    One interesting thing not mentioned in the video. When you have a nav-target selected and you see the blinking square on your ABRIS - if you click DL INGRESS on your datalink panel, and then uncage the Skval - it willcenter the sight on that nav target.
    Very very useful indeed.
    One way of using this is if you are being fed coordinates (from a JTAC or other friendly unit, for example) - you can manually enter a nav target and just uncage the skval to settle your sights bang on the money

    • @Rlaxox
      @Rlaxox 4 роки тому

      Why would you press DL-Ingress when you already have the nav target selected?
      Just press uncage and it should do the same thing without DL-ingress

    Some scribbled notes while watching the video:
    - To my understanding the wind data is not changing during flight. I tested it by creating a mission with dynamic weather and after over an hour worth of flying to the same heading, both the wind direction (note that it shows where the wind is blowing TO, not FROM) & wind speed were the same as before.
    - The brightness knob does jack poop...
    - The benefit of a target point is that when in oper-mode your shkval will automatically face the target point when you uncage it: instant target designation on the fly without any hassle of manually tinkering where it's looking at. It cuts down exposure time and work-load Significantly.
    - You can also manually set target point coordinates, or place a target point in the editor. You can also add calibration points in the editor. You don't have to land for the calibration.
    Ka-50 is love, Ka-50 is life.

    Hi Guys, great video as usual. I have a switch on my mouse that I can press and temporarily disable the TrackIR, Cap (hint)!
    Just a small thing that eluded me regarding the Desired Track mode ... I had all sorts of problems trying to use Desired Track in autopilot. I could follow a route in Desired Heading mode no problem but Desired Track seemed to have a mind of it's own! It was only when I bound a switch to the option that I realised the problem. The switch in the Ka-50 is a three way switch ... Up is Desired Heading and down is Desired Track BUT it is a three way switch with a neutral position in the middle. If you click with the mouse just once on the switch you actually go from Desired Heading to the neautral position, or visa versa! Being a blind old git I hadn't noticed so it looked to me that I had changed the mode from one to the other. I spent hours trying to figure out why the ENR ROUTE light only came on while in Desired Heading mode!
    Okay, so it all seems obvious now, and many seasoned players will probably have a right laugh, but as a newbie I think it's nice to know these things so I hope it helps a fellow newbie. Remember, if you don't knowthe answer, it is never a silly question!
    Happy hunting people.

    Hello, how can I check the aiming position of the wingman "Shkval" in "abros", or the position where the wingman is collimating? This is described in the manual on page 33! But I didn't find it in the game! Indicating the position of wingman using data link as well as targeting line of
    sight vector from the “Shkval” targeting system

    Wow that cleared a lot up for me thanks. I was aware the features existed, but had never really bothered with them or tried to understand their purpose. I do have one question though, does the INS drift over distance / time flown, or is it more likely to drift in combat situations were you might be doing a lot of "Jinking" etc? In other words is INS drift similar to the Viggen?

    • @Stahlwollvieh
      @Stahlwollvieh 5 років тому +1

      In theory: The INU is primarily gyro based, gyros precess over time. That would be your standard nav drift over time, as mentioned about or up to 4km per hour flight time (according to the manual). Harsh maneuvering, wind and the like should in principle add their own errors to the system.
      In practice: I am pretty sure nav drift is not actually implemented in the Ka-50. Personally I have never noticed the PVI-800 showing any inaccuracy, so currently this shouldn't be something to worry about.

    • @TheDroppy68
      @TheDroppy68 5 років тому

      Thanks heaps @@Stahlwollvieh , I was wondering why I had never experienced drift in the KA-50, whilst it is so prevalent in the Viggen. Aside from the obvious "Viggen is faster etc.," reasons, I was convinced that I just hadn't flown a ' mission / flight profile' that was sufficient enough to create enough course deviation.
      I've been experimenting with the Mission Editor (I'm a newb in this field), and had created a mission were a flight of KA-50s are tasked with taking out a large S-300 complex (Prior to a large Naval aviation "Alpha strike"). Naturally, the distance-to-target is large enough that I was assuming INS drift would be a significant challenge for this flight to deal with. I guess it's back to the drawing board to consider some other trials for them aside from the "low and slow" one. :-)

      Yes, it degraded Very fast in Black shark 1. Requiring pre made FIXPOINTS, In each mission. You Target the fix pt, with skaval, then FLY AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE OVER IT. This would re center you ins, Cause the fix is a known point.. But seems Eagle dynamics, Omitted it here... which I dont like...

