Books do matter: There are countless scenes in the movies where characters use spells without saying them. In the 6th book, Snape is teaching the class how to do that. Snape even says that if you’re good enough at a spell, you could do it without a wand.

Something I hate about Jeremy’s “wandless magic” sin is the fact that in the very first movie, Harry uses magic, WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING MAGIC IS A THING LET ALONE HAVING A WAND, to remove the glass of a snake’s enclosure. It’s literally at the beginning of the very first movie, and Jeremy questions the fact it’s done.

The thing is, young witches and wizards before age 11 could use magic without a wand without realizing it. Not to mention, McLaggen is literally characterized as a douchebag in both the movies and book. For example, in the book after he failed the quidditch tryouts and demanded that Harry give him a rematch, Harry refused and he thought that McLaggen was going to punch him because of how angry he looked. And the reason Hermione casted confundus on him was because she overheard him insulting Ron and Ginny. And during Slughorn’s party, all McLaggen did when Hermione was his date was boast about himself, his quidditch abilities, and make very forward romantic advances towards Hermione, causing her to avoid him for the rest of the night.
Then again, considering how much Jeremy has been sexualizing Hermione throughout the entire series, it’s not surprising that he thinks she’d be genuinely interested in McLaggen because he’s ‘attractive.’

The point about Mr handsome wanting Ron to introduce him to Hermione--one of the best ways to get to know someone better and try to date them would be to have a trusted friend introduce you, spend time with them, get closer and then ask them out. Seems like a better tactic than cornering her in the hallway and asking her out which is likely to be rejected. She doesn't know who you are and doesn't seem like the kind of girl who is going to be flattered/interested by randos asking for a date. The other thing it illustrates is that Ron is jealous when another guy is interested in her, brings out his insecurities and makes him see her in another light. Puts some pressure on him to make a move and brings out the teenage angst that is a theme throughout this movie.

Exactly. When that was mentioned, I at first was looking away and was only listening to the video. I was curious, so I went back to actually watch that bit, and when Neville's pic popped up, I was all "Oh, hell yeah. Complete agreement with that."
He was such a nerdy, kinda plump kid, and he grew up to have a six-pack. The actor himself is god-damn hot, and the Neville character quite possibly grew the most out of every other character in the franchise. Next to Sirius, Neville was my favorite character. I grew to like Sirius relatively quickly, because I loved how he was a living connection to Harry's past, and his death destroyed me. I didn't have much of an opinion of Neville at first, but he seriously grew on me, and I was so proud of him in The Deathly Hallows. My boy went from a nerdy bullied kid to the fucking leader of a resistance faction!

I like to think I'm capable of determining myself why I like certain things in a movie/game and why I hate others. Slughorn is also established to be vain, taking an interest in people with potential and wanting to be someone who helped them fulfil it so as to have and provide connections. That’s what the group referred to as the Slug Club is about. He’s not prejudiced by blood status or socioeconomic background, as he brings Ginny (a member of the lower social class Weasley family, a point Malfoy raised about Ron thinking Harry was as snobbish as he was) into the group after seeing her perform a remarkable bat bogey hex. It’s no surprise he has photos of his connections up. The reason Dumbledore recruits Slughorn is because he used Harry as a sweetener. Slughorn is like a nicer version of Lockhart and Snape, a Slytherin potions teacher with vanity but is a genuinely good teacher unbiased by inter-house dynamics. He doesn’t even single Harry out because Harry is Harry, but because of Harry’s perceived aptitude at the subject.

