Nissan GT-R Redesign - ABOUT TIME!

The GT-R to me has always been in a category of its own. If you were to only hear the name Nissan GT-R and look at the spec sheet and performance numbers, you’d have an image of a supercar. A low, two door coupe maybe mid-engined with massive side intakes.
But to me, the GT-R is a pretty conservative design. You wouldn’t know what it’s capable of by just looking at it. The proportions are more those of a regular sports coupe than a supercar.
To me, this is what makes the GT-R special.
However it’s been around since 2008, not counting the concept that was introduced all the way back in 2005. It’s time for a redesign and that’s what I’m going to create in this video.
I’m also going to show you the design of the GT-R50 and compare the concept to the production version to see what changed. I’m going to redesign the current GT-R taking inspiration from the GT-R50 but make it more production friendly.

Personally, I hope Nissan does something like what they did with the Z that took inspiration from the original 240Z, and make the R36 more reminiscent of the understated, sharp design of the R32. All the generations that followed that one got way too busy in their design. The R33 looks to fat. The R34 has too much going on. And, the R35 is just plain weird. Given how well they did with the design of the new Z, I'm pretty hopeful that they'll do good with the next GTR.

I won’t lie- the R35 grew on me. It’s a very different design from the R34 but I still enjoy looking at them

Nicely updated and extremely muscular. Agree that this car is outdated, having minimal design changes in over 10 years. Definitely a car built around an engine but aggressive styling is so important these days and this one is beautiful! Well done sir 👍🏼

Love the redesign for the front end. It makes the current version look dopey and sedate by comparison.
Looks good except the headlights. The headlights reach too far into the center of the grille, similar to the MK5 Supra, with the difference that the Supra has no opening there, which makes it look less awkward. I always liked vertical headlights, good examples are the GT-R, the CTS-V, pre face-lift F-Type or the 458, 488, LaFerrari and last but not least F12, GTC4 and 812. Vertical headlights make a car more unique and noticeable in my opinion

Agreed, the headlights look almost tacky in a way. Well at least it's consistent with the other cars Nissan has been putting out recently lol (except the 400Z).

for me the gtr50's side view goes from a performance car to a more conservative sedan like the r34

Wow man I’m really enjoying your work! Do you do trucks? I would love to see the Nissan d21 with a more modern look. I keep imaging it with a ram rebel bumper that’s more boxy in my minds eye. Keep up the amazing work man.
i love how NFS ProStreet has both the 2005 concept and the 2007 Production next to each other in the car lot so you can go back and forth comparing the two, main differences are:
- different headlights, and black marking under them is gone.
- different side mirrors.
- no door handles on concept.
- different wheels (production are better imo).
- different rear spoiler, production got the 3 mounts with 3rd brake lights.
- different front bumper and hood shut line.
Can an Ipad work just as good as the graphic tablet you are using?
Headlights look too close to eache other and I alsow prefer the vertical ones instead of the horizontal ones that you did.

This car they spent all of the budget on the tech and none on the aesthetic. It's just so plain. I vote for a full body redesign
I agree. The GTR's looks dont translate just how fast it is. All the VR38DETT engines are hand built.
The way the front fender looks reminds me so much of the LFA.

Wow that's an astonishing sexy car!! It's catching up to the other super cars. To be honest i like the black version, it looks a lot sharper and more mean. The back should be built with a large carbon defuser and a lowering air suspension to turn it into a race car automatically. I like the headlights of the GT-R 50. Make the car more aerodynamic.
I have been nervous that they would ruin the R36 but they should take notes from this! I love how the rest of the car is very similar to the R35 and the Italdesign style headlights. Great R36!
Interesting redesign Sketch , not too sure about the rear treatment you did , plus l would prefer the rear blend into the front more 🤔.... the muscular front just looks a bit odd even on the production model

11:01 The GT-R also often takes some of its design language from the Infiniti G/Q series like how the R35 design has a lot of Skyline/G35 (V35) design in it like the headlights and hood. I think if there was a new one it probably take some design cues from the lights and hood of the V37 Q50 and Q60.
Also, the V37 400R has the same type of design language and influence as well.
I think it's more like Nissan having certain design trends. At that time, Nissan liked to use long vertical headlights on their cars. This changed though. I think recently, Nissan tries to do some cleaner design, like the new Nissan Note or the upcoming Nissan Z. The V37 is from 2014, so it's not the modern Nissan design language.
To me GTR is the best example for timeless design, even though it has been for long time without any big changes, its fans are still there,and what, I love it 😘 , have a good day to all...

Unlikely. The Vision GT looks really cool, but I doubt Nissan will go that route.

I really like you thoughts and directive for the GTR, but this front end is perhaps not what I hope for. I would go for a more simple design, perhaps round headlights. At least not long/stretched ones. But I do love your videos, and you are infinitely more talented than me, so no real criticism meant. Keep bringing good stuff 👌🏼🤘🏼
you are totally right men gtr is on a class of it own for the simple fact gtr is heavy big & not crazy hp for todays days standard tbh. but men is a fast beautiful vehicle. anyway thanx for the video men.

The front end reminds me more of a sylvia from 90s, than a continuation to current gtr. But anyway great work!

Great redesign! I hope it looks similar to your render. I really hope they don’t make it look like an r34, which is very dated and not a timeless design.
I'd like to see a Chevy Vega Redesign.
I like both the old and new gtr models. The only problem I ever had is the transition from r34 to 35 in terms of design. The r34 looks very lean like an athlete and then the r35 becomes muscular like a bodybuilder. It just lost the tuner car vibe. A lot of it has to do with the new manufacturing methods so of course designers would like to try new things. I just wanted it to keep that sporty lean feel rather than a modern heavy muscle car feel. Also seems like gtr looks more and more like a Lexus. I hope it won't lose its identity one day.
I believe this is a thing due to the fact that the r35 was made more to compete with the supercars while the r34 gtr although it was the top of the line from nissan, it wasn't made to compete with the Italian and German supercars
