I just want to reiterate THIS IS A VIDEO GAME, it does not replicate all the intricacies found in a real world battle, it does not replicate the weapons capabilities in real life, and therefor it does not have any bearing on real life. I think some people forget that.
Not only is this a game, this is DCS, the worst game to simulate a naval battle in. That's why I watch cap's videos with a huge bag of salt lol. His videos are fun, but in no way it simulates or represents what would have happened if the USN and PLAN clashed in the sea.

@@kimjonglongdong3158 DCS is not made for modern naval warfare simulation, only something like Command: Modern Operations can do something like this and even CMO is not realistic enough. the naval battles you see on this channel are not real and this is not how they would nplay out in real life. Most of the weapons used have their real capabilities classified, the ranges of the naval battles are not real, the missiles and AI are dumb af, there is no EW involved, etc. Naval warfare is very complex for a game like DCS to emulate properly, not even CMO is capable of that.

Why is this a complaint? They only have 8 Type 055 and 25 Type 052. The US has 73 Arleigh Burks, and 13 Ticonderoga. IF people want to put all the freaking Chinese cruisers 055 in one carrier group then the US should be allowed 9 Ticonderoga's. Each hosting 75% of their Cruizer fleet in one carrier group which is stupid. Really the 2 055 and 4 052 vs 2 TC & 4 AB should really look like... The US having 12 Arleigh Burks and 3 Ticonderoga's and 2-3 Carriers vs 1 Chinese Carrier 2 055 and 4 052.
@@WindowsXP-SP3 its more or so their missile capacity that makes them relevant, they have around 122 VLS cells vs the Burke's 96 VLS cells. and Datalinking is a thing so even if the Tico's have older radars the Burkes can make up for that and guide the missiles the Tico fires along with the E-2 hawkeye towards the targets.

It lofts a small kill vehicle into near-space along the trajectory of the BM, and then the kill vehicle jets itself into the sub-orbital BM. The kill vehicle on the SM-3 isn't even explosive, it is entirely kinetic. The YJ-21 and YJ-18 are based on short-range BM's that don't leave the atmosphere. The US Navy carries SM-3s in their VLS because these interceptors need to be used over the Pacific near the Russian/Chinese coasts, or over the Atlantic near the European coast. If used near the US coasts, the warheads would likely already be entering the atmosphere and could not be intercepted with an SM-3.
CAP, can you please model the SEARAM for the arleigh burke flight III's. It is similar to the HQ-10 from the chinese. I know you have the RIM 116, but they seem under modeled compared to the HQ-10
In 2023 alone, China built 43.22 million tons of ships while America only 0.6 million. Just imagine if China puts that massive ship building capacity into military purpose. It can make American navy look like a small baby in no time.
The problem is with the conversion rate (seen 30:1 from some study) and restricted supply of crucial parts. But I highly doubt the scenario as the building time of modern warships are that long and the supply chain so vulnerable. The side that is slightly disadvantaged in the first few days will have their shipbuilding asset wiped out. And to consider that the US has two ocean fronts and its operation base lined up all the way toward China's door step, basically it can afford to lose many battles but keep gaming while China is one defeat from game over.

And you certainly wouldn't watch if the game crashed over and over from the US using multiple carrier groups! Simulations will improve over time, of course! That said, I personally get huge value from the occasional exploration of a reality-centric video like this one. Well done!

This game is 16 years old? So a 2008 engine but with 2024 tech. I love when you redo old battles because of the history lessons. I enjoy these as well though.

I don't know anything about DCS so i've no idea if it can even be done. But I would like to see a PvP battle with evenly matched fleets where each side has a player acting as the admiral. That would really give some insight into what a real battle would be like.
Would love to see zumwalt eventually, both versions the current one and its future refit to give it the Long Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW), it might be able to counter the 055 class of ships.
No it does not because it's not a naval simulator. It's a digital air combat simulator that has Naval assets. You're going to have to find a naval simulator to realistically do this kind of simulation. As he said this is just for fun

@grimreapers You're infographic for the Type 055 is wrong. In the sim the Type 055 fired 480 HHQ9Bs but the infographic you posted shows them with 72 a piece for 432 in total. So it looks like in game they have 80 HHQ-9Bs

