🌟 Hey everyone! I appreciate all the love and support you've shown me over the years 🥰 Many of you have asked how you can help with my dream of having a small farm/ranch with the goal of helping animals in need. I'm excited to share that I've set up a GoFundMe to help make my dream a reality hopefully a wee bit sooner. If you'd like to contribute, please check out the link below-every little bit helps! Thank you for being part of this journey! 🙏❤ gofund.me/70c815cb
As kids we loved the line "Stick your tongue down the back of his trousers" & "Thar's far to crawly bum lick" the flashing images are all through season 2 some get slower so you can see them better others are really fast. enjoy. "Open up it's the pigs.... Open up it's the Pigs!" LMAO
The very first comic relief song was by the young ones. Singing Living Doll with Cliff Richard. Nigel Planer as Neil also released a single, Hole In My Shoe.
As many have said already, the band is a get together of famous musicians. They're covering Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues", which has one of the most iconic and copied videos ever.
But somehow the Dylan tribute gets upstaged by Alexei Sayle - oh, so that's why for decades I've sometimes used, as an expletive, "Mrs Gandhi yuck-yuck"
There are a number of flash frames through out the series. It was supposed to lead to a joke where they took the piss out of the head of comedy at the BBC but they weren’t allowed to do it
Your “what did I just see?” moment was one of the subliminal frames that was put into the second series. Bambi The End caption from Carry on Cowboy Cash A skier in yellow Nasty A Pottery Wheel then a dripping tap Time A gurning man Sick A bird in flight then a leaping Frog There was meant too be one more, but they were told to stop.
The final one was supposed to be a frame from another Western followed by a message from the video tape editor Ed Wooden that read "I Never Wanted To Put All These Flash-Frames In In The First Place" signed Ed Wooden VT Editor "Shut Up And Do As You're Told Farty Breath"
I remember Chris Morris putting flash frames into Brass Eye, and when he was told to stop he inserted one last frame, which said "Michael Grade is a *$&@"🤣. Think he got fired from the BBC for that! Love the name, btw, great reference. Dawn, your TV reactions are great, you need to react to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy TV series!!!!
It has probably been mentioned, but Rick and Vivian ( Rick and Ade ) did a series called Bottom -- which is a spiritual successor to the Young ones. Their characters have lots in common with the ones they play here and the toilet humour is another step up. Well worth a watch after these --- HAVE FUN.
If you want to see Rick, the people's poet, in action before the Young Ones, check out Rik Mayall - Poetry. From what I've heard, this was filmed during an actual poetry evening instead of a comedy evening.
The 3 of the cast that you like the most, Rik(Mayall), Vyv(Adrian Edmondson), Neil(Nigel Planer), go not to film a series call "Filthy, Rich & Catflap" after the Young Ones. Its worth watching before moving onto the Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson classic that is "Bottom" Before and during the Young Ones, Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson had a stage show called "The Dangerous Brothers" that is also worthing watching if you find them. Rik Mayall also worked with a writing partnership called "Marks & Gran" with them he made 2 great characters. One in "The New Statesman" was called "Alan Beresford B'stard" - Very much a piss take of Thatchers Britain. The other show was called "Believe Nothing" and was called "Quadruple Professor Adonis Cnut" these are 2 fantastic characters that allow Rik to do what he does best.
Rik also had a character called Kevin Turvey. He first appeared on TV in 1981 on a now nearly forgotten show called 'A Kick Up The 80s'. He was rather popular
The cool song Warlock and his friends were listening to was 'Electrick Gypsies' by Steve Hillage. It took me YEARS to find this out and I became a huge Steve Hillage fan when someone finally told me and I got to hear his stuff. His album L from 1976 is well worth a listen.
It wasn't a group it was different people singing. Jools Holland, Stuart Copeland from The Police. Roland Rivron who was in a comedy act called Raw Sex and others who I can't remember at the top of my head.
After this, move on to Bottom, Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson's 90s comedy. Then Bottom Live. Then their movie, Guest House Paradiso. The band was Ken Bishop's Nice Twelve, a musical conglomerate which featured Jools Holland (then of Squeeze but now a TV presenter) and Stewart Copeland (drummer with The Police) amongst others.
The Director put in Flash Frames in each episode. This is from BBC's Ski Sunday broadcast on 16th January 1983. The Sunday Times mentioned them (to look out for them) once & political satire sketch show Spitting Image managed one of the fastest turn arounds on British TV by that night displaying a Flash Frame with the following: "Did you know, flash-frames were outlawed because advertising firms used them to make subliminal suggestions, like hypnosis, you know, so people would go out and buy their products? As if that could possibly work. SCRIPTWRITERS ARE INCREDIBLY GOOD IN BED. YOU FIND THEM IRRESISTIBLE. YOU MUST GO OUT AND SLEEP WITH ONE NOW.”
I love this episode too, and glad you kept in some of the side scene with the two beheaded ghosts. 😀 I still love the patient "No, that's a fishbowl. Put it down." 😀 That's three headless people in two episodes for the second season, with Vyv's losing his head on the train in Bambi. 😀 The next episode should be Nasty, if I remember correctly, and I love it too. Used to be the end of October episode some friends of mine and I would watch every year. Yeah, Mike was a real actor, not a comic like the other three, so he gets made out to be the straight man in the sketch, though he does get some good lines along the way. 🙂Looking forward to the Nasty!
It is a shame they didn't make more. But Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson went on to make Bottom, a magnificently stupid sitcom about two idiots sharing a flat. I think you'll enjoy it.
Yes you can set your farts on fire. I remember back in the early 90s, we were at a house party and this one guy tried it and boy did he fill it lol, it was like a mini flame thrower
Oh my goodness Dawnmarie You mentioned once a long time ago that you didn’t like your teeth then I start looking at them I thought my goodness I love your teeth and your whole face and your laugh and everything about you and so does every other person that watches your reaction….
Thank you for reminding me that this is what commedy once was. As said in previous comment, I prefer to enjoy with a companion. Shall I update you regarding how my wolflike roommate responds to the spontaneous combustion of methane? You can probably guess.
I have nothing to add here, so I'll just mention that there was an officially licensed Young Ones video game. The company folded before players discovered there was no way to solve the game.
Thanks once again, sunshine. For a sample of Rik's sheer theatrical virtuosity, try 'Grim Tales'. It's right here on YT and classified for general audiences. There'll never be anyone quite like him. Are you aware of his tragic fate? Another lost too early ...
Dawn, Nigel Planer (Neil) was in a movie with some of Monty Python & other famous faces in the pirate comedy, "Yellowbeard". Check it out for some silly fun.
Both The Young Ones & Bottom sitcoms are the most hilarious programs that Rik Mayall has acted in, Rik Mayall also played the character of a tramp, in a film called ‘Dirty Old Town’, that was meant to be set in London, but was filmed in the backstreets of Greater Manchester’s City Centre in the UK, ua-cam.com/video/XhGxYGrGa-w/v-deo.html 🇬🇧😎👍🏼
Beginning to think someone has a wee crush on Rick? Its good someones reacting to the Young Ones, Id like to see how kids react to it though. It was a massive hit with school kids when it first aired. Strange thing about the series is they probably died about 4 times during it. I found the halloween one the best which has an actual Python in it. Filthy Riich and Catflap wasnt as funny however some of their Comic Strip Presents were amazing. Mr Jolly Lives next door anyone? Its on More 4. As for other channel 4 stuff I'm surprised nobody has reacted to Spaced yet, Chris Morris stuff is also off the radar it seems. You quite possibly could set fire to your farts, if its the same as with livestock commonly, it being methane gas which is flammable then yes, but dont quote me on that in humans. Actually just did a quick search and yes especially if its hydrogen and methane (which it is as well as least one other gas) then most certainly yes its flammable, or they're flammable.