    In the DCS ka-50 missions there is mission where in the map is two fixpoints fxUG5L (or whatever that airfield was does not matter here) and fx1 in the ingress point elswhere in the map, later on the flight track. After takeoff in the track i fly pretty soon over that first (?) waypoint and my helo tells me to fix my nav (as it should i think). BUT i know how to select fx1, 2, 3 etcetc as my INU fix point to flyover (as seen here in the vid also). BUT how do I select that fxXXXX (fixpointairfieldcodenamed) before flyover +fix (or skval however). How does that work with those airfield named fx points?

    [QUESTION]: When I employ weapons such as the Vikhrs, the hover-mode circle and drift-vector line symbology disappear from the center of the HUD and are replaced by Shkval targeting symbology... Is there a way to switch back to "navigation-mode" symbology so that I can see hover-mode status and drift-vector again?
    I've watched all the tutorials on this chopper and no one addresses how to get back to Nav HUD mode after switching to other modes, which I'm sure is simple , but still has eluded me. Thanx in advance!

      That being said, with DCS, I probably have more simulation experience in Russian aircraft than most real-life Russian pilots have in their real-world aircraft... and I suck, so no wonder Russia's air force sucks so bad that they aren't even trying to use it in their real-world conflict. 🤣👍 Fawk Putin, and I hope he meets his ultimate fate soon™.

    Why is it so difficult to shoot down helicopters in DCS? I might be at fault too because I’m an idiot, but with the SU-27 it’s hopeless. BVR doesn’t track fully and IR get fooled by the flares.

    • @Stahlwollvieh
      @Stahlwollvieh 5 років тому +1

      They are pretty slow and usually low flying which makes them hard for the radar to track. Modern radars do however have the option to change PRF settings to better suit slow flying targets, that could help. Also chances are their engines don't have as much heat output as a jet exhaust does, making it harder for heat seekers to lock and track, even more so with IR deflectors on. Although most players will probably not notice you firing missiles at them if they are unaware of your presence and location, unless you fire them straight at their face, only the Gazelle even has an RWR as far as playable modules are concerned. AI on the other hand tends to have surpreme situational awareness, making it almost impossible to get sneaky missiles out on them, that might be part of the reason if you play a lot of PvE.

      Thanks for taking the time to reply. I’m new to DCS (less than 4 weeks) and I’m not brave enough to try the public servers yet. I may be wrong but I think the SU-27’s radar have trouble tracking and locking up targets that appear below the horizon. I’ll try some American aircraft to see what’s what.

    • @Stahlwollvieh
      @Stahlwollvieh 5 років тому +1

      @@dannsgamingfails8899 Anytime man, keep at it! Joining public servers might also be a good way to meet people that could help and teach you. Of course you can expect to get your ass handed to you for a while and that will be frustrating (unless you join a PvE server), but there's only so much fighting AI can teach you. It's not very smart, just ridiculously observant. ;)
      It would likely help you to look up and familiarize yourself with radar physics. You'll see that it's not a magic screen that shows all that's in front of you and when things don't work or don't show up on it there's reasons for that. Now, I won't pretend to be an authority, I don't prefer flying 4th gen and FC3 even less so, but here's the basics: Radar will filter out most stuff that doesn't have a significantly different closing speed to you than the ground. It has to since it (mostly) works by measuring doppler shift and otherwise the ground reflection would completely clutter your radar screen (older aircraft don't have this and their radar is practically useless close to the ground). Of course this can also be used against you, on purpose or by a lucky accident. Look up "notching", that's how you call avoiding enemy radar by using this method. Now, generally speaking modern radar systems have different PRF settings to offset these things and make it easier to find targets that are cold or hot or just not moving much relative to you. But that is where my Flanker knowledge kinda breaks down. I'm sure you'll find some guides for that if you have a google.

    Its said the ABRIS, Is not linked to the PVI, But this is wrong cause your Skaval line of sight its on the map here your got your Skaval unchanged. So its like their linked But only sorta? It would take alotta Programming and communication between the 3 systems, KA 60 Skaval, The PVI, And then the abris to Allow these lines of sight.. So I think they ARE Linked completely , but Dcs Didn't want us to have the ability to DRAW our waypoints, without Typing them.. Also the ABRIS Keeps the Datalink data, and updated the Skaval.. so no the ABRIS Is NOT A SEPERATE SYSTEM. It should be completely linked.. maybe in Black shark 3. I would hope we get a study level mod like the a10, And I kno it's not Historic but a option for a Modernish upgraded skaval Possibly with FLIR, Or Nvg. And possibly To fire Different Atgms, Though I love the whirlwind, and Full Integration of Abris GPS, [ which Russia didn't have in 86 when the KA 50 Was a thing..] Pvi [ with more waypoints] With Ins Alignment, annoying but I love it. And other various systems im sure I can't imagine.. Well it better have something new if I'm expected to pay.. again, for the third time.... Been playing Shark since like 12
