I, a 24 year old man, am sitting in a McDonald's, biting my lip to try not to bawl like a baby. I've heard it said that Nier: Automata is the first truly great work of art to come out of the games industry, and although I hesitate to say "first," it IS great.

I genuinely see the ending to Nier as one of the biggest pieces of evidence that people are, for the most part, good deep down, and are inclined to want to help others. It’s so fitting that message comes at the end of a long storyline with multiple examples of the opposite, and that real life sacrifice gives the story itself a more hopeful ending.

My all time favorite game. A rare masterpiece that pushes the medium of video games harder than any other game before or since. I'm very glad she enjoyed the ride
Now that she's got more experience with character focused action rpg's with a wacky story, I think you know whats gotta come next. I'm thinking something with a lot of... Heart.
Another amazing video on an amazing videogame that made me think what is a videogame, because this is a work of art for sure. Your girlfriend is super sensible , I can only imagine how many times she ended up crying for the robots or the androids, this i game is so emotional. I hope your channel goes up in the algorithm because now I'm in.
me, some years ago a random night at 2.30 passed mid night, thinking finally I was gonna get ending E and finish Nier Automata. I was not ready for the feels. as a player it hit hard when you saw "so and so's data was lost" and those encouraging words poped up cheering you on everytime you fail the bullet hell ending credits...there are no words I can find to properly define that particular feeling at that exact moment in time. I had tears pouring out of my eyes the entire time. it was such an experience that I think everyone should at least play through this game just once in their lifetime :p
Imagine a game is that well written that you get teary eyed during the end credits in form of a shoot em up. The music alone makes me emotional. What a masterpiece.
It's such a heartwarming and special ending that it deserves to always be remembered in gaming history and by all true gamers. I want to go back and play the game again but I feel like it would be a betrayal to the ending, but then again I feel like I want to get the Emile ending... Such a dilemma
NieR's style of making OSTs - Make a song with soothing and memorable vocals. - Now keep the soothing vocals but add feelings of Risk, Urgency, and Tension to the instruments. - you have successfully told the player to "fight or lose everything"
I'm currently diving head first into all the lore of this game, for a case study I have to write for school. Spent the entire day reading articles and watching videos about all the endings and now you're uploading this video. I think I'll definitely use this as an example of how good this story and world is written, that even a "non-gamer" can understand all (or most) of its beauty and nuances.
@@Exel3nce Well biggest point for me is I've actually played a lot of Automata. So I've got a greater understanding of how the world is written, it's atmosphere and gameplay loop. I haven't really played all the other games that intensively, so I don't feel like I can really dig deep into its world because I haven't actually experienced it a lot. Second point is that I love the opening statement of the game directly referencing Nietzsches beliefs. With that I can openly credit all of his work whenever I'm referencing the "god is dead" idea. I don't think other nier games openly reference him so with Automata I atleast have a credible source for my thoughts ^^
@@simplygamic Well, you'll have to go into the story behind the Gestalt and Replicant projects, because it's how humanity attempted to approach god-hood with such new found power. Writing their own destinies that... well, you played automata, you can clearly see how 11k~ish years later it turned out =p Devola and Popula are integral to that part of the story, btw, and their (continued) existence is quite philosophical in itself...
@@thalanoth I'm not sure you understand the Gestalt/Replicant lore. Humanity didn't try for godhood, they tried to survive White Chlorination Syndrome by separating body and soul. Even maso experiments like those performed on No. 6 and No. 7 were weaponization experiments to defend against Legion, not attempts towards godhood.
Just the visual of the choice between 9S and A2 makes me break down sobbing, this game is so burned into my mind I don't think it'll ever stop getting to me. Thank you for having your girlfriend experience this.
Hi hi. Found you guys by accident and absolutely love the Made My Girlfriend Play series. Been watching them all but my favorite will be this video (the first I watched) but also because I made my Boyfriend play this game and get all the endings so I can watch and we both absolutely love this game.

