Reminds me of an anecdote from a claim inspector I know, of how she investigated an accident in a factory, and the owner was there discussing the costs of damage of various equipment with her, while there was a literal outline of a dude splattered on the wall next to them.
I didn't realise I needed a Benoit Blanc the Frog Detective/Obra Dinn crossover but very happy now that it's here...I'm betting one of the victims was pincered by Lobster Cop!
34:03 Any huge long piece of wood that has to do with sails is called a spar. This one is a yard, (formerly) supporting a square-rigged sail. A yardarm is a tip of the yard. So technically these are all correct :)
I loved this game - even though at one point I'm certain I spent a good 3 hours just staring at the ship crew drawing waiting for some sort of epiphany to strike.
There once was a great ship of Spartan/ who’s crew did well to dishearten/ A torn apart Maba/ a “you killed my Bruva!”/ And a Scottish ship wife crying “MARTIN!”
I do really enjoy the genre of fiction that's like fantasy but turned into boring, normal-life bureaucratic nonsense - something Pratchett did on the regular. So I really enjoy the idea that our insurance investigator is in a normal world and has possession of a cursed pocket watch that allows them to witness the deaths of other people and rather than having a grand destiny or changing the world they just sort of... fell into a day job where they can make some use of it.
Oh boy, I just watched like the first 40 minutes of the stream, but I think I'll have to save the rest for later, because this seems too much fun and I may have to play this game myself, first! Just the other day I told my friend I'd love "a life sim" where you rebuild an old haunted castle while searching for secret passages and piecing together stories of the ghosts haunting it. This gets pretty damn close to that premise as far as the mystery part goes, and it's NAUTICAL?? Amazing. To my playlist it goes!
I just got back after catching up on other things at work and got to see Johnny read my super chat. Thank you, you kind human; it has been helpful since I am working extra hours so I can get a 4-day weekend. Just one more day.
So very glad to see you pick this back up again! Really hope to see you stream it through to completion. I'm happy someone explained the Transcript tip to you, politely and with permission of course ^_^
Hi Johnny!!! I’ve started working at a hospital (clerical not clinical) and it such a huge difference between working in restaurants!! Friday the 16th was my first day on my own was super difficult (thought about quitting) but I’m trying! Thanks to your videos and the Oxcrew have helped me get through this adjustment period
Thank you very much for this, Johnny! I've had a blast watching on team vod squad! It's been an absolute delight watching you play this wonderful game and exploring. I even teared up with joy a couple times when you made exciting realizations!
So happy to see you play this!!! Hopefully will catch it live sometime. Also, I can relate to the difficulty rating of the guesses being essentially a star rating for anxiety
Hey Johnny! Super happy you're playing this. I was sad to not see your playthrough on eurogamer completed. I think it was you at least haha. I've always been a fan since the bratters days. Thanks for all of your awesome ;)
I've been putting off starting to watch this because I was SO excited when I saw you were playing it that I didn't want to start it and then it be over! After seeing you play it with Aoife I got this myself and fell completely in love with it (spent hours and hours on the wiki after finishing it). The music is incredible. The whole game is incredible. Ok need to go calm down now 😅
Heaven's Vault is one I would love to see streamed! The only time I played it was when it was brand-new and I was VERY sick with the flu, so I just have fever dreams of it. But I remember I liked it a lot!
Make sure you keep checking out mask of the rose its an amazing game. I've completed the main story about 3 times now with different outfits as it does give you some different options. I also did it with different pronouns so dont know if some romances are gender locked (I romance griz using female pronouns for example) but the representation is great. Enby. Poly. It's just fantastic. It reignited my love of visual novels
I played this game a few years ago and I loved it. I was in the process of finishing my degree in maritime history at the time and it was very appropriate. But I'd be a liar if I said I didn't lie awake at night thinking about the butcher's death. I dealt well with the game generally but idk that one just... Haunts me.
For me and I'm sure many other lovers of Obra Dinn the greatest disappointment is replaying the game doesn't capture the original joy of the discovery unravelling the story. Instead we get to enjoy with you the eureka moments when you finally figure out whats going on so I'd love to watch your adventure getting to the bottom of this mystery!
The early topman was one of my last identifies because I was absolutely convinced his tattoos were Scottish woad, and I could not be convinced otherwise.
Surely it's a pocket viewing. Either the kind of viewing a mouse does before it moves in, or a very small viewing of a house, i.e. Here's the house, you can see it through the letterbox, there you go.😉
Why did I have to miss this one? Damn you odd working hours. Edit: Probably good I missed this one. I don't want to spoil anything, which I'm liable to do accidentally with such a game. Edit: About the complexity of Tea. . . how much of this are recent additions to the language, and how much of the lingo is liable to last?
Johnny I wanted to point out something I noticed on a second watching of the video, take a closer look at the name of the person who asked you to fill in the book!
As someone who works in insurance, I can confirm that this game is the most accurate portrayal of a claim inspector’s job I have ever played.
I didnt know you had to deal with so many seamonsters.
Reminds me of an anecdote from a claim inspector I know, of how she investigated an accident in a factory, and the owner was there discussing the costs of damage of various equipment with her, while there was a literal outline of a dude splattered on the wall next to them.
Are the mystical death watches available for commercial use??

