I lived in Jackson Tn back in the early 60s when I was little, only a couple of miles from the Kelly plant. When the wind was just right you could smell what they were cooking at the Kelleys.
Yes I grew up to it in Jackson, Tennessee. Heard daily on WDXI and WTJS radio stations. I Remember every word. Then later, I went to work for WDXI as my first radio job.
Produced by Noble Dury & Associates, then Nashville's leading ad agency. Probably written by Fred "Billy" Satterwhite who wrote most of their jingles. Because of their music business roots, there were a lot of jingles recorded in Nashville and Memphis (Pepper Tanner) for regional and national accounts back when most commercials had jingles and most TV shows had them too. You couldn't have grown up in the mid-south and not have had this jingle in your head. There is much more brogue in the singer's voice than I remember from childhood. A 60 second TV commercial sure seems long...
I wish I could find the color commercial that used to play in the mid 70s - had different lyrics - "Hey we're cooking at the Kelly's, cooking good things at the Kelly's, full of meaty eaty things that taste so good, good, good!"
I have been looking for this and hoping it would show up here. I grew up watching this ad on TV and eating Kelly's chili , beef stew, and tamales. The plant was in Jackson, TN just abt 20 min from home. Loved the sign in front of the plant- kettle with real steam.
The Old Country Store had bought the sign a few years back and had plans to refurbish it to put up there but it hasn't happened yet. I hope they didn't run into problems with getting it fixed.
If I could have made the grocery list when I was 5: Kelly's, Frosty Morn, Tennessee Pride, N-E-S-T-L-E-S, Beechnut Fruit Stripe gum, anything that had a cartoon tv commercial.
just bought a can of kelly chili at kroger in jackson, tn. the lable still list the address as airways blvd, jackson, tn. i grew up just a few miles away. kelly foods and martha white flour both had plants here, dad worked for martha whie. they were a big part of my life.
We spoofed the chorus of the jingle (product song) song in my youth as: Something’s cookin’ at the Kelly, “Something’s cookin’ at the Kelly, And it sure is-sa smelly, But it’s good, good, good!” (We mispronounced the 3rd line with a heavy Italian accent instead of an Irish one.)
Another TV jingle from Nashville childhood. It's so guileless about the very un-Irish canned tamales and spaghetti, but to this child back in the day it was indeed "good, good, good". All made in West TN, Jackson I believe. Anyone remember going to Erin TN on St Paddy's Day for the festival beef stew? Now that was really good, good, good!
I were trying to find the Kellys brand pork brains and gravy. This was a worthwhile staple at a family breakfast gathering when I was a child. I can't find it anywhere. NOR the chili, beef stew, hot dogs, or the sausages. Thanks for the memories tho!!! LIKE!
I grew up on Kelly's chili and tamales and stew. Even though I cook and can make great chili, Kelly's remains a guilty pleasure whenever I can find some.
Talk about stereotyping! My mother was of Irish catholic decent. And my woke snowflake side is outraged! Absolutely outraged! Gotta leave now. Going out to find other societal things that offends me and make a pest of myself. A glorious snowflake day!
A staple on Memphis TV when I was a child. The jingle just popped into my head today and sure enough, somebody had posted it. Thanks.
Yes! Same here. We loved that chili. Moved to Texas on late 60’s and never saw the chili nor the commercial, again. 😥😂☘️

I remember the factory in Jackson, Tennessee. I'm 61 and still have the jingle in my head. Good beef stew (compared to other canned stews, that is.)
I loved this commercial as a child. Thanks UA-cam for capturing memories like these.
This jingle has been going through my head on and off for 50-60 years.
Same here. I remember that this commercial was played right before news with Paul Harvey.
You can't get the thing outta yo head!

Listened to it in Memphis when I was a kid. It’s been in my head ever since.
My mom remembered this till years after they returned from a 4-year stay in the US in the 1960s!

This was one of my favorite commercials when I was a child.

Kelly's foods are made by Vietti in Nashville now. All I've seen though in recent years are chili and beef stew.
Every year around St. Patrick's Day I think of this commercial - and I always wondered what chili and tamales had to do with Ireland!
WELL! If you have to ask..... BTW what do chili and tamales and vienna sausages have to do with Eire?
How is spaghetti and meatballs an Irish recipe? I thought it was an Italian one!
Another neat product from the mid-south that is now just a memory. Seems most of things I grew up with in Memphis as child are forever gone.
You can get it at Kroger and SuperLo
Another thought: did Cousin Tunie on Jackson TN kiddie TV ever pitch for Kelly's products? I have a vague memory that she did. God bless Cousin Tunie!
Who doesn’t love a canned Irish tamale? Yum!
I miss Kelly's Potted Meat, it was the best!
Wow, I remember this from very early on in my childhood. Thanks for posting this!

Kelly's chili was excellent when I was a kid. I miss it.
Awesome. I knew I wasn't imagining this commercial from my youth.

One more thing about Cousin Tunie in Jackson TN: Yes sirree bobolink-o!
My childhood lol
I had the chili a few nights ago. I was GOOD GOOD GOOD! i'LL buy more. The cans haven't changed. Still look the same.
I remember this.
I remember this well

@robmarais You're right! The only Kelly product that could even REMOTELY be considered Irish, would be the Beef Stew.
thanks for posting.
I used to love the canned bbq when I was a kid
Loved the canned pork with barbecue sauce.
The best!
Is that the Mad Hatter?
I grew up on Kelly's chili and tamales and stew. Even though I cook and can make great chili, Kelly's remains a guilty pleasure whenever I can find some.
Huh. Who knew the Mad Hatter was Irish?
I wish they sold it in my area
How are tamales an Irish recipe?!
Emmmm good!
I'm a little kid again.
I'm trying to find the Irish tune for this? Sounds very familiar? Does anyone know the Irish tune this is from?
I loved the tamales BTW! =)
You heat me to it. They are good
0:03
Did they ever make potted meat?
Not sure. Sounds like it would have fit into their product line, tho.
One of my favorite jingles...ironically it has KKK at the beginning 😒😒😒
