I had the same trouble and even sliced my thumb as it slipped around the edge. I eventually used a leather palmed work glove for grip. But you are correct: horrible design.
It is a very poor design. I finally wrapped a few rubber bands around my fingers (a rubber glove 🧤 will work too) and twist counter-clockwise to remove. Sometimes the grooves won’t hold the bulb in place so you might need a clip support or scotch tape. Definitely something to consider for the next range hood.

You make it look so easy. I was stuck in my kitchen range hood for an hour and still wasn't able to install the bulb. Lord have mercy! 🤦🏻♂️😩😭

What are you gripping to be able to do this? Mine doesn’t budge. It doesn’t press in. And it certainly won’t turn. Absolutely horrible design.

Had one break in a very narrow ceiling fan light, now others won’t but. Thanks for you glove idea, will try rubber dish 🧤

You've got your counterclockwise and clockwise reversed LOL
ted c absolutely not. Left counter, right as clock hands move. Ceiling fan seasonal direction change has similar process take note 👨🏾🏫
