Who Dies: An Analysis of Hamilton's Hamilton - The Analytic

- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- Sure, he might not be everyone's favorite, but the acclaimed Hamilton musical wouldn't exist if not for its title character: Alexander Hamilton. This week on The Analytic we complete our arduously drawn out Hamilthon by analyzing the qualities that brought the bastard, orphan, son of a whore to his grave.
Sorry for getting this out so late, y'all! Hope it doesn't disappoint.
Can you cover Heathers?
The Analytic dudeeee you are way too woke for me
The Analytic i effin love this, it has effin me up
Have not listened to Heathers - in fact, I hadn't even heard of it until all the comments starting suggesting it here!
I'll be sure to listen to it. If I can make a good script out of it, there's no reason you won't be seeing a Heathers video. But I'm travelling at the moment so it might be a while until I do listen to it. I really appreciate the suggestion, though, and I'll be sure to give the musical a look.
The Analytic be more chill?
i like how you’ve done videos on who lived (burr), who died (hamilton), and who told the story (eliza)
+sage Somebody gets it!
Ha haha hahahahaha
sage yikes it’s more like who lived (Eliza) who died (Hamilton) and who told the story (burr) but I agree
@@HanaValentina I see where you're coming from with burr being the narrator of the show but basically everything personal we know about hamilton came directly from Eliza telling the story when he died, plus narratively in the final duel it's quite literally burr that lives and ham that died so I have to agree with the original comment in regards to which way round they go
@@HanaValentina In the duel, Burr shot Alexander so that means Burr lived. But, When Eliza found out Alexander died, she told his story.
Honestly I think Lauren's death is what pushed Hamilton to his demise.
Think about it. He worked harder because of his death, stressed himself out and goes out with Maria as a result. In the cut verse of hurricane, it is implied that Laurens is like 99% of Hamilton's impulse control and there is nothing stopping him now from writing the Reynold's Pamphlet. If that didnt happen Philip would be alive.
So Lauren's death may have played a large part in Hamilton's downfall
(I know I dun have a lot of info but I can't remember everything and I am not exactly qualified for this)
Stormwinds 13 Yeah, I could definitely see that being the case - honestly, the omission of "Laurens Interlude" on the cast album leads to a major difference in how Hamilton's motivations are perceived, and one of the issues with the Hamilthon (looking back) is that since it primarily focuses on the cast recording, it doesn't acknowledge "Laurens Interlude," and only interprets Hamilton's character development without it, meaning that a lot of my commentary in this video only really applies to the cast recording - not the show at large.
Stormwinds 13 HERCULES MULLIGAN
reminds me of that one incorrect quote
hamilton: laurens is dead so i'm cutting off all sleeves from my shirts
washington: why would you do that
hamillton: he's like 98% of my impulse control
Lams confirmed?
*LAMS IS CANNON BITCHEZ*
Actually, in a scrapped version of The World Was Wide Enough called *Ten Things, One Thing* .We learned more about what Hamilton was thinking before the duel happened, he thought that Burr wouldn't kill him, as proclaimed by: "He's always hated dueling, hated confrontation. I never had his instinct for self-preservation. I feel a sense of calm fill me. It's not in his political interest to kill me."
What makes this more tear-jerking is that he thought that he can get back home before Eliza opens her eyes, as proclaimed by: "God, I can't wait to see her again."
Lin did *not* use this song because he wanted Hamilton to have more of a "hero's death" and made Burr more sympathetic after shooting Hamilton, feeling remorse and guilt over his actions, as proclaimed by the title: "The World Was Wide Enough, for both Hamilton and Me."
Do you know if the lines about Ham's thoughts on Burr are in the album? Because I swear I've heard that before during my first time hearing the show, but I can't remember where I found it...
Yepp he also said
"I know this puts me in a difficult spot but i gotta throw away my shot."
Didnt he?
ThoughtsOfALeo No. *Ten Things, One Thing* got deleted from the album. ALTHOUGH you can find that song on UA-cam. It's actually not that rare, you can find it right off the bat if you type it in the search bar.
