Your timely post is right on. I will be taking the old girl out of the garage this morning, a 1965 Chevelle 4-door wagon 283 automatic to drop off unwanted junk to the dump. 😊

The worst Malibus were 1997 thru 2004. The best Chevelle Malibus were 1964 thru 1980.

originally the Malibu was a trim package on the Chevelle throughout the lineup and became its own model for the 1978 Model Year when the Chevelle was cancelled for declining sales and early Corporate Average Fuel Economy Standards in 1977 granted cars over all were heavier then than they are now that's not true there's supposed to be a new generation released for the 2025 model year it sold 130,000 units in the US last year as opposed to 115,000 in 2022 good for the #3 Position for best selling midsize Cars in the US for the year Behind the Toyota Camry 291,000 and The Honda Accord 198,000 Nissan Altima in 4th with 128,000 units sold and Kia K5 at #5 at 65,000 Chevrolet Bolt is #6 at 62,000 Hyundai Sonata at #7 at 45,000 Toyota Prius at #8 36,000 #9 Subaru Legacy 26,000 and #10 last year was the Hyundai Ioniq 6 13,000 the next international market that will likely lose the Toyota Camry in the near future is Australia for low sales

Good video. The Malibu (along with other GM intermediates of the mid- to late-60s) were such winners in so many ways. (I'll leave the appreciation of the later cars to others. 😉)

Excellent job . I was pleased at all the photos. I was pleased you went all the way up to the current run. I also liked the fact you mentioned the international versions and what made them different. I recall the Holden versions, and the Oldsmobile Cutlass version as well. I liked the details and effort placed into the video. I liked the fact you mentioned the El Camino and other variants as well. I liked when they updated it in 1982. I do thank you once again.

Back in 2010, I got a recent vintage Malibu from Hertz using a free $100 gift certif. Hertz gave me the previous year to compensate me for the horrible Nissan Altima Hybrid they gave me (brand new, oil leak, seized engine!). THe $100 covered an extended weekend of driving plus a tank of fuel. It was a long highway trip, the car drove fine, plenty of power, and got over 30 MPG. The interior was not bad at all either. I think I probably got an upscle version. I wonder now if it had the V6 or a 4. It sure drove as it had V6 power

Just wanted to tell you that in 68 and 69 for sure, possibly in 66 and 67 those i am not sure on, anyway you could get a 375 horsepower 396. It was little advertised but it was available.
I had a 69 Malibu that had a 307 in it until i swapped in a 454 out of a pick up into it. That car would move, could darn near pass everything out there but it sure couldnt pass a gas station. But man it was a fun car to drive.

@thehopelesscarguy I often wonder how many of those 375 horse cars were actually sold. Would love to see a stock 375 horse on the dyno and see what it really puts out. A channel out of Canada called Nick's Garage did that with as bone stock of a 426 hemi and it pushed about 500 horse stock out of it. Would actually love to see all the old classic high horse motors stock to see what they could do.

My first car was a 78 Malibu, 2 door, center console, 305 HO, with a 200 Metric, 10 bolt rear. Had 38 K on it in 88 when I bought it for 2k. Blood red interior, with a stupid headliner that kept falling down with gross crumbling material that I kept pinning up with tacks. LOL The motor blew racing an Iroc, and in went a 454, big block springs, a set of 50s on the front, from 14s to 15" wheels, a set of Micky Thompsons on the back, Gabriel Air shocks, American racing rims, then the trans blew from neutral dropping it for about 3 months everywhere I went. LOL In went a 350 turnbo with shift kit.. then the rear blew.. out with the 10 bolt and in went a 12 bolt rear, 373.. I was pulling 12 second quarter miles all day long. Wreck the car doing Dukes of Hazard moves.. and the frame finally broke it half. Went to frame right on Harford Rd and they fixed it, plated it and welded it. That car was a tank, and fast. Couldn't beat anything on back roads, but on a straight away.. I was blowing doors. 😅 I miss that car..
