I recommend mounting a roll of paper to the top of your air filter for test spray. Then you can still use the suction to hold it in place but have exponentially more paper to test on.

Gavin, excellence information and an awesome setup. However as a fellow Applicator with several years of experience please wear a Respirator for your safety everytime you are Applying Cerakote.

Most people don't seem to realise that organic solvents flash off at room temperature and are extremely bad for you, so the second you uncap the container you should be masked up with a respirator capable of dealing with the fumes.

Gavin, I would recommend High Temp powder coating tape. I used the blue high temp tape from NIC industries for awhile, but I now I much prefer a powder coat tape and I get it off of Amazon for much cheaper.
We Cerakote tens of thousands of parts per year and this is now my new favorite.

Thank you so much for this video. I have taken a lot of inspiration from this. The room with a patio door, the DIY exhaust and your overall OCD and cleanliness is super satisfying.
I wanted to give you one suggestion that I learned at a training course (not the factory). Use a magnetic lab stirrer from Apera Instruments to stir your bottles and get rid of the noisy paint shaker.

I am currently 6 months into my degree at SDI for gunsmithing. I specifically did this course so I could start my own Cerakote shop! I had already looked into those ovens, and will be using your promo code! I did some coating back in 2017-18 for two local shops that unfortunately did not make it. Once I finish my school I will be going to get certified. Thanks for all the detailed information! I like how organized your shop set up is!

Get your masking tapes off the window sill and out of direct sunlight.
Also, a large swivel in front of and over your spray area to enable rotating a hanging part is helpful, especially to avoid handling misshapes, and insure more consistent application.
    Nice! Well thought through system.
Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year y’all.

Sharpertek sells an ultrasonic cleaner that’s designed for acetone (or any flammable liquid) instead of water. It’s pricey but worth it.

Well you can tell that the governing body in his township has not been out to do any inspections because there is no electrical inspector that would allow that main switch that close to a water source. And that’s just within the first 3 minutes of the video.

This 21+ years licensed professional HVAC technician agrees with your observation along with MANY other DIY things in his shop that I happened to notice. That was a 240 volt disconnect switch too, mind you. Not to burst his bubble but the "nerdy guy with glasses" is just like the "handyman husband" that can DO IT ALL and can't really do anything!

I have a cheap Harbor Freight unit and did many upgrades. One of the best is a cyclonic filter. Plumb it in prior to the dust collector. You will increase the life of the dust collector I bet twenty times over. I use a 5 gallon vacuum cleaner from Rigid and in 3 years of intermittent use and disposing of over 50# of dust, I have yet to put in a new filter but service it sorta regularly. All the dust is collected saving my vacuum filter and motor.

Sure looks like that Cerakote has a good business model. They sell the training courses and then sell you all of the components to do the work.. Win/Win
Nice setup you built there including the line work, but long time followers all know with your OCD you will have those galvanized pipes above your spray guns taken apart and Cerakoted blue to match the air line by the next time we see them! 🤣
Have you run into a situation yet where there is a backorder or shipment delays getting a specific color you don't have in inventory? It would be a sizeable startup expense to have to buy any colors in bulk before you need to use them to prevent projects backing up.
Thanks for the video, Happy New Year!

Gavin you can add more air reservoir space to your already storing capacity by running 2 or 3 inch lines to all your equipment and then reduce to whatever size you want. It will help safe your compressor not running for long periods at a time and it will add more air flow as well to your equipment .

I did it on this budget, I used a 12$ semi clear plastic storage box, cut 2 glove holes in the lid , duct tape, 1 hole for shop vacuum 1 for air intake. 3$ Harbor freight rubber gloves, HF 15$ sand blast gun, 20lb of some aluminum media might have cost 30$, i think it was a HF 20$ spray air gun and 35$ cerakote w air compressor i had already. Not high end shop quality but it worked haha.

If you have trouble with dust from the floor, you can mist the floor down with water before painting.
How do you keep the spray booth temperature steady? What do you use for heat and A/C?
What type of spray guns do you use?

    • @CalebWayneMcCready
      @CalebWayneMcCready Рік тому +2

Temperature does not present an issue. I am cerakote certified and do this for a living. The moisture in your air is the main thing that gives application issues.

What do you use for your SVG files for your vinyl? Do you create your own or did you buy them?
