Another cool way to use AP in the Ka 50 is in conjunction with the Helmet sight. activate turn to target on the weapons panel, make sure heading hold is activated, then engage the helmet mounted sight, look in the direction you would like to travel then uncage the shval. this will immediately turn the helicopter on a heading toward where the shval is pointed. it's the preferred lazy mans way to navigate!

You can also fly the helicopter purely with HMS by:
1) Turn to target enabled
2) Route Mode engaged
3) No waypoint selected on PVI-800
4) HMS turned on
now when you move your hms and uncage shkval, helicopter will treat it as if it's a waypoint in route mode and fly towards it. Makes doing gun runs extremely easy.
The rad/bar switch has third, neutral position. That's why you were keep climbing in spite of the attitude AP channel was enabled.
You can make sure the altitude hold actually works looking on signal lamps in the left upper panel. There are two separate indicators for both altitude hold modes
Worth noting that the Flight Director will give you bank/pitch cues on the HUD if you have Route mode enabled (either to maintain heading when set, or to next waypoint if any is selected). Also gives you indications to climb/descend if you have Alt Hold on. It basically tells you what the autopilot would do if it were allowed to be in control. Much like the Flight Director in a modern civil aircraft.

The DT/DH-button (right under the Flight-director button) as wel as the R-Alt/B-ALT button have another setting. You can put it in the middle of the two settings ! Nobody ever speaks of those settings. Why ? What do they do ?

You explain the BARO/RADAR Altitude hold selector as if it has 2 settings… it has 3 ! What is the 3rd one ?
Same goes for the Desired heading/Desired track modeswitch
well, I see that the question is two years old, but the third setting is OFF mode. 4 example cap keeps flying with the altitude hold off all the time , cause his BARO/RADAR switch is in a neutral position
looks like your cockpit has inverted logic on the autopilot buttons, illuminated should be on, whereas on your video it's the opposite...

Hi.ı have a problem.ka50 mission editor a simple flight trim but multiplayer servers not flight dont work ka50 trim easy flight mode.why?
I'm not sure any of the Easy modes work any more to be honest.
Hi I'm thinking of joining, I have DCS and the FC3 DLC, it says you need 3 modules to join. What would you recommend for a noob pilot?
FC3 is a good start. hi-fi plane from each of the plane generations if poss. 1) 4th gen 2) 3rd 3) 2nd gen 4) chopper
So what's the difference between flight director and holding the trim button, if any?
holding trim button cuts the dampers on all axis when pressed IIRC. FD leaves them switched on whilst still enabling manual control.
Can I just use flight director when I'm just flying freely? Cause I hate trimming

since these videos were posted the illumination bug has been fixed, when the buttons are illuminated brightly they are on

Back then there was a bug where the buttons where lit when OFF. I need to re-do these Kamov vids.
Gey you playin on a controller? Saw those joy POV options in your controls... in stuck with one... it works .. for the ka 50, my stick broke.. and I never had petals, so then controller is doable. Its just a pain wondering if I should use GAME avionics, not flight.. I want to be easier, but no auto lock, I do like the radar.. it's like a situational awareness [ how I justify]
