    To be honest, we INTJs are not that "highly" intelligent. It's just that, we just get curious really quick, which leads to us critically analyzing and studying things we are curious about, which then leads to us understanding those things. We can also present the things we study critically in a clear, organized, and smart manner, which gives people the impression that we are geniuses, which is often not.

      Shhhhhh dont give away the secrets ;) you're right though, my iq is only 110 barely above average, but people are always impressed by all the things I know about, because 99% of my thoughts are questions that i'm trying to find answers to. My family thinks I'm the next Neil Degrasse Tyson. Lol iq definitely isn't everything but I'm sure it helps.

    When people say (to me as an INTJ): "Is something wrong?" or "You're always so serious" or even "Why do you never smile?"
    When I'm literally doing nothing, just standing there or minding my own business. No negative emotions at all, I'm just doing whatever needs to be done

    I'm an INTJ and my girlfriend is an INFJ, she once said to me "Don't worry, you can analyze for both and I can feel for both", I really will marry her.
    Update: Sorry guys. We didn't marry. My job dragged me around the world to different countries, and she was still in collage, she wanted to quit to be with me and I forbid it, so she could finish her carreer. Now she is a doctor. I lost her, but I think I did the right thing, sometimes I doubt it however.

    Most INTJ don't show their emotion during the first time they meet people because we don't want to show our soft side. Hiding your emotions is like hiding your appearance against a potential enemy. I'm not saying that INTJ always act like that but sometimes pretending to be a cold person makes you know which people you can trust. I like people who can understand my crazy ideas and able to give me a good suggestion about it. As an INTJ I have difficulties in communicating my ideas. A friend who can understand me without asking to much is a valuable gift for me.

      Me too, I'm INFJ... I kinda face the similar problems like you (but my dominant function is Feeling, either you, an INTJ is Thinking). Everytime I walk around, surrounded by lots of people (including family), the truth is, I cannot being satisfied deep inside, I must put this emotionless and cold-hearted facial expression, so they wouldn't know what's hidden through my mind, at least forced themselves read my whole brain schemes (duh). Meanwhile, they do not want listening carefully every philosophical idea, every heavy talk (worldwide issues or something shows an enormous correlation with science/literature/history/etc) that I firmly believe it would be my ONLY 100% needs. Until I lived now, I'm not be able find a friend who wish sharing same interests nor ideas as mine. Behind my back, they often complaining me because I love stay tuned on Natgeo, Discovery, also Animal Planet (that's no more than particular entertainment I've got, plus it pleased me much). Huhhh, it's hard, dude!

    I am an INTJ male and my wife of 7 years is an INFJ. We are great together. Pros and cons:
    Some Pros:
    1.) We both love to be at home together more than anywhere else on planet Earth.
    2.) We both love to talk deeply together for long periods of time about things that interest us.
    3.) We are both EXTREMELY loyal to each other. As an INTJ, I consider finding a suitable wife a goal that has been accomplished and requires no further attention.
    4.) We both understand firmly in each other the need to escape from annoying busy social situations. When one of us is uncomfortable, the other knows why and empathizes.
    No relationship is perfect, so here are some cons:
    1.) I like to talk about my interests a lot, not really so great at the "listening to her interests" sometimes, unless they interest me - she is a great listener. I am trying to be better at this.
    2.) My interests are very expensive, and I will stop at nothing until the goal has been reached. This has taxed the finances at times.
    3.) She needs more attention from me than I of her. I am perfectly content sitting for weeks in my studio. She is more fidgety and cabin-feverish and needs time with me outside of the house, which I can consider a distraction sometimes. It annoys me sometimes, but I have to remember that is what she needs. And 99.9% of the time, I enjoy the time out anyway....it's hard for me to switch though.
    Neutral:
    1.) She cares more about how other people feel than I do. This is both good and bad. Good in that I don't care at ALL about what people think of me, or us. I am way more secure with ourselves, where she can tend to think too much about what others might think of us. On the other hand, she is warmer with others and is better at understanding what they might want or need in a situation, whereas I am pretty unapproachable in those settings unless you want to talk about the exact thing that interests me.
    Overall:
    We are a great pairing and I love her very very much. I am thankful I found someone who understands me so much. We have great capacity to overcome our challenges together.

    Great video, Melody. It matches my own experiences as an INFJ with an INTJ best friend.
    Our friendship was a catalyst for mutual personal growth, and there's a natural comfort and understanding that goes deeper than INFJ-ENFP connections. INFJ-ENFP feels more like mutual curiosity and attraction, while INFJ-INTJ is an experience of deep empathy -- we're on the same wavelength thanks to dominant Ni.
    INFJ-INTJ can coexist in empathetic silence, or get into Ni-Ni riffing that feels like a mind meld. We INFJs also notice that INTJs are using Fi behind the scenes, and they notice we're using Ti. The mutual comfort and respect wouldn't exist if we thought INTJs were psychopaths, and they though we were idiots.

