She's mentioned in other videos that she used to do cake decorating. I guess it's easier/quicker to learn to draw in awkward angles than constantly reposition.
I don't think you have the worst luck ever, Emily! You have Ed, the zoo, and a wonderful UA-cam community 💗🐍 You have amazing luck and just used it all on what really matters 😅
Please do an updated meet our snakes video! It'd be so interesting to see who you all still have vs your newer snakes 🐍 even if its just the snakes in the back of your shop
man its dedication to see the same comments on every video xD I don't remember if its just you, or different people i've seen, but pretty much word for word i've been reading similar comments to this one for weeks. I really hope they listen because I'd love the update! But lets be honest, this community is gonna watch whatever content Ed and Emily release :3 Love you SD
It’s always fun to see a glimpse of your personal style, Emily! You always look so professional and put-together, including your “off-duty” outfits. Hope the party was a blast!
Just wanted to add that I love how the egg laying videos are usually a month behind, which means we don't have to wait the full gestation period for them to hatch. 😁😍 AND, you still haven't explained (on UA-cam) the issue with black vs coloured markers on the eggs. Thank you. See you next time. 😊😘🤗❤👍👋
I know, annoying! Just: yes some colours change on the shell during incubation, but it it has anything to do with mortality (toxic colours?) Or just test it on some chicken-egg-shells (somebody around there still eats eggs right?).
@@muurrarium9460 It's literally just the light and heat in the incubator. UVB will (well, UV in general) change/fade the colors of a sharpie. That's with all permanent markers. UV-resistant ones are uber expensive. It happens with black, but because it's not the pigment itself dissolving AND black is a dark color, it's less/not noticable with black
They're just testing to see which colors, if any, correlate to a higher mortality rate in eggs. I think this is because they got sent a chart by a viewer that had all the egg hatching statistics from the last few years, and from their stats the eggs that had orange marker were the most likely to go bad or not hatch. So they're waiting on a big clutch to see if they can prove anything
@@snakewithapen5489 Last I checked that never correlates. There's actually legit scientific studies on that wort of thing. And yo my knowledge they actually used orange...very rarely.
The wiggle is the signature kingsnake dance! It usually means "I'm a kiiiiingsnakeeee - please don't eaaat meee" They do it while breeding as well to let the other snake know that they are a kingsnake and they are both a kingsnake and please let's not have trouble 😍❤️
If you're trying to figure out the effect of different colors on the hatch rate, it would also be good to make sure you're using the same type of marker. Whether a marker is water-based/water-soluble or alcohol-based/alcohol-soluble (most Sharpies) is gonna change things. And markers are made with different, like, ink recipes (? idk ratios of dye to solvent?), sometimes even by the same manufacturer, so if you're doing Sharpies try to do ones that came from the same pack. Though, even then, the ratio or something about how the ink is mixed might be different based on the color since pigments/dyes behave differently from each other, so if you DO find there's a difference, it might be because of the dye but it could also be because of the balance of alcohol or other ingredients or something like that. SO yeah, keeping them all the same brand will help eliminate extra variables for your tests.
Yesterday I got to visit a local petstore here in Finland and they had a beautiful kingsnake and a ginger burmese python for sale there. Beautiful, healthy snakes! :) I haven't seen these two types of snakes before and both their tanks had little Snake Discovery stickers with "learn more here" written on them! You guys do so much good for snakes!
Yay! More eggies!! I'm so glad you are doing clutch combination videos this year, I feelblike we missed out on so many last year because of individual focus.
Congrats to Azura for having a bigger clutch! Fingers crossed that we see some combo genes! I started watching this channel early 2022 I think, and this egg season is extra fun to watch because now my mom, who does not like snakes very much, has been watching these new egg laying videos with me. I showed her last year’s baby hatching videos and she was fascinated by the genetics side of it, especially Monroe and Circus/Carnival Mike’s clutch. My mom and I don’t have much in common but this channel’s given us both great content to enjoy together! Plus, happy birthday to Hayley! Hope it was a fun party!
@snakediscovery would you ever consider doing an in depth behind the scenes of your business? It seems like you guys do a lot of different things (zoo, pet store/adoption, programs/classes, youtube, patreon, etc). I would love to see a "day in the life" of Ed & Emily as self employed business owners. I adore the channel and all you do! ❤
I got to say though I watch all the videos you guys make but breeding season. The egg hatching videos are my favorite so I'm always excited when there's like laying videos cuz I'm like who that means there's going to be more hatching videos!
Hi Emily and Ed! You've inspired me to get a ball python I just picked her up today! She's a banana morph my absolute favorite! She's just a tiny baby lol! So thanks for inspiring me and helping my family get over their fear of snakes!
It looks like an albino lavender hognose would be the coral morph, which look like lavenders but pinker with red eyes. Fingers crossed, cuz they're beautiful!!

Thank you Emily and Ed for all of your guys vids, we know that you guys put so much work in to them. And you guys inspired me to get my first snake! I hope you guys are doing well!
Since your adding colored sharpies to different clutches, I’ve noticed that colors have been fading or turned a different color. So while your are drawing on the egg, you can write what color your using! Or if that’s too much writing the entire word, write the first two letters the color starts with.
I'm not snake or reptile savvy, but since I love getting hyped about snakes I looked up lavender and albino hognose mix at the morph market and there is a very cute girl, for anyone who's interested in looking at what Emily's babies could look like (if at least one were to be both morphs.) Plus I learned that the mix is called coral morph. I'm so excited to see the babies
I do not think keeping an animal in a plastic drawer, with a plastic waterbowl and plastic "enrichment" is the best way. They cannot even stretch out in them! I was somewhat okay with the program animals being cooped up this way in between being able to really stretch, move and have some actual enrichment (new smells, sights, textures) but some of them are just stuck there as breeders their entire life...is just sad. (At least chickens treated that way get killed between 6 -23 months of age.)
@@muurrarium9460 I do agree with you and they have so many animals and not to much space but they you can tell they love them and use up all their space

A trick for getting stubborn markers to work is making a few scribbles on your arm, 8/10 times it works for me (though your arms become a bit of a mess) it could also maybe also work with something like paper towels but I haven’t tried that yet
I'm glad to see Onyx laid eggs! Hopefully they all hatch! I found out about Mexican Black Kingsnakes through Snake Discovery. They're quickly becoming my favorite species!