In the play hams thoughts..it sounded like a panic attack.. *rise up rise up in running out of time I'm running out of time rise up eyes up eyes up* he only calmed down thinking of his wife *ELIZAAA my love..take your time..I'll see you on the other side..*
Danielle Bennett raise a glass to freedom...
i think the "Raise Glass Too FreeedooOOOOOOOOoommm" line is continuing from Laurens last words
Cal: 64 laurens sang hamilton's lines when he died and hamilton sang laurens line when he died :P
If it were to be the continuation of Laurens' it would be "They'll tell the story of tonight" not "raise a glass to freedom"
Oh?
OHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Now I get it
I read this and I cried soooo hard 😭😭
@MarioMaster 412 Laurens interlude
4:05 *sniffles while holding a ten dollar bill* too soon man, too soon.
If you look at Ten things, One Thing (aka the world is wide enough extended) it shows a deeper personality in Hamilton and Burr, and the monologues are longer and detailed and all the more heartbreaking.
Leila Middleton When I listened to that song, I got so emotional
ok
here me out
“My shot” is the most referenced in the show, but the name of the song itself, isn’t even close to the largest amount of times a name of a song is said throughout the show. Believe it or not, The Room Where It Happens actually is said the most out of all the song titles, being said 50-something times in “The Room Where It Happens”
man, burr really wants to be in that room
"YOU NEVER LEARN TO TAKE YOU TIME" quote by:The Song "ALEXANDER HAMILTON"
I’d like to point out in “Laurens Interlude” John actually sings Alexs part from “The story of tonight” and Alex sings johns part
Burr: Who lives (survives the duel)
Hamilton: Who dies (gets shot)
Eliza: Who tells your story
Hamilton: OMG people in the future will hate me
Now: ~brodway releases hamilton tickets~
Tickets:Sold out in 1 hour
spoiler alert. everybody is dead now. :-(
Then raise your glass to freedom
In one of the workshop songs Ten Things One Thing, Hamilton even has a line “It’s not in his (Burr) interest to kill me I’ve got to throw away my shot”
the art and animation in this is so good!!! everything is good!! the analysis, the script, the format, everything is soooo good!!! it inspires me to stop procrastinating and work on my own videos!! keep it up!
2:28
Your obedient servant is a perfect “villain” song for burr, fight me.
There was this theory I heard and it said that Alex had depression. The person who wrote the theory thought it was because at the beginning of his life or in the song "Alexander Hamilton" his father leaves, his mother dies and his cousin commits suicide. People he loved were leaving him and dying. Alex wondered why he wasn't dead too. Writing was what saved him because he could write down his problems, and he realized he was made to do great things. I was wondering if you could talk about this?
we need a detailed analysis on my story
its as noticed as peggy
oh wait
yeah, no. peggy's probably more noticed than angelica from my experience.
Despite this kinda being a joke I agree. You are not talked about at all. I can already see it, Maria Reynolds, The BETTER American Musical.
Maria Reynolds Why did you do this to Hamilton (srry I had too)
Maria Reynolds you are my fourth favorite character! I love your dress! You're so pretty!
Margarida you mean?
Cheating back then: You are a man of sins
Cheating now: YAAAA!!! person: She was annoying anyways.
big nostrils omg I love the username
For all that talking about, "I am not throwing away my shot." Hamilton threw away his shot. He shot for the sky. Hamilton died because he never backed down and took a shot at everything sure, but in the end he sort of backed down in the end. His world turned upside down early. He could have backed down early and not die. I believe he could have learned from Eliza and learned to be kind and be able to back down. If he backed down then maybe people could have forgiven him and he could have become president instead of Madison. There would have been a twist in history but he would have handeled the 1812 insedent better than Madison after learning his lesson to back down earlier. America could have avoided the war of 1812 and saved many lives with words, but noo, he had to be intellegent but stupid with others and die! Like I said, stupid. I love the musical, don't get me wrong, but Hamilton was thick!
Sry, I had to get that out.
Actually in real life Hamilton fired the gun but missed.
I'm kinda suprised looking at your subscriber count. your videos are very well edited and written! Im curious to see how far you'll go :)
Hamilton’s change does not begin with his final monologue; it begins with Philip’s death (It’s Quiet Uptown).
