Bands That Sound Like METALLICA

- Today we're going to check out five bands that sound like METALLICA. Metallica is a legendary thrash metal band from California. They are part of the Big 4 of thrash and they are possibly the most known metal band on earth. James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich and Cliff Burton who was later replaced by Jason Newsted and Robert Trujillo has formed different lineups of this legendary band. So in todays video I'm going to share five bands with you that I think sound a bit like classic Metallica albums such as Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, And Justice For All and The Black Album. Enjoy!

Xentrix is so criminally underrated. Shattered Existence and For Whose Advantage? are absolutely amazing albums
yes, top class british thrash. cheers!
And they had their black album first!
Desperate remedies is my absolute fav
That Am I Blood track sounded like James Hatfield singing for mid-90s era Prong.
yeah pretty much.
Great choices! One of my biggest pet peeves as a Metal fan is people who stop at the basic big bands and don't explore more. I hope this video gets attention from Metallica fans and encourages them to dig underground!
that would be something.
I understand the sentiment as, for me, part of my enjoyment of music in general is discovering a new favourite band or album so the idea of only listening to only a handful of bands is alien to me. That said, I think people should be able to like what they like. Perhaps they don't have time to spend on the internet discovering new music. Maybe they're just not as invested as we are and that's alright.
Metallica is my favorite band but I have already dug rlly far underground. It’s ok to like big bands and still enjoy underground music.
I was just lazy for years, I didn’t start exploring underground music much till my 30s. Spotify was a big reason for this
American thrash metal band ‘Eternal Decision’. The song “overflow” from their self-titled debut album sounds pretty like James 80’s voice. Just listened a couple of weeks ago!
🤘
"Hunger" used to get renamed as a lost Metallica song back in the Napster days.
@@marctoad That debut album really sounds like Metallica.
Back in the day, I ended up downloading that whole self-titled album by Eternal Decision thinking it was an unreleased Metallica album. I was so convinced it was Metallica lol. Very decent album though, they sound a lot like Metallica with a bit of a Pantera influence on the music
@@joshcelliers4710 yeah , that’s true! it’s kind of thrash/groove with James vocals hehe
You are a human encyclopaedia! I’ve discovered so many bands from your channel. Thanks a lot.
Thanks boss! :)
To me, Am I Blood sounded like James singing over the top of Cuatro-era Flotsam & Jetsam.
To me, Mortal Sin sounded like something somewhere between Armored Saint and Wrathchild America.
Slammer seemed a little more Anthrax-y to me, but I can certainly hear the Metallica elements, too (I also vividly remember that album cover for some reason).
Great video. Thanks!
yeah Am I Blood certainly has that modern 90's tone to it.
Thanks for helping me to discover new older bands!
Cheers! 🤘
Evile!!! They are awesome. And checking out the others
happy halloween! 🎃
Thanks for compiling these bands!
thanks for watching. :) cheers!
Thank you for this video! It's nice to find these videos on YT, best recommend so far!
Thank you and cheers!
Awesome list, gon' check 'em all!
do it, cheers!
I think the Xentrix album that sounds most like Metallica is Shattered Existence. It's also my favorite.
yes, a great album for sure.
Great video! Good finds here on your part. Keep up the good work.
happy halloween! 🎃
Had not heard of any of these...TY so much...I have about 3700 physical cds of music...no burned copies..all store bought am ALWAYS looking to expand my collection!!!!!! ...peace
ah, that's wild. :) cheers!
All of these bands are awesome! Thanks for compiling this.
thank you!
Discovering these recommended bands' discography fills in the gap of the 80s Metallica we used to remember.
Cheers!
Cool video! 😎
Never heard of some of these bands before will check em out
Also just wanted to say about your Pantera ranking quite awhile back
I did check out the glam era (more) and well I was dead wrong about Power Metal
Wicked album that deserves more recognition
Best Phil vocally including all the albums after that
The harder thrasher bits also you can hear the transition in sound on the way
yes, media always pushes the shitty albums of bands. :D
Perfect timing, I've just recently started rediscovering Metallica 🥰
hehe, cheers!
