    I have been living with a burned out bulb in my house for 3 years because I couldn't figure out how to get the burned one out. I wish I had thought to look for this sooner. Thanks for this video!! :)

      This is a suction cup to help remove the GU10 bulbs. Just attach, push in and turn the bulb counterclockwise and it will pop loose. Brand: Nora Lighting - Part No.: NRS90-N20 - Length: 2 in. - Width: 2 in. - Height: 1 in. Available at Amazon but there are others if you go online!

    It's hard to believe that changing a light bulb needs a video, but OMG these stupid GU10 bulbs are ridiculously "challenging." I felt foolish doing a google search on how to change them, but after breaking the bulb trying to take it out, THEN not getting the new bulb "clicked" fully into place so it fell out and broke, we were freaking desperate!! Great video. My husband is off buying yet *another* new bulb now and he'll be very happy when he gets home that I've gotten some decent insight into how to do something that *seems* so simple but isn't. Thanks for making this video!!

      Thanks! We DID get the new bulb in okay, with your help here, and the suggestion of someone to use surgical/exam gloves to help give a little "grip" as you turn the bulb. Sigh. Who would have ever thought such a simple seeming thing could be so hard! ;-)

    I thought this should have been a no-brainer to change one of these bulbs in my kitchen track lighting. Instead I could not get the new one in and the old one I managed to break at the base trying to get it out. In frustration I went to youtube and found your video. I tried it again and it worked just fine. I guess I just needed a bit of coaching! You are now my new handyman coach from now on. Thank you. iScaper1 Another help, if possible with your bulb, is to aim the bulb housing up in the air, so you are inserting the bulb down into the socket and don't have to hold it up in the air. Easier to seat. My ceiling fan has these lights, and they are adjustable.

    It's a miracle....to say that I am mechanically challenged is an understatement....I suspect my lack of patience is a strong factor to my mechanical incompetence. My 2-yr old kitchen track lighting had 4 out of 5 bulbs burned out....for 6 to 8 weeks. Last night, #4 went. I Googled a tutorial on changing MR16 GU10 bulbs. iScaper1 is the first and only one I viewed. Simple, straightforward with photos and instructions. I wore rubber sole sandals rather than stand on my metal step ladder...for sturdiness and to avoid slipping off the darn thing...also thought that might ground me if I screwed up with the electrical panel. I am here to say...with a bit of consternation...but perseverance....I DID IT !!! I must say, the 1st one fell out as I began to work on the 2nd ,,,but all 5 are now holding brand new Phillips bulbs..hopefully good for another 2 years. One of those little rubber do-dahs came with the fixture. Short finger nails and could not get that off lest I upset the installed bult. I have an ancient fondue fork that is good for all kinds of things around the house...stuck one fondue prong slightly under the do-dah off and back in the drawer...and yet another use for my fondue fork. I absolutely could not have completed this task without your great tutorial. I 'almost' feel like an adult....I am a happy camper. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

      Hi Liz. Thanks for watching and I'm glad the video was helpful. I was replacing the halogen bulbs at a rate of 1 or 2 per month. Plus the halogen bulbs run really hot. I was getting ready to replace the light fixture when I decided I would try the LED bulbs. The LED bulbs run much cooler and in 7 months I haven't replace one yet. Here's the bulbs I bought on Amazon if you want to try them out: www.amazon.com/s?k=AmazonBasics+50W+Equivalent%2C+Daylight%2C+Dimmable%2C+10%2C000+Hour+Lifetime%2C+MR16+%28GU10+base%29+LED+Light+Bulb+%7C+6-Pack&i=tools&ref=nb_sb_noss

    I'm trying to replace my burned out GU10 bulb and it's impossible to remove! The new bulb comes with a rubber suction that you're supposed to use to remove the old bulb, what a joke! A actually ended up breaking the bulb trying to remove it. The light has a big metal ring around it near the bottom so I can't get my fingers around the bulb to turn it, nor can I use a tool to grab it with. What a dumb design!!

