Hey could you guys do a comparison video on the differences between the two Allison series 1000 vs 2000, I thought they were just physically larger but you put a 1000 tail on the 2000 making me even more curious about the differences.
It's awesome to see those guys putting your transmission together with ease, definitely some talented people over there at Xcaliber! Their machine work is superb and the in-house dyno is awesome
Eccentric Smithy it was just a dry fit for the video demo so they wouldn’t make a mess. They do soak everything. They also fill the units on the dyno and drain them to remove any break in material which many trans builders don’t have the ability to do.
Mad respect for leaving the id tag inside the transmission with information and company name. You know they take some real pride in their work if they are willing to do that.
After seeing this video, you just answered a ton of questions I had, & saved me a ton of legwork. Bought an '04 Freightliner bus/Cummins/Allison, for my upcoming Dodge project! Thanks again, stay safe!
I live not far from The guys that did your transmission and I have a couple buddies that have used them and I’ve heard nothing but good things. You’re in good hands with that one!
That's me too, pretty much. It's amazing what you can pick-up though, if the people you're watching know what they're doing *and* know how to put it across in a way that can be understood by those with less knowledge/skills.
The torque converter replacement is good to keep contaminants out of a new build...so remember to flush your radiator trans tank and lines as well...just to be through.
Thank you for your videos. They’re very informative and entertaining as well. They keep me going, wanting to improve my junk. I have a 2001 2500HD w/ 6.0. I’m on second engine and trans. The originals are in my garage awaiting rebuilds. All together, it has well over 500,000 miles. Electrical in dash cluster went out years ago, so I don’t have exact numbers. But between my dad and I, we’ve gotten plenty out of this truck since he ordered from the factory, new.
Don't know about you lot but the thing that got me hyped at the start was the engine but I'm actually more hyped about the interior than anything else since it'll be one of a kind.
From experiences in a past life (10 years ago now, so things change)... School buses, at least in the US, aren't actually derated (maybe you're talking about transmission calibrations specifically?). It's up to whatever the district decides to put in their bid spec. If they said 500hp, OEs would package 500hp, somehow... Man would I have loved for that to land on my desk back in the day. 15L in an REBus? Hell ya, brother! Get ready to lose about 4 rows of seats and gain about 12 radiators, but it would be worth it. The power limitation on most buses is cooling, but on a conventional cab it's the same as a truck so 300hp+, the same as any other MD, was a standard option in them. In FE/RE, the power usually had to go down because you just couldn't cool it. Believe or not, you could order a CE with a PTO too if you wanted, though I'm sure you're right that no one ever has. Oddly, I was told that it's actually _illegal_ to derate the power of a school bus or emergency vehicle in the US, by way of engine protection anyhow, because if the options are someone dies or it tosses the rods out trying, it's better to toss the rods out trying. I've never tested that beyond what I was told (so a tech may have witnessed a school bus derating in reality), but it seemed plausible. This could all be different in Canada too, of course. Anyhow... You've found the one school bus nerd in your viewership. Or at least I was in days gone by. Also, props to the guy that did the exploded animation on that thing. That took a few minutes. ;)
MD 3060, MT 643 were good units in school buses many went cradle to grave 200,000 plus . PTS 2000 not so good had to have with electronic engines. The AT 540 ,545 we almost put quick connects on them. We kept one in stock. Of course the AT was cheaper when the buses were bid and they were replaced many times over the life of the bus . Really a nice looking rebuild.
why are they rated in HP shouldnt they be built to handle X amount of torque with HP being pretty negligible? im sure they hold up fine with a 500hp turbo 4banger infront of it that might make 280ftlbs peak torque but take a 300HP cummins that might peak out at 1100ft lbs big difference but youd think the little gasser would be harder on it purely looking at HP not a realistic combination but shows my thinking
HP is calculated using the torque output value, at least on commercial applications. So... one 400HP diesel will make close to the same torque numbers as another 400HP diesel.
Except the little four banger won't bolt to it, and all of the engines that do operate in the same RPM range. HP is tourqe and rpm, so since the hp max is known and they all run in the same rpm range, the torqe figure is factored in even if it doesn't get a spot on the pamphlet.
Yea basically it is built to a torque spec But they make it HP rating because that's what the consumer wants Its easier to split the difference between makes and models when searching the Web But I bet if you actually asked them they could tell you the torque rating of each and every component in the trans For those interested horse power is toruque (in ft-lb) X rpm / 5252 Doesn't matter if its a deisel a petrol electric or steam engine The same formula for everything
@@fowletm1992 i realize torque is HP times rpm/5252 but my point was the trans doesnt care about rpm it cares about torque, and as far as everyone operating in the same rpm range thats a very specific assumption.. its pretty easy to add valve springs an rev a cummins out to 4500 rpm for extra power but that does nothing for torque
@@AndrewBrowner If you were serious about performance and talked to the builder they'd quote you per torque rateing But for the general consumer and advertising theyre done in horsepower Its purely advertising Just like turbos and intercollegiate and axles Everyrhing is rated in a round about horsepower even if its a bit irrelevant Could prob get hp rated headlights
I know this is off topic and may not be seen, but if you plan on going to Mosport (Canadian tire motor speedway) to test the Quattro i'd love to come see it.
Man that thing's big. I have put a 6 speed 1000 into my Humvee that doubles as a work truck and I thought that was kind of big (I usually work with small sports and rally cars for perspective). Going from the 3 speed to the 6 speed pretty much solved the whole "top speed being ~65mph if you're lucky while pinging rpms" problem and really bumped up the fuel economy. Planned on replacing the Detroit but after doing some basic upgrades to it plus the transmission swap I haven't felt any need. I don't haul or anything with it, it's just something fun to drive around that I can flush out easy and toss an engine in the little bed or something to move around. I've done a 14 hour round trip in it since the swap and it was smooth cruising the entire way with the new seats.
I've got a 3116 in a medium duty TopKick that is an absolute DOG. Is it worth trying to get any power out of the motor or just swap it for a DT466 or something else in that range?
I came to the comments for the same reason. The first few may have been soaked but a saw alot of dry fractions going in there. My hope is after doing mesuments it came back apart and got soaked.
it was just a dry fit for the video demo so they wouldn’t make a mess. They do soak everything. They also fill the units on the dyno and drain them to remove any break in material which many trans builders don’t have the ability to do.