Next video: Bands That Sound Like SLAYER
that will be the next video in the series actually. :) but the video is probably a month away.
@@RuthlessMetalYTSweet can't wait 🤘
Sounds Great!!
In all fairness, nobody can sound like or top Slayer
4arm had huge slayer vibes
Great playlist!🤘

I would add Testament to this list, they have this Metallica spirit in their music in my opinion
Yes, they are already on the playlist. ;)
thrash metal
band Psychosis sounds like testament
Specialy in PWYP
@@XxPixie604xXtrue
they took a hard split tho in the mid 90s from the metallica thing
As a Finn I'm shocked that I haven't heard of Am I Blood before. Thanks for that, I have now one more band to check out!
Yeah, it's bad when Swedes teach you about Finnish metal. ;) Not good.. hehe
@@RuthlessMetalYT Well yeah. But then again they have been under the radar and aren't as known as Stone or even Airdash. I think pretty much every Finnish metalhead knows Stone, as we should.
Yeah Stone seems to be huge in Finland but not many Swedish metal fans know of 'em. Am I Blood is also a 90's band so they were late to the party.
Hell yeah, exatcly what I've been searching for! *subscribed!
thanks and welcome!
You dive deep my brother! Only 2 bands I've heard of are Xentrix and Evile... but that Am I Blood singer sounds exactly like James. Also Slammer slams! Gonna have to check out more of their stuff... awesome vid as usual!
thanks boss! Cheers!
As soon as I saw the video title I immediately thought of "Mortal Sin - Face of Despair" it definitely has early Metallica vibes, vocally and musically.
yes sir! cheers!
Still an awesome album tho 👌
Xentrix is the first band, that came into my mind.
cheers
Nice video! For some reason during the Mortal Sin song I started to think about Slammer and... BAM!... here's Slammer! 😄
I remember buying The Work of Idle Hands on vinyl back in 89/90. To quote The Horror Geek: "Christ I'm old!" The track Gods' Prey sounded especially tasty to my then relatively young ears. I might not be as much into thrash these days, but I'm listening to it as I write this and it's still chuggy and suitably heavy.
yeah, good 'ol british thrash. :)
Slammer, Xentrix and Mortal Sin were always very similar.

I’m watching and enjoying your videos as always…
It's just an idea but if it is possible one day and you want to do it of course, could you make a video on the most important producers of thrash metal, for example Harris Johns and Flemming Rasmussen please ?
I might. :)
Interesting video experiment! You did a nice research with these four or five bands 😊 I would suggest to do one such as: Bands that sound like Queensryche or Helloween 😂 ❤
we'll see what the future holds. :)
That would be really nice! Especially Queensryche for me, as I'm a huge fan of their classic albums (and a lot of the recent stuff as well). It's strange when I think about it now, but I've never really searched for similar sounding bands - at least not actively. I'm hoping there are some undiscovered gems floating around out there - or maybe just some slightly more obvious stuff I've just managed to miss. 😄
fates warning sounds like that
fates warning sounds like them
Thanks for this!
thanks Cheers!
You can also list the band "Perzonal War". Listen to the song "Never look back" for example.
Cheers!
Fantastic video and selection !! some reeallly sound like James ...
Cheers!
soon as I saw this on my feed I though Xentrix and Mortal Sin...both there...dude knows his stuff, cheers
thanks boss, cheers!
I was hoping Am I Blood would come up. I know them from the "10 Years Nuclear Blast" compilation where also Rostock Vampires showed some Metallica likeness.
cool. :)
Thanx for introducing me to these awesome bands! I've been obsessed with Metallica for over 35 years so it's no wonder I dig all of these bands.
thanks!
I love Xentrix! Played and transcribed so many of their songs!
Cheers! 🤘
Any chance you transcribe the main riff of desperate remedies
do you have balance of power, crimes or dark enemy transcribed?
This video made me chuckle. Was not aware of any of the bands presented by all singers sound like Hetfield.
Cheers! 🤘
I would like Metallica to sound like Metallica! 😂
that won't happen. ;)
They tried about 15 years ago. Weren't successful.