This game really is one of the best gaming experiences. Just played through replant recently and planning on going back through automata again just because
I have two friends playing this now, and they're currently nearing the point of starting the third playthrough. As I watch them, all I can think of is when I got to the choice of sacrificing my data and how I lost my mind at the weight of that decision, and how this game transcends everything I had known about the medium. Even now, just watching this video, it brings me to tears at how beautiful it is. I know for a fact that when the moment comes for my friends, they are going to absolutely unravel. This game is art at its highest form. Great episode!!
Absolutely loved everything about this video. Your girlfriend's reaction to the game and down to your narrating it... It was well made. Thank you! 👍🏻👊🏻
This video was amazing and I’m so happy to see people experience how amazing and emotional Nier Automata was. Thank you for sharing her reactions to some of the best moments in gaming.
I've started to play Nier: Automata recently, only now finding your channel. But its nice to know that I'm not the only one who fell in love with the game so much that I willingly deleted my only save file. I'm doing a second playthough because I love this game so much.
I’m so amazed she was able to get to ending E and actually appreciate it. That’s amazing. Cause it’s not a very iser friendly game. I know my wife probably would not even be able to make it through the prologue. So major props to your girlfriend, and to you for encouraging her
Man, I have to play this game again. I still teared up uncontrollably at the credit fight. Having other people encourage you and literally sacrifice their save file for your victory just touches your heart.
What an amazing video and journey! With games like these, I enjoy kind of reliving what I felt when I first played this game through seeing others play the game for the first time! What a beautiful game and a beautiful video! Very well done to the both of you!
not gonna lie i wasn't expecting to break out bawling overflowing in tears when watching this video but 10:03 just rushed me back so many memories from when i first played this game combined with what i imagine she must be feeling in this very moment just had me straight out crying. i love yoko taro games so much and during my first playthrough of nier automata i probably full on cried over 40 times just cause of how beautiful and sad this whole game experience was
I just replayed the whole game for the second time and I still get super emotional watching its endings especially ending E with those incredible soundtracks playing in the background, I might just replay it for the third time at this point and would still enjoy every bit of it. Masterpiece..
I didn’t expect to become as emotional as I did watching her reach the ending, but there is something so visceral about the music, the pain you experience at the end, the words of real people cheering you on, and that one small ounce of hope that maybe, just maybe, something good can still happen. So glad you got the experience you wanted to have with your gf!
having to almost restart the first part of the game realy helps you notice things you might not have seen or noticed such as whenever 9s tells 2b not to feel bad for the machines he is actually trying to convince himself not to feel bad for them.
The way they used music in this game imho hasn't been done before so well, it's really a key element of the entire experience. One nice little detail during the end credits where you finally accept help (as she does after 12:18) is how they change the singing track to a full choir. Those voices are actually from all the developers, producers and Yoko-san, like they're rooting for you as you get more and more helpers and the music ramps up. (I had posted this with a link to the NieRGame twitter clip where the composer Keiichi Okabe talks about this but I guess that got auto-deleted).
Nier: Automata is one of my proudest Platinumed games. I've told so many of my friends to experience this game and they've all loved it. Also seen countless playthroughs and even in this super cut version of it, hearing your girlfriend crying near the end broke me down again myself. I was STREAMING tears with a smile on my face by the time we got to the credits of the game. If I could erase parts of my memory just to experience this game again for the first time I don't know how much I'd give up up to do it again
The fact that the one section in gaming that gets me to tear up every single time is a bullet hell version of the credits really speaks volumes about this game.

Genuinely one of my favorite games. I need to play this again sometime soon.
Thank you for showing your girlfriends experience in a small way it made me feel like I was playing through it the first time. Best of luck to you and her in yojr future endeavors ❤️
I always tear up during ending E, it's so good. For me, it's the best ending to a game ever
Heart.
Think she has enough determination for it?