I wish I could tell you the story of how we met for it is stranger than fiction. Everything went perfectly without a glitch. To be succinct, I made him take the personality test before I even agreed to meet with him on our first date! I knew exactly what I was looking for in a man (INFJ, ENFJ, ENFP and ENTJ were the only types that interested me and I was focused). I was overjoyed to learn that he was an INFJ. We have been married for 9 years now, created an awesome ENTJ daughter together who is 5 years old and I am in awe with his commitment and dedication to our relationship. Its a pretty awesome thing, and no matter how silly i might find the INFJ sometimes... I never lose respect for them, they are very well intention people, and INFJs appreciate/have fun with the ideas a INTJ has instead of rebel... The unspoken, telepathic word thing is magical.

  • @SystemsThinkerCom
    @SystemsThinkerCom 9 років тому +36

    INTJ here. A few thoughts.
    I think the reason you don't have to perform with INTJ's is that we are freethinkers so we aren't that concerned with or judgmental about aspects of people we find superficial. We are more worried about the substantial things.
    I think many of us actually care a lot about relationships and will invest quite a bit in the important ones. But we are just very selective about which ones become important because it takes too much energy to invest in too many of them deeply.
    I agree INTJ's are very strategic and strong at following through with plans.

    INTJs are confident... about how right we are, about everything. To us, everything is just a series of interconnected systems.
    We can see the end result of all actions provided we are sufficiently interested in said system, be it a job, a hobby or another person.
    Also not that we are mean, we just have two moods, obsessed or entirely uninterested. When we are uninterested, don't be surprised if we have no time for you.

My long-term partner is an INTP, which is fantastic for me as we both are very logic-driven and love intense conversations about politics, science, social justice, environmentalism, dystopian future. We are both anti-children/status quo but have very strong ethics/principles which are unwavering. I am extremely hungry for information to the point that in the past at university, I went for 3 days working on a project without eating/drinking as I was too busy studying and blacked out from exhaustion/dehydration. I MUST have alone time, most of the time to focus on learning and information gathering. When i'm with my INFJ friend, she balances me out and brings out my warmer side. We are both EXTREME introverts and are happy to see each other once every few months, which actually feels perfect. We both never pick up the phone and hate venturing out. When we do, we get lost in adventure/conversation for about 6-8 hours at least, then back into the cave again. Animals are my true companions, and books.

But there are so many great things about having an INTJ personality. I dont know about other INTJs but the most irritating thing for me is pretending to be enthusiastic about things I find so damn frivolous (like small talk conversation) It is exhausting! INTJ checking in!. I feel like INTJ and INFJ are very similar. I feel like INFJ are much more presentable than INTJ in initial social conversation because of your warm and friendliness on the outside. I agree like INTJ look kind of cold on the outside because we aren't that aware of our external senses. When we have that cold look, we are either confused, not interested, or we are just thinking about something at that moment (like about 70% of the time it's most likely we are thinking about something at that moment. Holy crap, I think a lot). Our minds tend to drift to another world sometimes haha. Yeah...our minds need to be stimulated. I also agree as an INTJ, I'm not cold on the inside. I do care about certain people in my group, but sometimes we just have a harder time to express our emotions and we want to express them to people who we trust and care. Yes... INTJ have feelings. We love to write things on paper, jot down notes, and form a list of stuff on paper beforehand too haha.

What I do really admire about them are that they're able to separate their thinking and feeling functions whenever we discuss any political/spiritual topics, not to mention their strategic mindsets that almost see everything like a puzzle or problem to be solved. They really do make some of the greatest friendships for an INFJ, especially when we can exchange/discuss different types of ideas (I wouldn't be surprised if that would set off a universe-destroying chain reaction, lol).

      My INTJ friend is one of the few people that I feel I can be completely myself around, and I think a lot of that comes from the fact that she doesn't need the kind of emotional support that a lot of my other friends do. I have been working on multi-million dollar corporate projects in a team of 30+ people in the same room and I always end up getting isolated because people don't understand how I know things and get very intimidated of me (especially the managers, program leaders, and other people of my same level!). It is in our nature to be independent, so the best thing I have found to deal with it is to fall back on the fact that I know i have a ton of ambition, and coupled with my knowledge, I will see opportunities that others don't and will get what I want in the end anyway.