The modeling of YJ18 should be improved. It is a subsonic and supersonic anti-ship missile.This missile will discard the subsonic tail at the end, and the supersonic warhead at the front will sprint at a speed exceeding Mach 3.
Just an observation - The type 055 is larger than its counterparts; 6 of these would equate to 7 Burke class in terms of displacement, which in turn provides and equivalent number of VLS cells between the two sides. I wonder if a strike group would add the 7th destroyer if such a fight were anticipated. Another aspect that troubles me about these fights - the aircraft take off after the fight has already started. Wouldn't it make more sense to have at least some of the aircraft in the air at the start of the engagement (if not all of them)?
Yep at the very least the Carrier should have a flight of 2-4 in the air on patrol to help buy time to launch the next flight and if the carrier group are the ones initiating the fight they should already have at least a full squadron in the air before the fight starts.
Cap great video as always…. One consideration I keep thinking about during this series is the anti ship planes once launched anti ship weapons they should engage other planes with short range
currently uk only have 2 operational type 45 the rest are being reffited and 8 type 23 frigate with 1 being reffited and 7 operational as there main surface fleet that is total of 9 escort ships that is ready for tasking that is absoulutly atrocious for a navy that regard it self as world class.
It would be awesome, but he said he's waiting for people to create the models for those other navies. I think it will take a while... There are also tricky things to model for them, like the STRALES system used by Italy.

So in reality the Us would have the carrier along with destroyers, cruisers, and attack subs and the last 3 ships mentioned all would have anti ship missiles. The ships also have anti aircraft/ missile defense. But as you properly did the us would also include ally ships in operations in certain type of operations. However our aircraft carriers have the F35s so the air wing would definitely launched to also counter the 055 type destroyers causing the Chinese to either loose their ships or turn and break off!

Overmodeled Chinese Destroyers they get their full propaganda stats even though the Chinese have no experience in modern warfare (especially naval warfare) to prove their capabilities. The carrier groups also have no planes in the air until the fight has already started.
If real war started, and going with nukes wont be used, how long could any country expect to keep affording, monetarily, too replace destroyed top of the line equipment? Planes, tanks, ships...all of it..at what point would a country be forced to go back a generation or 2 of a given piece of equipment? Let's say its the 3rd year of a back and fourth hard fought war, both sides are having medium to heavy losses. With the cost of the top equipment being so much money, I feel like at some point the top equipment would no longer be an option for replacement. F35 back to F15 type of situation. I know it’s got to be a cast iron bitch to A come up with ideas for entertaining videos B try and please all sides in the viewership and C do it every other day. I personally am neutral on these carriers battles because they don’t really take into consideration all the things that would happen in reality. It’s basically leakage of anti ship missiles. Whichever side prevents the most leakage wins. I much prefer the historical recreations and re-enactments. With the maps we have now in DCS there are tons of historical and interesting topics. Just the Sinai map alone is enough for a month’s worth of videos. Any way, that’s my 2 cents for what it’s worth

This is so dumb. The whole point of a US carrier group is FORCE PROJECTION. The Chinese destroyers would never get in missile range before the carrier launched all its strike-capable aircraft to attack them. Plus, while the strike aircraft are executing their mission, the US carrier group would be steaming in the opposite direction of the Chinese task force to keep them out of their missile range.

yeah SeaRAM is better than CIWS in all sorts of testing. but in DCS it doesn't work for some reason

DCS literally came out 16 years ago but it is continuously updated. Also remember it is a air combat simulator not a naval simulator

Because I know the Ford supercarrier class it has sm3 and sm6 launchers and out defensive system such as Harpoons also attack systems also

I’m new to this but would these destroyers ever get within firing range of their anti ship missles? Seems like the advantage of an aircraft carrier is like having aircraft that can out range a ship
UA-cam keeps deleting my comments with suggestions so I guess I'll just give up and say that the U.S. Naval doctrine (centered around AEGIS) cannot be accurately modeled in DCS.

@grimreapers You're infographic for the Type 055 is wrong. In the sim the Type 055 fired 480 HHQ9Bs but the infographic you posted shows them with 72 a piece for 432 in total. So it looks like in game they have 80 HHQ-9Bs

Depends on the navies in question. Swiss Navy vs Paraguayan Navy is totally doable(technically both of those nations have naval contingents...sorta).

