  • How To Protect Your Image In Seoul South Korea.
Living In Seoul South Korea comes with many perks as a foreigner, however, there are some foreigners who come here and do no respect Korean culture, rules, or laws. I think foreigners who come to live in or visit Seoul South Korea and do not respect the laws of the country, can make it difficult for other foreigners to come to the city and country to live. Francois Marc details how and why protecting your image in South Korea is the best way to make your stay here in the country enjoyable.

As a American Black 🖤 Woman I was there in Korea in 2019' right before the Pandemic Hit!! And one thing I tell people about Korea is that it's a Homogenous Society!! Now having said that theirs a lot of cultures and traditions that go along with the locals there and respecting their society!! My experience there was phenomenal 🔥!! I was treated extremely well by Koreans!! Everyone I came in contact with was helpful to me as I certainly got lost a few times 🤣🤣🤣!! But they definitely went out of their way to show me a Amazing Time 💗!! And for that I call Korea my "Home Away From Home" Good Video and Thanks for Sharing 🙏🏽

I just got back from Korea two weeks ago. granted I was only there for two weeks. I made sure to be very respectful and follow the rules. Yes I carried my garbage with me till I got to a place where I could properly throw it away. I said thank you in Hangul every chance I got. And I at least tried to speak what little Korean I knew. When I couldn't figure out the train cards, someone just jumped in and helped me. A few people would try to help me when I looked lost. Overall I had a pleasant experience that I should love to go back.
I think also as a Black Woman, I really wanted to leave a good impression.

Thank you for that:) For foreigners in general, it's important to leave a good impression wherever one travels. As a Black man in Korea, its especially important because of the various stereotypes some people may adhere to us. As a Black woman, I'm sure you understand. That being said, you sound like a very respectable person. Thanks for leaving a good impression for us here in Korea!

I think the same goes for all countries. If you go to another country accept that they do things differently and speak differently. Respect the culture and people of the country you are visiting or living in. Korea is a beautiful country and the people are so friendly. Looking forward to returning next year.

I totally agree. People in countries like Korea don't have much exposure to situation where people from extremely diverse backgrounds interact. People from US criticize them for being 'racist', but calling them 'racist' because they don't follow 'woke' 'D&I' protocols, to me, is a form of discrimination. Because having chance to grow up or interact with people of diverse backgrounds and having the chance to be educated about it at school or work is a form of privilege. How to interact 'properly' around different races or cultures in places like the US is a trained skill from being told or observing others since young. So calling those people without this form of privilege just pure racist isn't fair.

Im a korean living in europe and i share the same sentiment as you. I respect that I am a foreigner and im not going to be fully accepted, enjoy the same benefits and sometimes be discriminated against. Only if everyone thought like this, living in harmony might be achieved easier but sadly many dont and lead to tensions.
People compare Japan and Korea about how people treat foreigners but they dont talk about how Japan has been used to foreigners since the 80s when their economy flourished but for korea its only been the past 7,8 years or so.
Koreans do have a problem with how they treat non westerners and this is very valid criticism but when a westerner tries to educate on how multiculturalism should be achieved, i think its crossing the line. People forget how immigration started in the west in the first place, it wasn't all peace and love, and it still isn't.
Give koreans some time to get used to foreigners, i think there will still be unpleasant people being willfully racists but you can't lump all koreans together and generalise. Koreans like to criticise everyone and stingy with compliments but once they have a positive view they also appreciate it

I haven't watched many your videos, but I can see you have a good mindset and are thoughtful.
I agree that it's more important to understand and share the unique values of the society rather than completely becoming a part of it.
And when it comes to Korea, becoming a completely authentic Korean isn't necessarily a good thing because it might mean sharing in the country's tragic history and hardships as well.
For example, if a war with North Korea breaks out, true Koreans, including myself, would have to take up arms and go to the front lines.
This is an extreme example, but it illustrates that fully integrating into a country can go beyond just understanding and sharing its values.
By the way, your video is alway great ~ Thank you for your opinion:)

Multiculturalism is a very American perspective.
If you think about common sense, it is normal for a country to be integrated into one culture. Because the United States is a special country founded on immigration, multi culturalism is common sense, but that depends on your circumstances.
Koreans are very angry at the United States because of Americans forcing multiculturalism, and Americans should no longer make Koreans angry.
The stereotype that a single culture excludes other cultures is an American illusion.