Prior to that, I would try to make decisions based just on my feelings or Te and I would make mistakes but as soon as I realized that my Ni was TUNED IN to some force bigger than myself, I began to give it my full trust and attention and make all my decisions based on that. Many of us can be very childlike. It is that Ni-Fe idealism that we have in us, which resembles a child's idealism. But it is always in us. If you ever meet an INFJ child though... at least with me, at my healthiest I was always quite grounded in reality. My Ni was too refined and powerful to live in too much fictional fantasy, I desired truth and to live in accordance with the truth. I desired always to come back to reality. I realised that there was real hurt in the world, so I desired often and earnestly to come back to it. What I dived into was my Christian Faith. If only I had received early teaching in the matter of Doctrine, no telling how much of a useful tool my imagination could have proved to have been in the advancement of my Faith, and of hope, and of healing and reaching into the brokenness of the people that I came in contact with. For the real end of imagination is understanding of deep, rich, real, and true beautiful spiritual ideals, which in the Christian

      religion are understood as realities finding their actuality in God. It is no mere coincidence that the philosophical school referred to as Idealism is at many times and in many places considered virtually synonymous with a Christian philosophical perspective.
      I would have been able to do some real good as an “alien”, because of my Faith more than my personality, if I had a more fleshed out understanding of reality, better categories fed to me from an earlier age... Good solid Trinitarian Doctrine, ancient creeds, and beautiful liturgies. I'm an evangelical Christian, and have been since my rebirth when I was 5, about to turn 6.
      For Christian virtue, compassion, and love is informed by the deep doctrines of the Faith, for the central tenet of the Christian Faith, that God is Love (not that love is God, that is to make God something abstract, mushy, and relative, because then He would be made irrelevant) being made most clear, along with the nature and kind of that Love,

      in the Doctrine of the Trinity - that God is a Loving Relationship between Three Eternal Persons sharing One Essence before all time, the First Family - and the Doctrine of the Incarnation, because of which by Marriage to the Lamb, which is made possible by the self-giving sacrifice of Jesus, we are welcomed into that Eternal Relationship, this Eternal Family, which has existed before the beginning of the Universe. We are brought into the Family Business of that Family, which is the Business of Love, of healing, of forgiving, of redeeming, of reconciling, of peacemaking, of sacrificing self-interests and self-needs for the sake of other people. That's why Doctrine matters, and why I wish that more of my imagination had been put to that end - the contemplation of the Love of God - so that I would have been better able to understand how I myself am to be or at least present that Love to other people, so that I could have known better how to put it to use.

    Good observations that ring true in my experience. I am an INTJ and dated an INFJ for a couple of years. Our greatest disconnect was over emotions, she needed emotional information and I couldn't provide it unless asked. Even then it might take a couple of hours to develop an accurate description for precisely what I was feeling. We get along better since breaking up, and it's good not to have lost a friend. "The face", as my sister calls it, is also interesting. It takes the place of many expressions such as concern, fear, sadness, interest, anticipation, anger, concentration, or just sitting and thinking. The INTJs that I know are all very caring people and will go great lengths for the small groups of close friends that they make, people they respect or even strangers. They just probably won't mention that it was them. Thanks for digging below the surface.

    From what I remember Ni (Introverted Intuition) is logic outside of facts. Ni still has logic to it, just without all the necessary data to prove it's theory.
    Also the NTJs naturally robotic but still somewhat pluged into the world. It takes someone captivating enough to get the NTJ to invest in them long term. And NTJs are usually not impressed because our standards are high, but in that same breath we hold ourselves to the same standard we hold other's to.
    Even more so difficult the INTJ Vs the ENTJ because the INTJ is more focused on the world within one self while the ENTJ is focused on the world outside of one self. But that does not mean there cannot be a balance because ennagrams also can cause a shift in the percentages of preferences.
    The NTJs are seeking depth, in things and people, lack of depth is lack of their interests.

    As an INTJ, I treat people as a reflection of my own moral standards rather than how that person is acting. I really go out of my way to not make any decisions without emotional interference and I always try to stay level headed regardless of how I feel. I've never fit in and that is fine for the most part. The world is not made for people like us.

    Awesome take on INTJs from your perspective as an INFJ! I'm an INTJ and one of my best friends is an INFJ (female). Not necessarily having to talk to each other even if we're in the same room (she was my roommate for a year) is true for us. But when it comes to engaging in deep discussions, what I finally realize is that our dominant + auxiliary functions tend to complement one another & have significant roles in contributing to a discussion. As an INTJ, INFJs are interesting to be friends with. p/s: the resting bitch face part is true. i get that a lot. haha. but ever since then i make an effort to light up my facial expressions upon 1st meeting. :)

    Have known I was an INTJ for 5 years now. I find INFJ's infinitely interesting so I'm always trying to understand them. I only know 2 (1 male the other female) and one spoke w/ me about how the psychic mind works which I loved hearing about from an expert. I look forward to future videos.