It's strange that I think of two different games when I read that. But a video about either game would be a joy!
I always start crying when I see the [e]nd screen lol. Even with most of the context cut for the video.
the ending for this game is one of the most impactful endings ive ever seen
After all these years and 2 full playthroughs with a platinum, this game still manages to make me cry
This was awesome. Automata feels kinda personal for me and rewatching from yours perspective was amazing
me, some years ago a random night at 2.30 passed mid night, thinking finally I was gonna get ending E and finish Nier Automata.
You put into words all the things I've felt and tried to convey so precisely and so heartfelt. To the glory of mankind!
I started replaying NieR: Automata and I love it. One of my favorite games ever. The music, the theme, the characters were all so good.
8:26 Hilariously cute
Is always nice see people play the best game of the past decade
NieR's style of making OSTs
- Make a song with soothing and memorable vocals.
Why specifially this one and not the Others in the Franchise?
That's awesome!!! Good luck on your case study :)
I enjoy seeing her reaction to this game. I’d love to see the full experience but I’m glad to see the best parts here.
Hi hi. Found you guys by accident and absolutely love the Made My Girlfriend Play series. Been watching them all but my favorite will be this video (the first I watched) but also because I made my Boyfriend play this game and get all the endings so I can watch and we both absolutely love this game.
the choirs of ending e, i almost tear up and it was just a moment they played
gotta love this game
"This game doesn't bluff"
True
I dont know why im tearing up just seeing these endings again after all these years. Right in the feels i fogot i had.
"This isn't the first time she played a character in high heels in hack and slashes"
Both from Platinum
And neither are Bayonetta lmao
"I thought I saved them!"
Me too :(
This series is so amazing, you two are wonderful
She almost got the 4th hacking screen vs A2 fight, that would be great to see. The final sequence of this game(from ""The [E]nd of Yourha" till the title screen) is hands down the best moment I've had in a game.
Glad i got recommended this video, always a good time tearing up and crying about this game no matter how many times i think about it
I’m so amazed she was able to get to ending E and actually appreciate it.
Seeing Tarny experience the final end of the game straight up transported me emotionally to when I had first gotten there myself.
What an amazing video and journey! With games like these, I enjoy kind of reliving what I felt when I first played this game through seeing others play the game for the first time! What a beautiful game and a beautiful video! Very well done to the both of you!
I feel like every gamer should experience this one it's just unlike anything else it's beautiful and emotional and wonderful.
not gonna lie i wasn't expecting to break out bawling overflowing in tears when watching this video but 10:03 just rushed me back so many memories from when i first played this game combined with what i imagine she must be feeling in this very moment just had me straight out crying.
i love yoko taro games so much and during my first playthrough of nier automata i probably full on cried over 40 times just cause of how beautiful and sad this whole game experience was
I never played this game or read anything about it before and I still felt emotional. Thanks for the feels.
I never quite realized... How beautiful this world really is.
I watch every playthrough of this game I can find, it's awesome seeing how hard this game hit for everyone.
It really says something that the ending credits and sequence always makes me tear up even when I'm watching other people play it.
Bro thank you so much for keeping her first reaction to the ending e that was so nostalgic
I nearly got softlocked on that fight in the same way the first time too, fortunately I just reshuffled my chips a tad and beat it with my new chips.
I love Automata so much. This game, this experience was emotional rollercoaster. I almost cried while watching your video.
Very cool that she got to experience all of the game, damn ending E is still to this day, the most profund and intense decision a game has made me do.
The fact that the one section in gaming that gets me to tear up every single time is a bullet hell version of the credits really speaks volumes about this game.
yo instant 10/10 for disgaea 1 music, also just an all around great video
oo yay my favourite game!!!! so happy you guys got to experience it :)
I just finished this and cried again after watching. Pascal's arc was the most painful. :(
Perfect timing for this considering the anime releases in January!
We're so excited!! :)
3 years and still crying in happiness at someone else's reaction to ending e.
