My brother bought a 2 yr old '62 SS. A bit of an oddity: 300HP 327 with 3-on-the-tree. Story from the salesman was, that it had been owned by older gentleman. I don't know what the rear gearing was, but putting the peddle to the metal would slam you back in the seat.

In 1979 in my teens, I owned a 1974 Chevy Impala 2-door Custom Coupe that was a two-tone color like a light green with dark green metallic. It had an AM & FM Radio, 8 Track Tape player, power windows, vinyl interior seats, and plastic seat covers to protect the seats. What I always liked about these types of cars is the dashboard with the big numbers.

The glory days were the 1960s. I had a friend with a 1961 Chevy. Even today it seems like the most intelligent car ever built. All metal construction with clean open styling and a 283 cu. Like a roomy civilian Jeep. Rugged no nonsense perfection.

I'm an old dude and I have had several Impalas throughout my 'career'. Right now I own a '62 4 door from California that I'm in the process of 'restomodding', (currently swapping out the straight six/ PG for a 350/TH350. and NO IT'S NOT GONNA BE A LOWRIDER! I bought a '64 SS with a 409/4 speed when I was in high school for $25...heh heh, rusty but fast and reliable. Had a '67 2 door, a '63 2 door with a 327/Slushomatic and a '65 convertible 283, 3 on the tree...plus a few I'm sure I've forgotten. Been a Chevy guy my whole life and it will continue that way! Great video!

I grew up with Impalas, and things just didn't seem right when they went away.

When my parents met, my father drove a brown 1959 Impala sedan and my mother drove a white 1960 Impala coupe. The first car they bought as a married couple was a bluish grey 1965 Impala sedan.

I enjoyed this so much. Brings back memories of my 58 Impala 348, and 65 Impala SS 396. I am now driving a Mazda CX 5. I hope to see you next year. 🚗

The Impala sure had its ups and downs, but having owned a final generation LTZ I can say it ended with its best ever version. The difference in build quality, appearance, ride, handling, and interior between the early 2000s version and the 2014 - 2020 generation was night and day. Even Consumer Reports (with its bias against American manufacturers) rated it as the best and highly recommended large sedan until the Avalon was updated. Great subject and video, HCG. 👍👍👍

@@thehopelesscarguy Indeed. The only angle I thought could have used a little more styling was the view from directly behind. The taillights were kinda plain. Happy Holidays!

I was 9 in 1959, and I LOVED the Impala. I couldn't believe it when the 60s came out---to me they looked like Bizarro World versions of the 59.

There was , at one time, an Impala only available in Canada, I do believe, because I saw one, here in Florida, and I didn’t recognize the grill, which made me give it a second look. And Yes, Canadian plate on back.
    (( As always, great video.))

If you could just slow down and talk about the changes in styling in more detail. Otherwise, your video is awesome! Keep em coming! I like the 1960 Impalas more than any other. Beautiful to look at, i can imagine how people felt driving one.

I bought a few of those Impalas Brand New 2021 for under $20K. I should have researched the Impalas better as I made a fast buying decision. After seeing the Fully loaded LS in Black for a little over $27K I traded up.. Using in inflation calculator here in 2024 that would be like spending $48K which was insane money now I look back for what the car offered. But it was reliable and the most miles I put on a new car to date about 50K Then I traded for a 05 Impala LS with SPORT APPEARANCE package with full gauges and bigger wheels and tires.. In Black again. I bought this one used in 2010 for $7500 with 40K miles. Driven by a retired single man who was a lawyer who passed away. His daughter sold me the car for $5000 under book value… After I paid her she brought it up that I could sell the car and make $5000 I acted like I didn’t know about the value. I have the latest Model 2017 Impala LT I bought new for under $34K with the BIG Pano Roof in Red Tint Coat. It’s 2024 and I have only 27K on it. Still looks and drives brand new. No issues other than headlights need. To be upgraded badly to LED from Halogens. When I get around to it that is the only thing I would change. I see BIG Screens in New cars and I don’t think that Adds to the car. When the car is off the finger smudges look terrible. The 8 inch Screen in the Impala is textured and shows no prints. I clean it 2 times a year and it doesn’t need it. Flushed Radiator and Changed Tires, along with Oil Changes and Filters, cabin, Air, and Oil is all I have done to the car. battery and Brakes still excellent. Even the Remotes are still on the same battery and I use MyLink to AUTOSTART the car on cold mornings. I do use Android Auto and I am so happy this car has the feature. And the Car gets over 30 MPG HWY as much as 40mpg and 23 City. No complaints at $10 a week for gas. Cheap to run.

I see that the American design Impalas ended in 90's, then was a short period of the Japan design, and then it was of the European design. The next one is Chinese.

The Impala from 1958 to 1996 were honestly best times for me when it was originally an muscle car ' lowrider ' ect. GM sadly made the Impala way too practical from 2000 to 2020. That's GM's money grabbing apparently. The only Impala's of the 00s & 10s that I liked in my opinion were the Nascar version and the 06 to 09 Impala SS. Just my opinions.

I hated it when all the american cars started looking like big bath tubes. I myself am a square body fan. The last awesome Impala was 79. All throughout the 80s and 90s was when I lost interest in the impala. How come none of the diecast model companies will do a 1960 Impala. That year was one of the best.