    As INTJ, I can guarantee you that we’re are not emotionless people, I feel very strong emotions but there’s this disconnect between the feeling and the expression, I believe most of not all INTJs wants to be socially accepted and even popular, but we’re socially awkward are easily drained by people talking things with little reason to care about, and therefore we mostly prefers solitude. Commitment is something of great value to me, I therefore don’t invest on others or take risks easily, like what I’m about to do here; I apologize if I sound a bit egoistic, no means to offend anyone.

Writing down what your interests were was such a sweet, thoughtful idea! I'd love it if someone did that for me! Thanks again for the great information!

    I need to create structures in my mind so I can classify and categorize my relationships. Once, a few years ago, a friend asked my opinion about a certain aspect of her life. When I shared my thoughts with her, she said, "You are correct, but I feel so objectified."

    Wow! Glad to listen you, Miss Melody, I've recently read about INFJ personality type and I consider that it's the best personality for me, despite for INTJ like me other types are recommended (ENFP or ENTP) and I am happy to listen that a INFJ lady like you like INTJ personality, so that make me suppose that I'm not so lost in my way of thinking.

    I'm an INTJ and people feel comfortable around me because they know I either don't care about their attempts to impress me, or because they know I can see right through it and then will call them on their shit. I've had friends come see me after a while away and start to act the way they would around others (either being overly animated or acting a certain way), at which point I look over at them with a slightly judging face as to say, "Are you fucking kidding me?" Then they stop and we just relax. It's nice, actually. People come to me and ask me for advise on things that confuse them. The main problem is that they also get a little irritated that I like staying home, I hate going to social events with lots of people (concerts or crowds bug the ever-living shit out of me), and sometimes just don't reply to them straight away (or at all, though I'm trying to work on that). I just like my space and like being alone sometimes (sometimes a lot of the time). I don't know if they think I'm mad at them or they think I'm flaky. I constantly hear, "You never go out." and think to myself, "Yeah, it's amazing!"

    I am married to an INTJ. INTJs do pay A LOT of attention, if you are deemed worthy of their attention. They are extremely loyal and thoughtful friends.
    Totally, The Ni function as a lead function is often confusing for other types and is the rarest, so when it is encountered, is most likely somewhat unexpected.
    I personally know 5 INTJ women, (and 5 men, off the top of my head). -- which is a little insane given population numbers.

      L M Ok then Mr or Mrs stereotype. You do know MB is a spectrum and not set in concrete right? And you do know it's impossible that all people fit into 16 categories and there are bound to be people who fit more than type right?

    • @hainleysimpson1507
      @hainleysimpson1507 7 років тому +1

      L M Exactly. But this astrology is more fluid than people think. Think of it like ancient mbti. I see these things as lenses to see the world and myself through it helps me point out my own flaws and strengths and work on them. Each day i work on my big picture vision and perspective shift capabilities, never completely ruling something out without running it through my mind again and again. Quick question was school too easy for you as it is with me? I have also realized that the way in which the academic systems are set up and the way subject matter is taught 6/10 ten times is useless to us intj's since we are so rare.

    • @LM-hu3ix
      @LM-hu3ix 7 років тому +2

      hainley simpson Sure but astrology cannot predict anything that's the main issue I have with it, it simply doesn't work like that, to hold a mirror up to yourself OK but not too determine anything. In regards to school I like physics and maths and just good enough in other areas to get into a respectable university. Although I understand what you're mean "useless to us" because that's precisely what I think about English and I constantly complain about that such thing. So I do well in maths areas. Also am I an intp or intj do you think?

    • @hainleysimpson1507
      @hainleysimpson1507 7 років тому +1

      L M I know, it's impossible to predict the future, but you can predict a persons reactions if you watch them long enough. I don't like most things that are mainstream, there was a time when it was used to help people effectually, but like anything most humans touch it gets fucked up and shitty. Same thing happened to Christianity.

    As an INTJ blend with INFJ (but more INTJ) I think where we come across as cold, is when you have no acceptance with us, yet you act as though you do. We can't stand pretenders acting as though they're our best friends, because we know it's phony, and we may demonstrate that in a rather cold manner because we think you're fresh basically. I don't think we will automatically rule out a former pretender just because they were phony once, because we all make mistakes, but if our judgement is of any importance whatsoever with that person, they best not repeat such a thing with us, or at least wait until they have much more groundwork laid.

      I agree. I have only one person I consider a friend, but I'm rethinking it because she is becoming extremely frustrating to relate to. I like deep relationships and I'm discovering that she is shallower than I'd hoped, she flips out when I try to get deeper and I just don't see how the friendship can last. If I hadn't known her for ~12 years, where we had fun childhood adventures, I would have stopped trying already.
      Some (or most) are content with being mediocre and INTJs just aren't, I think that breaks a lot of our relationships.