Thats a really good price for an Allison. A 6l90 will cost you nearly as much. Its making me rethink my idea of a 6l90 behind my 6.5 when an Allison can be had for nearly the same.. What the difference between the 1000 and the 2000?

Red paint on an auto trans gives you the extra HP well also fixxing any leaks!! genius
So that's why mine has more power, and doesn't leak... Always wondered.

Yeah. You can see, that theae guys know their transmissions. Pleasure to watch. Easy to see, that they have done soooo many of these.
In the first shot of that walkthrough I saw their DMM and was like holy shit!
Those dudes at Excalibur don't smoke a fat stogie...I'm not sure I trust em! Hahaha peace!
Joe is shaking his head right now
It's funny that I remember exactly what you're talking about.
Ash is an additive is some oils... some add a bit more.
I dont trust them just because I just watched them build a trans completely dry with no soaking of the clutches or pre lube assembly.
Eccentric Smithy it was just a dry fit for the video demo so they wouldn’t make a mess. They do soak everything. They also fill the units on the dyno and drain them to remove any break in material which many trans builders don’t have the ability to do.
I have seen a lot of complicated amazing machines in my life but the automatic transmission still ranks as one of the most incredible in my opinion.
Sir, this might now be my favorite youtube build of all time for many reasons. Please make a full length on this!
Mad respect for leaving the id tag inside the transmission with information and company name. You know they take some real pride in their work if they are willing to do that.
The sheer *number* of parts in that trans is mindblowing and, presumably, leaving *one piece* out could wreck the whole thing?
Nice build, I live in CT and didn't even realize they were here. I've heard if them, good to know its local for my duramax Trans when it needs it
Thanks Xcalliber transmission for taking us into your shop and showing us how’s it’s done. 👍🏼.

Awesome, I have a 07 Allison 1000 i want to rebuild and put behind my 12 valve that will all be swapped in my 1993 Suburban K2500.
When are gonna start putting it together I'm dying to see it
Engine will be done this week. I'll likely bolt them together and get it running on a stand to figure out all the wiring before we get into the truck
@@DEBOSSGARAGE That sounds oddly professional... Are you the guy that's been polluting Sloppy's mind lately? ;)

Last time I mentioned an Allison my wife came after me with a rolling pin.
Very nice, I was glad to see the Allison's internals.

We are pampered with the quality content deboss garage puts out.
Special shout out to the post production team. Really good video.
That guy Ryan at Xcalliber really knows what he's doing 👍great content, cant stop watching! Keep it up fellas
Allison fan since the beginning of time! Great video, I know it will give you years of service. Thanks for the behind-the-scenes look at a class act!
So many parts. I consider myself quite mechanically minded and have fixed most things myself but the internals of a auto is still largely a mystery.
that was cool, great job xcalliber and DG.. loved the allison animated stuff too 🍻
Its amazing they can do all of that work for that price. Alot of equipment used.

Great video very informative as always Rich @Deboss Garage

I'm leery when transmission ratings are given in HP instead of a torque rating.

6th comment! Would be first, but didn’t have a built Allison transmission to get me here in time
But only 5 gears...
Love your working on this finally
This truck is going to be sweet
All the performance shops are out by Danbury CT for some reason...

Very proper, good stuff!👍
I’m on the fence of eventually either dropping an Allison in my 05 common rail or just rebuild the 48re...what do you think?
Rebuild that 48re... Firepunk, Muldoon’s... they can handle plenty of power with the right parts
Our vote would be on doing the Allison swap. That is pretty much all we do, if you have any swap questions, feel free to give us a shout.
Keep going I love this build!!!
Excellent trans vid.
Need Allison for project vehicle of my own, have pump to mount on one for knuckleboom crane I have....

awesome build.
so could I bolt one straight to my 7.3? I found one from a dt444e so in theory it should work
Well, it attaches to a lot of engines that use the SAE No. 3 bell housing.
I believe the Allison 1000,2000 and 2400 have 4 or 5 different bell housing options.
you should use a np205 t-case instead of that aluminum junk
cast iron for the win 💪