It's no way near Kill 'Em All, its badly produced, It sounds like a Foo Fighters album or something. No good songs on 72 seasons. While all songs on Kill 'em all are classics. It's not even up for discussion. @@HeathenDance
I've written 500 reviews, interviewed more than 100 metal bands, I have one of the biggest metal youtube channels. I owned the first thrash metal website in the world back in the 90's. So I'm not exactly new to metal. Go back to loudwire if you're into Slipknot and modern metal garbage like that. This is a real metal channel, not a kids channel. @@HeathenDance
@RuthlessMetalYT is this your honest opinion? Or are you trying to "look cool" in the comments?
Also, you had a disclaimer to keep comments civil. Are you sensitive? Do words typed affect your life?
If Metallica releases anything, "it's not MY Metallica." They can't win a comment section, but they are selling 400 dollar tickets to sold-out shows.
I loved the first 4 albums, just like everyone else. But not everything they've released since has been garbage. That's just lazy and or jealously.
You don't seem to mind making money/content off of THEIR art/name.
Dude, PARADOX (GER) with their debut "Product Of Imagination" would slay all your picks, give it a listen asap!
yes, i Own it and it's cool. Cheers!
a band that sounded like And justice for all Metallica era was ; Heathen. i have their second or 1st album i think 🤘anyway great video
yeah kinda. Cheers! 🤘
Fuck yes Mortal Sin! Cool video.
thanks boss
I think Heathen can be here too, their masterpiece of an album Victims of Deception is what the succesor of And Justice for All should have been if Metallica stayed in thrash, moving their sound forward into even more technical compositions instead of the path they went with the Black album
Heathen are on the playlist already. ;)
Heathen's album is heavy oriented, and Justice for All has very crisp technical sound, in little way this is similar!
Vendetta, Paradox and Artillery came spontaneously to my mind.. I remember back then they were considered the German /Danish Metallica..
all on the playlist. cheers!
@@RuthlessMetalYT Heathen's second album- Victims of Deception- even though, vocally they sound different, the riffs and song structures sound like a better produced ...And Justice For All. I love both these albums. Stay awesome, Mr Ruthless Metal, sir.
yeah they are on the playlist. ;) @@ademitchell2251
Mortal Sin has similar sound to Metallica but their production still has that RAW metal sound and feeling that most bands seem to not understand. I was thinking about them a lot lately and could not fuxking remember their name haha. Thanks man!
Cheers!
Another band that comes to mind is Meliah Rage, both musically and when it comes to vocal style.
yes I added them to the playlist!
@@RuthlessMetalYT Great 😊
Great video...
thanks boss.
@@RuthlessMetalYT 😄👍
Awesome list. Is it just me or does the guy on the Xentrix album cover look a little like Load era Jason Newsted?
haha kinda. Cheers!
Early BFMV sounds quite 'Tallica-inspired in terms of mastering and some voice techniques. Eye of the Storm, The End of Days are great examples, besides they have great covers of Creeping Death and Sanitarium
Cheers! 🤘
I checked out Am I Blood and Slammer.
Am I Blood reminds me of Rob Zombie, vocally. It's like a Hetfield sound sang in a Zombie feel.
Also, Slammer reminds me more of Testament than Metallica.
yeah, testament ain't that far away from metallica either. cheers!
What!! Never heard about this band..METALLICA!! But man, i will check them out after hearing this! Skål!!
do it. ;)
Evile is one of my favorite band ❤. Infected Nation is my favorite album 🤩.
cheers!
I remember Xentrix back in the day. I was like WHAT?.
Really good.
Evile is another one. 🤘
cheerios! 🤘
Good list. I felt it's missing German band Perzonal War
cheers!
I agree with those 5 bands. Am I blood’s ‘The Truth Inside the Dying Sun’ album is probably the closest you can get from the Black Album. I would add Holocaust/Darcane/Mind-a-Stray (they changed name many times) from Finland. In the late 90’ early 2000’s their song Valley of Misery was mistaken for a new Metallica song. Very good one. Finally, i would add a practically unknown UK band (mostly a one man show ) Born of Ire. The vocal doesn’t sound like Hetfield, but some songs are pure old school Metallica.