That's probably because all other characters were already semi-develloped by the others as a stage persona. Mike was supposed to be played by another comedian, but due to a miscommunication, he dropped out, so they had to bring in an actual actor to play the part.

I highly recommend watching the UA-cam video, young ones documentary on the making of the young ones. explains a lot. Also highly recommend (bottom) Rick mayalls next series. starring, Rick and Adrian Edmondson ( Vivian) funny as hell.
it is hard to believe that they didn't make more episodes of such a popular show hey? would be hard for them to keep coming up with crazy ideas though I suppose.
Rik Mayall said that was never going to happen, because Fawlty Towers only did 12 episodes and he maintained that if that show couldn't do any more than 12 then there was no way they would be arrogant enough to think that Young Ones could do more....
The role of Mike was originally meant to another comedian actor but declined after having some creative disputes. The kind of question only a woman would ask.
The Ace of Spades bit is the greatest 3 minutes of Uk TV ever. Great Song
...and last night I found my guitar on the fire. Boomshanka.

aye, i bought the single, i was about 9 yrs old, B side all the little flowers or something like that .
I still think Mike nailing his legs to the table is one of the funniest moments in the entire run of 'The Young Ones'
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Completely agree. I remember when I first saw this episode and Mike said that line I just burst out laughing.
Dawn Marie - still utterly charming and adorable

@@macdeluxe733 that's another cool track!