Your analyses are so great!!! This is so impressive and feeds my obsessive nature.
+BrokenDarkFire Appreciate the compliment!
You deserve so many more subscribers. Your videos are so interesting and I love watching them
+POTATO PLATYPUS Thanks for the compliment! I really appreciate it. 😄 I'll try my best to get up to the subscriber number you guys think I deserve.
He's bassically a CGP Grey who's into musicals and jokes more.
(The Analytic) Oh wow, you actually replied! I've only watched four of your videos and they seem really interesting.
He does have a different style of humor. You seem a little... friendlier I guess? But tbh, I have no idea why you remind me of him... Maybe I'm just watching too much of Mr. Grey!
+Hungarian Barbarian I do hope you enjoyed them. I have a new video coming that I think is even better. But I just need to finish...welll...everything about it. I'm so bad st this UA-cam thing. 😅 I've been so busy!
I'm flattered by the comparison, truly. Thank you for making it and thank you for watching. It would be nice to be as good as Mr. Grey. But for now, Mr. Analytic has some videos to make before that happens.
The Analytic At least you've made videos, that's more than most people will ever do. On top of that they're good videos, which is even better. When I first saw one of your videos, I truly thought you had over 100,000 subs. The quality was that good. It seems the hard work has paid off!
+Hungarian Barbarian Thanks for the compliment! Greatly appreciated. You have no clue.
There’s a deleted song called “Ten Things, One thing” where it was kind of like The World Was Wide Enough but in Hamilton’s perspective. I don’t really know much about duelling but this is a theory I came up as to what could the song be implying.
There was a verse where Hamilton said, “If I shoot first and throw it away, he has to yeild, we both get to live another day. I know this puts me in a difficult spot, but I’ve got to throw away my shot.”
It could be implied that, from this verse, Hamilton planned not to shoot Burr in the first place. He thinks that if he got first position and doesn’t shoot, the duel will end peacefully with nobody dead.
There’s also another verse, explaining to why Hamilton thinks Burr wouldn’t shoot. That verse saying, “I put on my glasses to see if Burr is softening, I see him glaring back at me. He always hated duelling, hated confrontation, I never had his instict for his self-preservation. I feel a sense of calm fill me. It’s not in his political interest to kill me.”
This could be implied that Hamilton misunderstood Burr’s glare as “Why do we have to do this? I hate it.” Or something along that line. Not only that, but he also thought Burr would never be interested in killing him, assuring himself further to ‘throw away his shot’.
And that’s it for today, thank you for coming to my ted talk 😂😂
"The other 51!"
This channel needs to be more appreciated
can you try more musicals? like in the heights or Heathers?
of course these are suggestions, I am excited to see what happens next!
Awkwardly _Rae or Dear Evan Hanson
Or Be More Chill
:''''''') im trash
OR LES MIS
Or Waitress... just saying..
ik this isnt a musical its a play but ............the cursed child?
THAT WAS AMAZING! I JUST WATCH ALL 4 VIDEOS BACK TO BACK. I don't know what to say. I never thought about seeing things in Burr's point of view. So that was something. I can't wait to see what you do next!
"I AM NOT THROWIN MY SHOT"
Me: Hahahahaha JUST U WAIT!
Oh god I'm goin to hell..
PLEASE DO MORE HAMILTON I LOVE THE CONTENT
At school today my friend said : "I'm just a little duck! When I grow up I wanna be a fire hydrant!" Well I changed it and said : " I'm just a little child! When I grow up I wanna be the next Alexander Hamilton! " And I yelled it out so all P.E ( Pointless Exercise ) could hear.
What are your plans for after this? Like what series are you gonna make or is it a surprise? Whatever it is keep up the good work it's awesome
+cditty3 Thanks for the nice compliment, firstly. Next, we have a BUNCH of ideas on what to do next, from analysis of movies (particularly, the animated sort) to Netflix series' to anime (how we started out) to literature (I'm a pretty big reader myself), but we're just trying to figure out what will appeal most to the audience we've cultivated with these last four videos. 😁 Whatever it is, we'll do our best to keep improving and satisfy you guys!