@@francoismarc3 Multicultualism is a scheme designed by deep state globalists. The true meaning of multicultualism is to recognize and mutually understand the world's diverse religions, cultures, and customs. Multicultualism, currently advocated by American progressives, has been misused to judge only from an American perspective without acknowledging the world's diverse cultures. If you truly advocate Multicultualism, you should recognize Korea's dog meat culture as Korean culture. You probably have no idea what atrocities the United States has committed in Korea. In the 20th century, the United States planned to convert Korea into a Christian country and then make it a dependent country of the United States like Japan. This is why I don't trust America.
What's so crazy about Americans is that they consider distinguishing between races to be racist.
Mentioning and distinguishing between the Nilot people of Africa, the Bantu people, the Yamato of Japan, the Yemaek of Korea, the Anglo-Saxons, the Celts, and the Latins is like differentiating retrievers, Dobermans, huskies, and shepherds, and no one say dog discrimination . I don't think it discriminates against dogs. You Americans probably don't like hearing distinctions between ethnic groups. However, justice should not be ignored for the sake of not inconveniencing Americans.
My message is clear. Whether you insist on a black actress in the Little Mermaid movie or legalize same-sex marriage is your choice. But, don't spread your shit on the world. In my view, the American lifestyle rock/hip-hop music, professional wrestling, talk shows, and Hollywood movies are a very foolish waste of life. And, these cultures cannot be forced on the world, and can only be achieved by voluntarily accepting American culture. If a country banned professional wrestling, would you send fighter jets to bomb it?
Likewise, the United States should never force its ideas and philosophies on other countries. It would be right for people around the world to agree with American philosophy and participate voluntarily, but unfortunately, American ideas are highly distrusted around the world.
Because most countries have better philosophies than America's.
Therefore, as a Korean, I do not want to be infringed upon by Americans anymore, and I must receive an apology from the United States for its intervention and intervention in Korea. Since you were educated and brainwashed at American universities, you probably have no idea what atrocities the United States has committed in Korea. I am satisfied with the United States not interfering in the peace of Korea.

Multiculturalism is not "a very American perspective".
Brazil is a very multicultural country and it is far removed from "America" in terms of language, culture, social norms, food, music, etc.
NOTE: Brazil is a part of America.
I think you meant "the United States" - there's a difference between "America" as a continent and "the United States" as one of many countries within America. 😊
Multiculturalism exists in other countries and continents and adds so much diversity and richness to a society.
I'm part European and part African, and let me tell you Africa as a continent is very multicultural but in a much different way than how most people understand "multiculturalism." Just the country of my birth alone has many layers of multiculturalism as there are several different ethnic groups each with their own language, traditions, customs, etc and yet all these ethnic groups live alongside each other and intermarry.
One country - different ethnic groups.
Multiculturalism isn't a negative thing as you seem to think, as per the wording and tone of your comment.
Heck, Korea has embraced many different aspects of the very multiculturalism that you seem to deride.
Multiculturalism isn't a bad thing. It becomes a bad thing when people from different cultures consider their culture as the best and look down on people from other cultures and that, my friend, happens everywhere, not only in "America", that is, the US.

I have to disagree with you here Francois. Although I do believe Korea should be more open and exposed to other cultures, Korea is Korea because of Korean culture for better or worse. Start mixing and changing that culture (that's been around for 5000 years) to a fusion of others then it is no longer Korea. Why come if there is no distinctive culture that made it interesting in the first place? Not every country needs to be like the US where its a melting pot. US culture is really that it really has no culture sadly. Not trying to start a fight bro. I do agree 100% with your statement that internationals need to understand that they are representatives of every foreigner coming to Korea. They are a guest in their home so they should absolutely respect the host. ✌

Yoooo! Disagreements ARE WELCOMED! It sparks thinking and dialogue, and later growth! Maybe I didn't explain my thoughts clearly. I don't think Korea should be like the US, but it means that Korea hasn't had a long history at all with multiculturalism, so seeing foreigners every day close up can be intimidating, maybe. On the contrary, I think Korea is Korea because it's monoethnic culture. The safety, convenience, and work ethic all stem from Joseon, Gongoreyo, and the other smaller kingdoms, which eventually became modern-day Korea. In all, I want Korea to stay Korea, but I don't want foreigners coming here with derelict behavior, making it bad for other foreigners to live here. I want to protect this place where I live!:) And yeah, that girl was a person I should have never dealt with. Glad she's gone, actually. Please feel free to disagree more!!

It's ironic that foreigners who visit Korea like the girl you mentioned want Koreans to do things her way, but can't respect Korea for doing things their way. It's a selfish me-first attitude, which Korean society isn't built on. The concept of jeong isn't because people are all doing things differently. It's because, generally, everyone is doing the same thing acceptable by society. This can be good in some ways and bad in others. But because of this, people can call non-family members hyung, noona, oppa, and unnie. I also wonder if Koreans find it weird if foreigners calls them by these familial terms. I know some Kpop artists tell their fans to stop calling them oppa.
