  • In todays video I'm going to rank Sepultura's full discography. Sepultura is a Brazilian extreme metal band and the most successful South American metal band of all time. Albums like Beneath the Remains, Arise, Chaos A.D. and Roots made them superstars but in the 90's Sepultura modified their sound and Max Cavalera left the band after 1996's Roots and then the bands popularity faded a bit. But Andreas Kisser and Paulo Jr. has kept the band going ever since. While the cavalera bros have been busy with projects like Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy. So today we're going to rank all Sepultura albums, from the worst stinker to the greatest masterpiece. Enjoy!

Excellent! I am old enough to have bought Morbid Visions when it first arrived in the states, and remember how incredibly awesome and unique this Brazilian band sounded. I became an immediate fan, and even hung out with them for a bit at a show in Chicago. Also, great job putting the underrated Schizophrenia in the top 4 where it belongs. And while I think Arise has the bands finest couple of moments, as a whole it's not as strong as BTR, which is epic from start to finish. Also, you are spot-on with Chaos A.D., which was their last really strong album before they started changing their sound and lineup.

In general, there are 2 people who criticizes Sepultura later albums: 1- the one who dislike the more modern/nu/hardcore/groove influences
2- people who think max alone own the band.
They both flaw in many ways.
I agree that the golden age of Sepultura are between the late 80’s and mid 90’s, but Sepultura is a band that always change their style and formation, and Andreas for example, is one of the most underrated riffmakers of all time. “Quadra” and “machine messiah” are both solid albuns, and other works of their late material like “against”, “mediator” or “dante XXI” too. Good riffs, musical estructure, experiments, heavyness... In fact, there are “legendary” albums of the band like morbid visions for example that has a lot of flaws, even if is a important album for extreme metal. I respect people who disagree with me,i don’t wanna force my opinions on anyone, but if you throw away the “tr00 metal” shit that people have (who think every modern metal sucks, just because you’re too old to understand that things change, and pay a eternal homage to the 80’s) and the Max idolatry you can listen to a couple of real good metal albums, and even great pearls for a veteran band that always evolving. I mean, people should open their minds.
Ps: i agree that nation sucks. Is their worst effort so far.

Guilherme Ptp Morbid Vision has a lot of flaws, because because they had a low budget, basic equipment and youngest age. But in 1986, no have bands with the gutural vocals and heavy lyrics beyond the possessed

    • @guilhermeptp3954
      @guilhermeptp3954 2 роки тому +1

@@weskleydavid710 yeah, i know the history behind it. It’s possible to see a lot of inspiration of the german school on what Sepultura did. Destruction and Kreator are probably the main influences (i think that pleasure to kill is the major influence, side with possessed, of the birth of death metal) Sure that is an album that pionner extreme metal (even that i think many brazilian bands of the same age, like mutilator, dorsal atlantica or sarcófago did the same type of raw sound and didn’t have the same opportunity to be a global sucesseful band).

    • @RuthlessMetalYT
      @RuthlessMetalYT  2 роки тому +1

yeah, I don't think that Max would have saved them from their decline though, since the decline started when he was already in the band. Some bands are just too experimental that they lose their way, which I think is the case with Sepultura. Cheers!

I like Roots but it's a gotta-be-in-the-mood-for-it album. Max's lyrics and vocal performance on it is so anguished and visceral. It is cool they took chances and they were one of the first onto the nu metal scene and showed others how it was done rather than following a trend. But they should have changed the band name once Derrick Green joined - the difference between him and Max is just too jarring and totally changed the vibe of the band and I don't care for it.

@@RuthlessMetalYT I can understand why you would shy away from such an immense library. I also get Saxon isn’t a band I would describe as ruthless metal. What I will say is this, you are so spot on when it comes to music. Such an underrated band as Saxon would immensely benefit from someone like yourself pulling back the curtains for the unfortunate people who haven’t heard it! I completely realize that Saxon has plenty of crappy songs and a few crappy albums, but what I don’t feel is debatable is they also have some solid gold! The reason for asking for Saxon is I so often here you speaking of the progression of different styles of music, you already know Saxon has had its hand in influencing so many bands it’s not even funny! Songs like Dallas 1pm, Motorcycle Man, Heavy Metal Thunder, Midnight Rider, just to name a few! With your platform you could introduce those gems to the masses! I’m into Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Venom, Exodus, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metal Church, DRI, just to name a few. The idea of not having heard Saxon is lame! I seen Saxon open for Judas Priest for the first time a couple years ago. Holy shit those geezers still get it on!!! I will not comment on Current Judas Priest, I used to absolutely love them. Anyways, keep up the killer work brother!