The Analytic can't wait :D😃
The Analytic Well whatever it is I can’t wait! Love these videos! :D
The Analytic why haven’t you uploaded for a year. Did you quit?
I love your videos man, keep them coming :)
"I'll see you next time."
6 months later
Wait longer?
We are actually often told how Hamilton feels or why he acts the way he does, whether it’s through his associates telling us or even him a lot of the time. I’m pretty sure no song doesn’t at least mention him and the majority have him in it. In my shot, we see Hamilton’s dedication to what he wants, in stay alive we see more of what he wants (command), in dear Theodosia we see his peak, where he almost changes for the better, in tomorrow they’ll be more of us or Laurens interlude we see what undoes this and makes him a workaholic again, in take a break his dedication to what he wants is strengthened, in say no to this he literally sings his entire perspective, his beliefs are again reinforced, with this being, like, the second time we see into Burr’s character in depth, and we see his downfall, his redemption, and his death, none of which portray him as a showman and all of which show us his inner self.
As for the laurens lee duel, for one he was really young and secondly it wasn’t entirely unjust. With his affair, I don’t think there is an excuse for this, but he was forgiven, and thus us holding this against him makes no sense when the person who was most negatively affected by this, his wife, chose not to. All of these things you’re saying, while aren’t glamour in every meaning of the word, do have redeeming factors behind them.
While Hamilton is bound to argue, he eventually does accept the advise of others, and does eventually work with Jefferson and Madison, which is him changing, even if grudgingly or based off his legacy.
And honestly, I don’t blame the guy for spreading “a pretty unpopular rumor.” I do blame him for being the cause of said rumor, even if I’ve forgiven the man for it, but trust me, if the beans were spilled by anyone else, it would’ve turned out a lot worse.
And you skipped an important part when going from the Reynolds affair to the duel. Him being forgiven. This his him REALLY changing. He’s using all of the qualities that got him to this point, even if most of them (asides the one that got him to the Reynolds affair) are justifiable, and putting them in a way that can, if not fully fix things, salvage some of what was lost, and repair his marriage. If he had stayed the same, he would’ve tried to charm Eliza into getting back with him, but in the musical, he puts in perspective how much he regrets what he did, and THAT’S what gets him into this forgiveness. This is where he changes. As for him endorsing Jefferson, I mean, if he’d endorsed Burr, and Jefferson didn’t react in any vile way, he would’ve been putting his words to use the same, but it would’ve been viewed as totally fine (same goes if Burr wasn’t such a dick). The only difference in between these two things is your obedient servant, and that’s just Hamilton defending himself, and whether he does it good or bad, anyone would defend themself for simply saying what they believe, especially when these two things are true;
1) the constitution you helped to shape and defend grants you the ability to do this, and
2) The person you’re sending letters to is threatening you.
And this detail you say is in his final monologue is interesting. See, if we ignore Hamilton being forgiven, everything you say in this analysis after the Reynolds affair would be entirely accurate. However, this is where Hamilton changes, right? Well, remember how Hamilton isn’t the one telling his story, but rather the people that perceive him? While I don’t agree with this, after “it’s quiet uptown,” all of the songs aren’t narrated by him until his final monologue. He has moments where he talks, but they’re just him endorsing Jefferson and him arguing with Burr, which I’ll get to. Essentially, it shoulders his perspective, and goes from the perspective of Burr for the most part, with the exception of “who lives, who dies, who tells your story.” With all of Burr’s perspective, we see things the way he views them, which makes Hamilton LOOK immature and LOOK like he hasn’t changed, which only show he’s changed more; he isn’t going out of his way to look good anymore, which shows he isn’t as concerned about legacy. This is expanded further when he literally says “what is a legacy?” The old him is coming back, because if this is where he dies, he wants to be remembered in a good way. He’s changed, and he throws away his shot because he knows, even if it’s at the expense of him, he wants to combine his best qualities; he wants to be remembered, have his legacy portray him as a broken man, *who changed.* He’s changed, and in this moment, the suppressed old him comes back. While this may not be the world’s best choice, he is showing us what he is; flawed. He is struggling to assess what to do, and he puts his best self together in a harmony of good and bad, all shown in one choice. And that’s what this character really is. He’s made bad decisions, but he has redeeming qualities behind him. Similarly, this choice is indeed a bad one, but he comes back at the end of the day with a good underlying logic. This isn’t historically accurate (he had no “final monologue,” he might’ve just thought burr wouldn’t shoot or he might’ve just not wanted to kill him in real life, no one will ever know (he probably didn’t want to be seen as a murderer but didn’t want to be seen as a good and bad man) but in the musical it’s clear; he starts good, then turns bad, but he comes back as a good man with obvious flaws, and he wants to be remembered that way, and THAT’S why he does what he does.
