For your oven, get yourself a thermal cut off plug so you can set a temperature range you want to go to and that will switch the heat gun on and off when needed. Easily available. It’s what I use to heat up composite repairs on aircraft.
What timing! I'm building a '68 912 and was just working through how best to make my Cerakote oven. Haven't watched this video yet and sure it will have some great tips. Built my walk-in parts spray booth by hanging poly with a zipper from the garage joists. Still working on best way for the oven. Some good vids out there. Love your channel. Love older Porsche's.
Lots of options for blasting media. I started using coal slag primarily for finishing metal bits. Now that you've got a nice setup, it's easy to switch. The Cerakote will be a gamechanger.
-I think this video is great for many people but it is beyond anything I would ever want to do. -There is a guy in town here that set up a cerakoting "lab" in his backyard. -Very fair prices for his work and fantastic job. -So instead of watching you "cook" in your back yard I went down stairs and watch my wife open our real oven pulling out a tray of hot, fresh, home-made chocolate chip cookies (2 bag of chips per recipe). -With those over sized and over-loads chips called cookies in my hand I will watch your next video. Forgive my ignorance- but would the heat gun have a duty cycle? Not sure how long you have to bake items- just want to avoid having the gun stop during a cure cycle. Thanks
Yes foam is flammable… but the flash point is much higher than the 300 he will be running the oven. The spot where the heat gun is is pretty much the only spot to be a little worried about. I’m luck, I have an old electric oven that I got for free in my shop.
i like the home oven - just to ask - I got scared on your behalf being your oven is inside and surrounded in wood. I know it sounds super cheap but would building a basic bolt together outer frame out of angle iron and aluminum taping these together, so it is then collapsible and can run outside be simpler? I am also thinking about the baking and how you might not want that inside your garage or able to blow in your home. My assumption, but that stuff is not good to breathe in. I would only have to do this with a few parts on my upcoming build, but knowing I don't have to farm this out is a relief. Looking forward to the next video.
There's literally no heat transfer to the wood at all so I'm not worried about that. And it is outside in a breezeway! If you decided to build it out of angle iron the price on it would be hundreds of dollars, and at that point you can just buy an oven.
You should check out How To Motor Cycle Repair for his videos on sand blasting vapor blasting and diy cabinet builds/conversions. And his own blasting gun design. Ive got the gun but not yet got the cabinet set up

Great info, can't wait to see how the coated items turn out.

Pretty sure those insulation boards are flammable. I'd do a little test try putting a flame to an off cut! Maybe line the box with fireboards.

@@cjsawinski yea maybe a pipe spacer around the head of the gun nozzle.
we are rocking Mike
I still cringe everytime I see that engine fall off the jack, lol
You really should put a piece of 1x2 on the door where you cut it in half. Should help the door close better and stop it warping.
You'll be able to form acrylic too - just saying 🤪

I have had metal removed from my eye before - damn awful.