Aqui estamos de volta para mais um rank, dessa vez, Sepultura!
1-Beneath the Remains and Arise (this two albums are masterpieces, and they are two among the best trash albums with total certainly)
2-Roots (what a genius album! The idea of getting a comp with metal and indigenous songs is just lit man 😉👌)
3-Kairos (and TOTALLY UNDERRATED album from the 2010's, and definitely the best from the Derrick Green era)
4-A-lex (another TOTALLY UNDERRATED album and another one of the best from Derrick Green era)
5-Against (a totally AWESOME album with a very good Energy and really cool musics 😎👍)
6-Chaos AD (an awesome "groove trash" album from the 90's that i love ALOT man)
7- Machine Messiah (another awesome album from the 2010's and another reason why I like Derrick Green)
8-Quadra (another more awesome album to save the diabolic year of 2020)
9- Schizophrenia, Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation (a trio of classics that started Sepultura really well, but idk, I'm not a big fan of it, but still, they still are good even to today 🙂👍)
10-Dante (even tough i don't like it Soo much, it is better than...)
11-Roorback (a album Soo unknown and soo irrelevant that i never heard it 🤷)
12-the mediator between hands and hands must be the heart (despite the really long name, this album not aged a bit well.
BUT, and that's a big BUT, the death cover from Zombie Ritual is AWESOME, but yep, that's it)
12-Sepulnation (well, Sepultura actually doesn't have bad albums to be honest, but sepulnation is really weak.
The sound is not attractive a bit to me, and the musics are not a bit creative, Soo yep, this is definitely a meh album 😑👎)

Just for short explanation, my mom had this album and other ones because she is a fan of metal, to be precise, a fan of Iron Maiden, Judas, Sepultura and even Sarcófago.
One day, at my anniversary of 15 years in 2017, he passed to me Roots, and I heard it all the day on my vinil player.
I love it, and after this, i discovered Iron and Judas, and after on, i became a fan of metal, later discovering and becoming fan of Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, Testament, Death, Suicidal Tendencias, Evile, and soo and sooooo on.

Well here is how it goes with Sepultura for me. As I got into them when I was in high school in the very early 90's. Over the years my favorite albums from them have changed. But honestly I really only like the Cavalara brother albums. I couldn't get much into the post Max era. I may try and check out their newer albums and see what they are like. But since Chaos A.D. which I love, they haven't wowed me since then.
Arise: No doubt my absolute favorite album from Sepultura, as it gets listened to by me quite often. And Desperate Cry is my favorite track form the album and the band in general.
Beneath The Remains: Like you said a fantastic and flawless record and every track hits hard. Slaves Of Pain is my favorite track on the album followed by probably Stronger Than Hate or the title track with the awesome acoustic intro.
Schizophrenia: A fantastic album and every song on it is great. Kind of tough to choose a favorite. But I would agree From The Past Comes The Storms and Inquisition Symphony as awesome tracks. And even the remade Troops Of Doom track is more brutal and polished.
Morbid Visions: Well kind of tough to pick a favorite on this album as it is to me like they were playing in a cave. And that is what to me sets this album apart from the rest.
Chaos A.D.: No doubt when I first heard Territory on my local rock station 100.3 KZRX Z-Rock. I rushed out to pick up the album on cassette at my local K-Mart and was bummed the cassette was messed up on a certain track. So I returned it and paid a little bit more and got it on CD. I love every track on this album and it still has the Arise vibe to it. Tough to pick a favorite as I enjoy listening to the album from beginning to end.
And that is it for me as after Chaos A.D. the band never much interested me much since. As I said I will try and check out their more current albums and see what I get from them.

You should react to the Cavalera Conspiracy 4 records, its more like old Sepultura, especially the last record: Psychosis. Soulfly also has better albums, the return of death/thrash metal from the Dark Ages album to the last one, Totem, which is perhaps one of the best Soulfly albums, because it has a lot of old school of early Sepultura, with Floridian death metal guitars

even if its nu metal who cares its a good album the tribal rhythms the vocals filled with so much hate the groovy bouncy riffs its one of the best sepultura albums in my opinion

I think Dictatorshit in roots it's a great song, I always think bands like Hatebreed inspired themself in this song... Only my opinion.

I bought roots and against when they were newish. Roots was ok at the time, was fun to get stoned and listen to when i was 14 with all the weird stuff. But now the only song i can even recall is roots lol. Against had like 1 song i liked. Totally gave up on em after that. But i see you rated a couple new ones decently so maybe i will check those out

Decent for being Sepultura, most new thrash bands put out more interesting material in my opinion. Cheers!

I was fortunate enough to see Sepultura live several times during their prime, in the early/mid90s. Each show was energetic and a great performance. I only consider the band to be Sepultura with Max, after that I don't care for them, but I am a huge fan of the Max era.
6 Morbid Visions - too raw to be listenable
5 Schizophrenia - once again the production is so bad it nullifies any good songs
4 Roots - while the entire album isn't the best, it does still have some amazing songs
3 Chaos A.D. - I love all the new elements the band added, this is such a great album
2 Arise - this could easily be #1, every song just flows together effortlessly
1 Beneath The Remains - the first album I got from Sepultura, it still has some leftover rawness from the early days that translates so well with decent production and matured songwriting

I never saw them, Soulfly was booked in my hometown but they cancelled due to missing a flight or something. must have been the late 90's. Cheers!