I never saw that knifey-mouthy-chap until I identified his skellybob! I thought he was hiding in the Captains en-suite!
And I am an hour in without finding the dead woMan and the Captain!!!
Squeeeeeeeee!
This is one of those games I played and then immediately wished I could forget it all and play it again!
This is why we watch other people play games like these - for the vicarious thrill of experiencing the game for the first time again

The music for soldiers of the sea is the fuckin' best.

Just like mom driving; Leave well alone or we all go into the ditch!

Part of the vodsquad this week and what a delightful stream - very pleased that you are continuing next week!

Johnny! Your advice on freezing chippy chips is a game changer. Can't believe I've never heard this before. Amazing!
PLEASE play through the whole game!! All 60 fates! Absolutely love this
I love the discussions of different mealtimes at 2:20:00 -ish. Half expected to hear a LotR "what about second breakfast" or elevensies joke
1:35:34 "I'm sorry I put us all through the poop one" is going into my lexicon post haste

Tag yourself, I'm one of the terrible crabs
Hi I'm 'crushed by cannon'
My fursona's an octopus, so I think I gotta be the Kraken
I’m Probably the goat in the cage. Just kind of there. Not really doing much. Just there.
Loved the stream Johnny! I will try to be there live for the next one. Your reactions made my day
It was indeed a fantastic stream! What an intriguing game ❤🔥
I've never seen this game played before, and I'm glad I got around to watching you play.
The return of the return of the Obra Dinn 1:30:35
Vape cloud like "that's for schoolgirls. Now here's a route with some chest hair."
Love how they used an actual Danish VA for the Dane.😊❤🇩🇰
Heaven's Vault is one I would love to see streamed! The only time I played it was when it was brand-new and I was VERY sick with the flu, so I just have fever dreams of it. But I remember I liked it a lot!
glad to see that the master and commander meta was alive and well in this stream, unlike, well, everything else
Dead Can Dance gave us "Return of the She-King"

... Yup, I'mma buy this game now. Le sigh.

Plus I am pretty sure it alternates a male and female PC voice on your saves
Purser? ... I hardly know her!

From henceforth I am calling bayonets "Riffelniffs" xD
The early topman was one of my last identifies because I was absolutely convinced his tattoos were Scottish woad, and I could not be convinced otherwise.
2:05:38 I did not expect to find myself on the list of casualties. Sad mooo. 🐮

You need a f*ing spreadsheet to play this game
Just wondering if Johnny would enjoy streaming Everybody's Gone to the Rapture? Might be a nice chilled stream but can get pretty emotional in places.
Feisty opening JC

This looks like a very interesting game. Thanks for playing it. I'm going to stop watching and play on my own so as to avoid spoilers.
34:10 how many tackles?!?
