was rather disgruntled when more accurate depictions started showing, but I've had time to adjust. :)

      @@seanledden4397 I know what you mean! I grew up on completely scaly reptiles, and while it was easier to accept smaller feathered dinosaurs like Velociraptor (after all we already know about Archaeopteryx when we were kids), it was a real rebellion against feathered T Rex. And _just_ when I'd gotten used to that possibility, and started to like my CollectA and Wild Safari feathered T-rexes... well we know what happened 🤣

      @@DinosDragons T-Rex? Feathers? OMG! You just opened up a big can of worms! - I remember seeing the T-Rex in Jurassic Park, on the big screen, when it came out. I was temporarily in heaven. (I almost cried when the Brachiosaurus came into view earlier.) That's still my idea of a T-Rex. Forgetting the whole vocal chord thing, feathers on a Rex was hard to swallow. Now it's not so certain, and maybe I am a reactionary, but I'm sleeping better at night. :)

      @@DinosDragons But I should also mention, I was very hot for birds to be classified as dinosaurs waaaay back in the early 90's. There were some bird specialists who fought a long rearguard battle against this, and I got really frustrated at them, because they had a big impact for about 10 or so years.

      Exactly my feeling! We need one to go with the 1:35s!

  • @WesleySmit
    @WesleySmit 2 роки тому

    Would you say this still holds up compared to PNSO's later figures? Or has the quality increased so much that these older figures look bad? Wondering the same about PNSO's Giganotosaurus

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 роки тому +1

      Actually, I would say that detail wise, this holds up very well. The reason is I believe the one major innovation PNSO has managed is the amount of finely sculpted detail they can create at even 1:35, which previously were less than ideal as they were far too big for that scale. However with the Ceratosaurus, which is a much bigger scale, it is a lot easier to sculpt these scales at a more realistic size. Skin creases I would say are comparable. So too are the keratinous structures. The colour is actually more brilliant than you see in this video.
      There is a bit of shrink-wrapping in the skull, and you may not like the seam lines. However at this scale one thing that surely beats any 1:35 are how well-painted the teeth are. The 1:35, even the newer PNSOs, often have paint overruns in the teeth. Also, I feel in general PNSO tails tend to be on the lean side, while you get the kind of thickness you'd expect from the caudofemoralis on the tail of this Ceratosaurus.
      Overall, if you can get him for a reasonable price, he makes a very impressive showpiece!

      You got a fantastic Ceratosaurus to be sure! The Sideshows really were the best and I don't see how I'll ever sell any of them. Seems like many collectors have the same idea. You don't find them often coming on the secondary market, even at exorbitant prices.
