Not a bad start to a road trip with the first stop in the next state, and the second stop in a different state. Try A Better Route Planner for optimized charging stops. You will end up getting there more quickly overall. More stops, but for much shorter duration- single digit number of minutes, or maybe teens number of minutes per stop instead of 40 minute stops.

Don't know why I think like this ? But is it ok to go on long drives? Or is it a good idea to give it a rest after 3 hrs of driving?

Autopilot and FSD are also huge for road trips. The sleeping while charging idea is a good one; maybe an air mattress in the hatch would make it even better. I'm going to switch to 18 inch Model 3 Aero 750kg rated wheels with 235/55R18 EV tires for the next road trip as it will add 45 miles of range per full charge.

Used to solo by myself nonstop overnight from detroit to california coast (don’t ask LOL) and vice versa. sadly there’s no way I could pull that off these days in my Tesla like I could in the ICE vehicle. In all reality I wouldn’t do that anymore like I used to anyways so these stops for charging in the Tesla would be totally fine and welcomed. Did you run into many stops that had wait times, etc?

In all of my trips from Houston to Dallas there are two stops for the family. At an average 15 min per each stop I can tell you that gas or electric it makes no difference. If I go by myself then I can drive with only one stop, because I am going 85-90 and that stop is only 10 min to "top off" and take a wiz. I don't mind at all. If they ever deliver a 500 mile battery pack then yep most gas cars would be in trouble. Also note that people who drive a gas car equivalent to my MYP will only get 17 mpg anyways so it all averages out for me.

A couple times a year I drive 1100 miles (16 hours) to the Grand Canyon, sleep, hike down and up, sleep, and drive 1100 miles home. Driving an EV would make the trip unbearable.
Regardless of range optimal charging will require 15-20 minutes of charging for every 2 hours of driving. And the cost per mile for fuel will be more than my ICE - Honda Accord. Both significant issues given the premium cost of an EV.

    • @aaronbounds1336

Depends…lots of savings to be had if you have certain home charging conditions. For example: it costs me between $0 and $2.10 to drive my M Y 300 miles if I recharge at home, and it’s super convenient because the car is always ready to drive without having to stop at a gas station. It costs about 1/3 less than gas to go on a road trip without free supercharging miles. It takes longer, but for many folks that’s okay, or even better as compared to road tripping with gas or diesel. For me, with all of my personal variables, I much prefer electric to gas. Not even a hesitation. But it’s not for everyone. I much prefer taking a little longer getting there because the trade off is I feel much better, much more relaxed and less stressed, because the car literally drives me everywhere. I hardly ever drive at all. I sit in the driver’s seat and supervise, but it’s light work compared to actually driving. Second, it gives me more time to play with the kids and have fun little experiences that we would never have gotten to have had we not stopped to charge. Third, the car is much safer than any other car in its class, by a lot. Fourth, I never hear any complaints from the wife or kids about having to pee on a road trip, because we’re stopping every couple of hours to recharge so every charge stop can be a toilet stop. Fifth, the car stays much cleaner. I bring a squeegee and spray bottle with me and clean the windshield and front fascia of the car at most charging stops. It uses up some time and serves a good purpose. Sixth, when I bought the Tesla I bought some of my life back - no more time spent doing maintenance: no more oil changes, brake jobs, water pump/timing belt, spark plugs, air filter, etcetera- the car doesn’t have any of those parts, so they don’t need maintenance. I did take it in for an alignment, but all cars need that from time to time.
Everyone has their own criteria for what makes something “better” or “worse”, but for me, I am never going back to gas, because driving a Tesla is a better overall experience and the trade offs fit my lifestyle and preferences.

    • @aaronbounds1336
      @aaronbounds1336 Рік тому

Yes, necessarily so. All season or summer tires are specifically made to not work well in temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, and winter road conditions. Tires make a huge difference in vehicle performance. Any car will be much worse in any conditions the tires aren’t designed to handle. All Weather tires are made for all four seasons, including snow and cold temps. Michelin makes the CrossClimate2 tire. Nokias makes the Hakkapeliittas, and just came out with a new All Weather tire. Other tire manufacturers make other options as well. For best performance in summer and winter, the best option is to have two sets of tires. One for winter, and one for the other seasons, depending on all the factors, of course.

So not only would I not have spent that extra money buying the model Y performance, I think the money would’ve been better spent buying (FSD beta).
So can you imagine that trip in a year or two when FSD beta is no longer FSD beta, it’s simply FSD?
So I drive a Tesla 2018 Model 3 duel motor long range battery pack and when I got the car the battery pack was initially rated at 316 miles.
So I purchased FSD at the initial price of 3K and now it’s a $15,000 option. So can you imagine the cost when (FSD beta) is just (FSD) and it can do all of the driving? Not to mention that Tesla is continuing to improve the battery packs and rolling out more and faster Superchargers.
Yeah, I think we all know that driving a Tesla is going to be the way everyone is going to wanna travel in the future. Just load up your car, get in it, and go to sleep. Cheers 🥂

I don't know if I agree with you when you say you're spending an extra 4 hours charging your car. Most people aren't driving more than 2-3 hours or so, no matter what kind of car they have, before needing to eat, use the bathroom and stretch the legs. If you decide, screw that, I'm driving for the next 4 hours straight, you're going to pay the piper on the other end where, all of a sudden, you'll find that you can't go more than an hour or so before you have to stop again. The only way you can go more than 3 hours is if you have more than one driver in the car, and one is driving while everyone else is sleeping. Yeah, in that case, ICE beats electric. But I've never experienced that because, no matter what, someone in the car will beg that they need to stop and use the bathroom, etc.

That may be true for the most part, but there are people who will drive for 20+ hours stopping only for fuel breaks. I've driven 1,400 miles straight 3 times with 4 gas stops and couple quick rest stops. Drive would have been even easier with something like Autopilot. (Also, I don't recommend these long basically non stop drives. Lol)

I've been doing ROAD TRIP for YEARS, and I almost finished the 48 states, and NEVER I kept on stopping every 2-3 hours, as that's too much!
I drove Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna for 5k miles every years with always 5÷ hours of driving before we stopped, period.

0-60 is such a useless party trick that most of us couldn’t care less for. I need the distance rather than 0-60. I mean 0-60 in 5 or 6 seconds would be more than fast enough. Unless you are a young kid with no kids of your own and you still believe that super fast 0-60 will actually drop her panties, and sometimes it just might but I would stay away from those. 😜

What do you do to afford all the money you just spent on things, just in this video alone? lol. I know 22.7k subscribers and 40k views a video isn't paying for this lavish lifestyle living (the trunk of all those drinks haha). Whatever you doing, God is good to you my friend. blessings. Noticed that everyone says "absorbent" in place of "exorbitant" or excessive all the time. it's funny because with English, its all about how you say something, not really the word you say. Anyway, just something funny i notice with people.

Wanted more content about the Tesla Model Y. Not about you. POV over the shoulder seeing the content of the car driving. Your charger stops. Seems like you're doing too many things not related to Model Y. IMO

Am I the only one overthinking? Was wondering if it's ok to go on long drives in hot temperatures like in July on road trips say about 6-7 hrs straight without worrying about battery fire ? Don't know why I think like this ? But is it ok to go on long drives? Or is it a good idea to give it a rest after 3 hrs of driving?