Cheers!
will u do top 10 heavy metal album from the 80s next plz
would be something. :) happy halloween! 🎃
I always thought 'Stone' (Finland?) was a great version of early M.
yes for sure! I added them to the playlist
Another recommended band is Eternal Decision in their first self-titled album from 1997, which is like a child between the Black album and Pantera Vulgar Display of Power and Am I Blood's 2005 album The Truth Inside The Dying Sun is very good too
yes, already on the playlist. ;)
If a band sounds like the “ Kill Em All “ album - great !
Cheers!
Check out EVIL ARMY...the music is a faster version of kill em all style with more HC punk injections
On their Icon album Paradise Lost sounded like Justice era Metallica
I added them to the playlist.
Only the singer, music is totally different
Bro have you checked the album Lost In Wonderland by Nuclear Simphony? it's ultra underrated album which contains cool riffs and guitar sound. the vocal reminds me to the early Testament and the riffs feel like Forbidden & Violence blended together
Thing that I like is I have a riff that I created that sounds exactly like one of the song titled "Lustful For Disaster" near the outro riff. I made that riff before I knew this band so it felt so strange yet eerie when I heard that song for the first time as if I had time traveled to 1989 lol
yes, heard them a long time ago but I can't say that I remember much about their sound.
Check out a band called Ancesttral. Great band and they are definitely inspired by Metallica (especially the singer, who also has a Metallica cover band as a hobbie).
Songs that I recommend to give a listen are:
- Bloodshed and Violence
- Trust
- What Will You Do?
- We Kill
- Helleluiah
- Demolition Man
Cheers
There was this band named Onslaught and the album is search of sanity. At least this album sounded very like the master of puppets same formula guitars etc except vocal was different but good album indeed overall
yeah the vocals very different though. ;)
Thank you for intruducing us these bands
Cheers!
Can you do an anvil rank em all?
too many albums. ;) haha
Puppets came out when I was 16 and Justice when I was 19....My oldest son was in the car with me and he had a Trivium CD in the player (this may have been 10 years ago or so) and im not sure what song he was listening to but it sounded exactly like 'One'. The beat was the same speed and the guitars sounded just the same and it was the "Darkness Imprisoning Me" part. Now both my boys are well aware who Metallica are as I use to play all the metal stuff in the house since they were born (oldest was born in 91 and the youngest was born in 95) and somehow my oldest didnt make the connection right away. He backed the CD up and I started singing the "Darkness, imprisoning me All that I see, absolute horror" over top of Trivium and he just gave me a shocked look....lol
Trivium sounds kinda ass though. ;) Cheers!
Dude on the Xentrix cover looks like Modern day Jason Newstead.
hehe :D Cheers!
Tack för tipset St.Mucus nära på bättre än a.i.b.🤘😎🤘
hehe
What's the name of the song in the intro? It was really cool :3
arachnid 1992 demo. happy halloween! 🎃
Eternal Decision could definitely fit this list 🤘
Cheers!
I was a huge thrash head in the mid to late eighties. In fact my knickname became thrash lol. Always fun to hear obscure metal.
hello there thrash! cheers!
These bands sound interesting. I could think they're like these "additional Metallica material"; if one could want more thrash Metallica in some way, then these bands could provide that.
I heard a little of Evile before, but never got to listen to any of their material. Now with this, I could check them out.
do it! Cheers!
First band that came to mind was Sacred Reich, glad RM agrees with me since they're on the playlist.
yeah, they have a bit of a similarity to Metallica.
Not really! SR had a more punk influence and their style was closer to bands like Exodus. Though on The American Way they sounded closer to Metallica tbh. Testament would be my first pick
I would add Beatallica to this list xD
cheers!
Do a rank em all for death metal legends morbid angel!
who? ;) naah, I'm not that much into death. cheers!