@@IetsgoBrandon I actually wrote Mongolian Navy first instead of Paraguayan, but it was too much of an insult to DCS, plus technically the "Mongolian Navy" wasn't really a military/armed branch even though it was at one point a government owned service.

The modeling of YJ18 should be improved. It is a subsonic and supersonic anti-ship missile.This missile will discard the subsonic tail at the end, and the supersonic warhead at the front will sprint at a speed exceeding Mach 3.
I know this is DCS which is avaliable on steam but i always thought it was just fighter jets that were allowed. how are you using naval assets?

Just an observation - The type 055 is larger than its counterparts; 6 of these would equate to 7 Burke class in terms of displacement, which in turn provides and equivalent number of VLS cells between the two sides. I wonder if a strike group would add the 7th destroyer if such a fight were anticipated.
Another aspect that troubles me about these fights - the aircraft take off after the fight has already started. Wouldn't it make more sense to have at least some of the aircraft in the air at the start of the engagement (if not all of them)?
Yep at the very least the Carrier should have a flight of 2-4 in the air on patrol to help buy time to launch the next flight and if the carrier group are the ones initiating the fight they should already have at least a full squadron in the air before the fight starts.

It’s a dcs limit. AS units cannot engage enemy air unless it’s self defence
currently uk only have 2 operational type 45 the rest are being reffited and 8 type 23 frigate with 1 being reffited and 7 operational as there main surface fleet that is total of 9 escort ships that is ready for tasking that is absoulutly atrocious for a navy that regard it self as world class.

We all need to take into account that no matter how good Chinese weapons have gotten… maybe … maybe 80 % will work properly. All the hype considered, they just aren’t “all that”…yet.
Could we please see an all asian carrier battle? Izuma and Kaga vs Liaoning, Shandong. Maybe South Korea supports the Japanese with two Sejong The Great destroyers attached to their groups (similar vla to Ticonderoga).

So in reality the Us would have the carrier along with destroyers, cruisers, and attack subs and the last 3 ships mentioned all would have anti ship missiles. The ships also have anti aircraft/ missile defense. But as you properly did the us would also include ally ships in operations in certain type of operations. However our aircraft carriers have the F35s so the air wing would definitely launched to also counter the 055 type destroyers causing the Chinese to either loose their ships or turn and break off!

Your entire analogy is false. Nuclear submarines are purpose built ship-killers (and killers of other subs).
By contrast, destroyers are primarily designed for AAW and ASW is secondary.

2 carrier groups vs 6 destroyers?
Overmodeled Chinese Destroyers they get their full propaganda stats even though the Chinese have no experience in modern warfare (especially naval warfare) to prove their capabilities.
The carrier groups also have no planes in the air until the fight has already started.
If real war started, and going with nukes wont be used, how long could any country expect to keep affording, monetarily, too replace destroyed top of the line equipment? Planes, tanks, ships...all of it..at what point would a country be forced to go back a generation or 2 of a given piece of equipment? Let's say its the 3rd year of a back and fourth hard fought war, both sides are having medium to heavy losses. With the cost of the top equipment being so much money, I feel like at some point the top equipment would no longer be an option for replacement. F35 back to F15 type of situation. US VS Russia/China... how long could each country keep replacing top of the line with top of the line?

I know it’s got to be a cast iron bitch to A come up with ideas for entertaining videos B try and please all sides in the viewership and C do it every other day. I personally am neutral on these carriers battles because they don’t really take into consideration all the things that would happen in reality. It’s basically leakage of anti ship missiles. Whichever side prevents the most leakage wins. I much prefer the historical recreations and re-enactments. With the maps we have now in DCS there are tons of historical and interesting topics. Just the Sinai map alone is enough for a month’s worth of videos. Any way, that’s my 2 cents for what it’s worth

This is so dumb. The whole point of a US carrier group is FORCE PROJECTION. The Chinese destroyers would never get in missile range before the carrier launched all its strike-capable aircraft to attack them. Plus, while the strike aircraft are executing their mission, the US carrier group would be steaming in the opposite direction of the Chinese task force to keep them out of their missile range.
If US carrier get to the opposite position, where will these planes land? The bases around China but also covered by their ballistic missiles?