  • @bloodyneptune
    @bloodyneptune 2 роки тому +17

The vanishing cabinet was introduced in the _second_ movie/book, Harry hid in it from Draco and his father in B&B, and the matching one was mentioned later when Nearly Headless Nick dropped it to make a diversion for Harry, which is what broke it. In OotP Fred and George trap another student in the broken Hogwarts one, and that event is what catches Malfoy onto it being a passage to the one in B&B if its fixed. They didn't just 'invent something as needed', and its why the books matter

Not only that, but it would need six months to stew before it was ready to consume.
Plus. if you take too much it can cause giddiness, recklessness, and dangerous overconfidence. As demonstrated with THIS movie, when Harry took that small vial, he got distracted and nearly failed getting the memory from Slughorn.
Plus, the Ministry for a while didn't believe Harry and thought it was pointless to use time turners or make Liquid Luck is large amounts. By the time they realized that Harry was right, the Time Turners were destroyed when the Death Eaters fought Harry and his friends at the Ministry in Book 5.

you know the dumbest part of Jeremys "the books dont matter" stuff?, he claims hes satirizing overly nitpicking nerds, but if that was the actual character he was playing he would be "um actually"ing every tiny insignificant detail thats different from the books, he could make this actual satire and his padding the sin count with tiny things would work because its part of the character

TLDR; Pretty much, Grindelwald is having a hissy fit because he want that Dumble-dussy
I mean...you're not wrong tbh, but also Grindelwald formed their relationship with Dumbledore through locating the deathly hallows and revealing the wizarding world to the muggle world so they wouldn't have to live in secret (because Rowling is nothing but on the nose with gay relationships), they broke up (more or less) because Grindelwald wanted the wizards to rule over the muggles. It's kinda like how at the beginning of a relationship you go out with your partner and party and go on lots of dates, but as the relationship falls apart you slowly stop doing these things. Then you start doing it again after the break up to try to get over the end of the relationship and that person. Basically Grindelwald's rebound is world domination and mass murder. But I mean we've all been there...right?

10:32 Slughorn’s line says it’s very difficult and getting it wrong means serious consequences. It’s a high risk high reward potion and even the direction you stir the potion in is known to affect the final product. I’d trust a potions teacher on what’s tricky to make, and that it was made is a show don’t tell for Slughorn’s skill level. It’s like that poison fish, if not prepared exactly right it’s deadly. Heck, we’ve seen a tricky to make potion in action with the Polyjuice Potion in Chamber of Secrets, it needed a month to brew, was hideously technical and required ingredients only available in Snape’s private stores.
No doubt the Ministry would have prevented mass production of potions like Felix Felicious. What potions like this, Veritaserum and Polyjuice can do while useful would be dangerous in the wrong hands. The book demonstrates Polyjuice being misused, and it was used by a criminal to stay undercover at Hogwarts in Goblet of Fire. Love potions are considered legal but Dumbledore desires to keep them out of Hogwarts, something Fred and George planned around. The sequence when Ron consumes the expired love potion from the chocolate cauldrons shows how potent they can be, and love potion as a date rape drug is how Tom Riddle Jr was conceived, his mother left homeless and heartbroken abandoning him to a muggle orphanage.

He has so much first hand knowledge of it that he realizes “Not only is this not real blood from a real murder, but I also recognize this as Dragon’s blood, so someone is staging a murder here and probably using the (likely) potion ingredient they had on hand as a prop”

Really enjoy your videos, can't wait for the next two. Deathly Hallows P2 is my favorite of the movies, up there with Order of the Phoenix and Prisoner of Azkaban, so I can't wait to see that. Although HBP isn't my favorite book or movie, I do still enjoy reading it occasionally. I'm not a huge fan of the Voldemort backstory, mainly because it makes re-reading it take forever and I'm more concerned about what's happening in the present. Sure, the first time through, it's great for understanding Voldemort as a person (which sounds weird), but once you know his backstory it just takes up so much time. My favorite book, Order of the Phoenix has this problem a little too, mainly with Grawp, but aside from that I don't have a problem with the length of the Order because every second of it I'm waiting until the end when Umbridge gets kicked out.
Amazingly, despite being the Potterhead that I am, I'm still learning things about the HP universe that I didn't already know. Magic without wands, wands directing a wizard's power, Accio working only on inanimate objects, are all things I've learned because of watching you. Keep up the good work.
I don't even watch CinemaSins anymore, because half of the time they fail to point out the flaws that are actually in the movie, and make this bs instead. If you're gonna critique a film, actually critique it. Don't pretend just for views, because then you skew your viewer's memories of the film to think it's way worse than it actually is.