Evile if they were not on list I was going to suggest them. Have a few of their albums.
cheers
I had noticed it years ago with Mortal Sin. I thought I was the only one
cheers
everyone noticed...
I don't know if i'm the only one who hears it that way but, as far as riffs and guitar tone go, i think Heathen's Victims Of Deception (1991) album sounds a lot like classic Metallica.
yes, it's already on the playlist. ;)
@@RuthlessMetalYT Gotta check it out!
here it is: open.spotify.com/playlist/3EX5cnQFKOyw40PHhAjdJE
@@RuthlessMetalYT Thanks man! Also great work. STAY HEAVY!
Rank em All of Razor? plz!
would be a cool one!
A great list, my friend
Thanks boss! 🤘
For whose advantage is so underrated and its soo good
cheers!
I've actually heard of most of these bands. Mortal Sin has some really good stuff.
Cheers!
Some stuff by early Trivium had sort of an 'updated' 'Tallica vibe
yeah, like metallica but even more suckier. :D Cheers!
Early meshuggah too
Cheers! 🤘
Slammer was my first thought 😁🤘🏻
cheers 🤘🏻
In Albuquerque, we have a band named Anesthesia that sound a lot like Metallica. They are awesome too.
Cheers!
Iced Earth also especially in their Stormrider album. Not Vocals but guitar is like Master of puppets
maybe a bit.
Bands that sound like Exodus!
nobody is that cool. ;)
Metallica 😂
allegiance from austrailia sound so good bit like metellica but cant wait to listen to all these sujesions thanks
yeah I agree with thtat. Cheers!
@@RuthlessMetalYT do bands that sound like megadeth next with the amazing unique guitar riffs and leads, and bands that sound like testament
it would almost be the same video. ;)@@danieldunstone6128
@@RuthlessMetalYT ye almost but megadeth has a more classical better leads more intricate leads and explored many different sounds testaments stayed the same
yeah, better skilled musicians perhaps but they are all kinda in that standard chug thrash. @@danieldunstone6128
I remember when i borough a cassette a band called slammer whoaa this band blows my mind! For me slammer sounds more like anthrax with Younger hetfield voice
❤ The band heavy riff
Cheers! 🤘
Am I Blood sounded like James' cover band
yup hehe. Cheers!
Meshuggah first album contradictions collapse sounds like and justice for all part 2
yes, not in the video but it's on the playlist already. ;)
I forgot to mention that the band Ritual Servant sounds similar to Metallica combined with Slayer. The vocals are also a combination of Hetfield and Araya. Their song The Sacrifice sounds like a mix of Metallica's 'The Thing That Should Not Be' and 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' and Slayer's 'South of Heaven'. Their song The Just also has the obvious influence of combining the Metallica and Slayer sound. They recently did a cover of Metallica's 'Creeping Death', which has a touch of Araya's vocals.
cheers
Man,, that am i blood is pretty heavy man,and i see what u mean about the whole sound
Cheers!
The Krixhjälters - Evilution (1989)
Apocalypse - Apocalypse (1987)
Wildhunt - Descending (2016)
cheers
You should make a " bands that sounds like Anthrax "
Cheers!
I am thinking about a swedish band called Hostilia. They don’t really sound like Metallica. But you can definitely hear some big similarities with how Hostilia is playing and how Metallica is playing.
The song "Blood on the Sand" by the band Blacklist from the UK, also reminds me a lot of Metallica. The vocals are a little bit more aggressive than Hetfield. Blacklist also implements some blast beats and stuff like that. But the guitar playing reminds me a lot of old school Metallica.
The same thing about a song like “Good Ol’ Fashioned Violence” by my friends in Thrasherwolf. It doesn’t really sound like Metallica that much. But there are certain things that remind me of Metallica a lot.
I would say that they don’t really sound like old school Metallica. But if you really like old school Metallica, then you would pretty much be guaranteed to like these bands. If that makes sense.
happy halloween! 🎃
The Japanese thrash metal band Anthem positively rules. Shortly after I got into Metallica I was introduced to them guys and I fell in love.
already on the playlist, cheers.1
I liked Slammer a lot. Thanks
cheers!
