I haven't changed mine in a long time and I found a pack of them on Amazon for a great price, so I bought them and I show you the differences between the one that came with the range hood and the one that I got on Amazon.

The black stuff inside the new filter is activated carbon/charcoal material. This is what captures the smoke. Your filters look pretty sparing on the charcoal though. I'd add another layer. It's the same stuff you buy for air purifiers and are often called carbon pre-filters. They can be expensive if custom made for a specific purifier. So buy them in a fabric like roll, and there's thicker foam ones, and also ones plastic cages with real activated carbon/charcoal pieces inside, which do work better for catching smoke but for hood fans like yours the fabric type would be better and it captures other airborne stuff too. When buying replacement fan filters do check how much activated carbon is inside and be sure it says 'activated' because that's the magic of it. My grease screen has no filter at all. Just the screen. So I just cut some of the charcoal pre-filter for my air purifier into the size of my grease screen and taped it on the inside with a tiny bit of duct tape. Works like a charm. Also, easier to replace the charcoal often and just cleaning the grease from the outer screen. You can't wash a filter that has the carbon inside. It's a full replacement. So I like my way much better.

They are the same each side in these ones. It's just activated carbon filter inside.