    I've had the same problem removing a burned out bulb of this nature. The situation is compounded by the 'brilliantly' designed fixture which hides the edges of the bulb.
    Which damned idiot who designed these bulbs?!? Your best bet is to buy a fixture with an easy to change light bulb.

      some fixtures require you to insert the two posts then push up on the bulb, then rotate to the right about 90 degrees. The trick can be that it requires that 'push up' to be able to turn the bulb into the socket

    Why am I having such a hard time??? I can totally see where the posts are supposed to be inserted. I twist the bulbs (I have two of 5 to replace) into place - turn the light switch to 'ON" and....nothing!! What am I doing wrong?? I tried a different bulb...(same type) and tried the other socket...same problem. I cannot get either of them to work!!! The bulbs were just purchased today and I asked for assistance to make sure I was purchasing the correct ones. I am at a loss!

    • @Iscaper
      @Iscaper  8 років тому +1

      Be sure you're inserting the bulb into the larger opening in the slot then you'll need to twist the bulb clockwise around a 1/4 turn so that the posts on the bulb can touch the contacts in the smaller part of the opening in the base. It sounds like you're not twisting the bulb far enough. You may need to use inside out duct tape to help twist the bulb. Click the info icon on this video to see my "Trouble with track light bulbs" video. It might help.

    • @Iscaper

      I just had a bulb burn out that I can't get to rotate out also. I tried duct tape (inside out) on the front of the bulb and twisted so hard that the front lens came off and left the rest of the bulb. Then I tried stuffing duct tape inside the lens and twisting again, but that did nothing but breaking the bulb off. I'm going to try splitting the remaining outside lens with a small punch and see if I can twist the plastic base of the light bulb out with a small pair of pliers. I'll let you know if it works. Someone needs to rethink the design of this type of track lighting.

  • @davidshereda7885
    @davidshereda7885 3 місяці тому

    desperate to get the old bulb out on a tight fitting? do this - insert a flat edge on an outside edge of the bulb and pull down - this will break the little wires off from the bulb's ceramic base and the bulb will come down. Then you have to remove the actual GU10 base - use a needle nose pliers, grab one edge of it and twist counter clockwise. Now you have the entire bulb assembly out.

    you're are removing it the wrong way. you need 2 tools: 1 flat screw driver and a pair of needle nose pliers. turn the bulb to the left, pry on the edge of the bulb to remove it. it prying doesnt work, keep prying until the top glass covering comes right off (wear safety glasses). once the exterior bulb cover is removed, use the needle nose pliers to continue rotating and/or pull the bulb out of the socket. trying with my short finger nails was a bust but the 2 tools worked like a charm to finally get this 1month process done. i kinda put it on the back burner for a bit...

    I don't understand how that's the correct method, considering I have horizontal cuts along the side of my thumb and the lightbulb isn't any closer to coming out.
    I got up to try doing what he did with the bulb, among what other people said in the comments, and all I have to show it is nothing. The video shows him holding the bulb a certain way and it gleefully complies with him. Our bulbs just move like three 3mm clockwise and then laugh at you.

    Get GU10 LED Lamps, and you’ll probably never have to change them again. Just Carefully check the bulb specifications, as some of the GU10 LED’s are a bit taller.

  • @DebM-i6y
    @DebM-i6y Рік тому

    We always knew the theory of changing these stupid bulbs, but the issue is getting hold of the bulb as the shades on my track lights are very deep and it's very difficult (that's an understatement) to hold onto the bulb to align it and then twist it. The black suction cup they give you is totally useless! Patience runs VERY thin during this process and the air gets VERY blue!

    You need to wear rubber or nitrile gloves because the oils from your skin can damage halogen bulbs and dramatically lower their lifespan. Plus even with the breaker off you shouldn't ever poke into the socket holes even for demonstration purpose.

    • @sherelleh
      @sherelleh 2 роки тому

      Do you absolutely have to turn the breaker off to change the bulbs or is that just to be safe?

    • @clydeklotz314
      @clydeklotz314 2 роки тому +1

      @@sherelleh when replacing only a bulb, make sure the light switch is off. This is because halogen bulbs get extremely hot right away if it's turned on while the bulb is in your hand. You don't have to turn off the breaker when replacing any light bulb, just don't poke anything into any socket except for the base of the bulb and you'll be fine. Breakers only need to be turned off if an electrician is working with wires, or a ballast, etc.
