    Just got a nice group,7. Different sizes. 20 long, sand substrate, lightly planted, couple of low hides, shells on order. My question is: is there any clean up crew I can add? Starting to develop some green dust algae (?) on plants, hides, heater, sponge. One small mystery snail is not making much headway. Thanks for doing what you do! I've learned a lot from you and Joanna!

    I don't know about Chicago (I grew up in Glenview), but the Petco $1/gallon sale is on in California. I think the time has come for my Caudopunk species tank. Today I placed my order for a 20 gallon long and got a nice deal on an Aquaclear 20 as well. I've been saving up medium sized rocks and will be using Caribsea Cichlid sand. I'm SUPER tempted to throw in some calvus with them, but worry eventually it won't work if the caudopunks start breeding. So I feel like I should just go pair like you recommend here. I even have names picked out - Clash and Ramona... punk bands (the Clash and the Ramones)... get it?!?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  4 роки тому +1

      Those names are too funny. Ya, I think you will be happy with a pair or small group in a 20. The Calvus will just eat all the babies.

    Weird that yours prefer the rocks. I had a mix of rocks and shells and ended up removing most of the rocks because I never saw mine using them. I just had some fry hatch yesterday. It’s kind of annoying because I was debating between a new saltwater tank and a grow out tank, but they hadn’t been breeding so I went with saltwater. Lol. Kind of regret it now.

    -- I'm thinking of using my cycled 55 tank for these super cool guys (caudopuncts)

    Will they hybridize with multis since they are the same genus?

    I've never kept cichlids. I'm intrigued by shell dwellers. Would these be good for a first time cichlids keeper?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  4 роки тому

      As long as your water parameters are stable (hard water with a pH around 8.0 is a good idea for them) and the tank is cycled they can be fun!

      I just checked my ph. 8.8!!!! Probably too high.

      Starting a shell dweller colony can be a bit pricey and somewhat hard to find depending on your area.

    How many can you keep in a 10 gallon (if any)?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  4 роки тому +1

      I think you may start having issues in a 10 gallon? You could try one breeding pair, but the fry would have to be removed shortly after.

      @@PrimeTimeAquatics I am a lazy fish keeper so I try to stick to stock that does well with my tap water, which is from the Mississippi. The good news is that Amazon river and Southeast Asian fish do great, and I can enjoy the African Cichlid footage like this on UA-cam.