Sooooo...pretty much...Mr. Analytic isn't a fan of Hamilton at ALL? (The Character, not the musical as a whole lol)
'im throwing away my shot' - hamilton
*remembers the song he sang last minute*
WAIT BURR PAU-
Angie talks about it in the song Congratulations
I love hamilton but im only 10 and can't see the actual musical but your videos are amazing and I hope you do more hamilton. Who are your favorite characters mine are Eliza and PEGGY!!!!
+Rachel Avalos Thanks! Personally, my favorite character would have to be Aaron Burr. Eliza would probably come second.
OMG you actually replied i freaking freaking out right no
Rachel Avalos omg same
SaMe but my favorite character is Washington
Rachel Avalos YAS IM ONLY JUST OLD ENOUGH
"Yes student number 2?"
You analyze all these complex Hamilton characters but you can't remember the damn students name.
Thank you for this!! I love this series, please make more series like this :D
Hu I never thought of what washington said "you have no control, who lives who dies who tells your story" I always thought he spoke about himself and not how he catched on to Hamilton's obssession right from the start. Interesting.
Wait do one more.
Laurens.
My favorite character is Hamilton I just feel bad for him the only bad thing he did (in the musical) was cheat on his wife and wrote about it.
I have the same birthday as Lin-Manuel Miranda. Fight me. January 16th babies UNITE
love love love your videos man! I am so glad I found you and I am so excited to see what you have in store for the future!
So I found you through Hamilton videos and if the pigs (the HAMiltons HA) and cat (Aaron Purr has legit become a future cat name I'm considering, no joke) didn't get me, your analysis and insight definitely hooked me. These videos are great! You just got a new subscriber! I can't wait to go through more of your content!
I love this channel! I'm so surprised that this channel doesn't have more subs it's great!
man I love your channel, really, I cant wait to the nexts videos
All I will say is that Hamilton saved his shot until he died. He saved his shot not for burr, but for his legacy
You're awsome I subbed you need 1k already what kind of vids will you do after this I enjoyed this
Hello? Mr. Analytic?? R u still there? When will your next video come out
:( and is it Hamilton?
Your videos have gotten better, I hope you plan to keep your channel going because your analysis of things is always good
As soon as I heard Lafayette in the end card I started singing
Your videos are actually really thought provoking and awesome!
5:13 is what i look like when i wake up
I've just gotten a new understanding of one of my favorite musicals of all time
i am willing to wait for this: Analysis of Phillip Hamilton -The Analytic
Are we forgetting that in one of the deleted songs Hamilton litterally laughs at Burr for being sad that Theodosia (his wife) died?
Exactly a year ago siy
Dude please upload again
Hey man, I really like your analysis and video style; I hope you start releasing more consistent content. I'll subscribe just in case, so don't keep us waiting too long.
So in the end, Hamilton threw away his shot and burr didn’t wait for it 😭
You should analyze some of the workshop songs.
3:24 drawing Hamilton if you hurt Samuel Seabury I swear to God I will erase you to this world....don't hurt my baby
Seriously great. Thanks for the upload!
Very good, sir. Entertaining for the super HamFan. However, you speak REALLY fast and it is difficult to understand everything you're saying because words run together. Slow down and try to enunciate a little bit clearer and I'm sure you will have many more subscribers.
For those interested in the real lives of Hamilton and Burr, and who don't mind actually reading words on a page, please seek out L-MM's source material, which was Ron Chernow's "Alexander Hamilton". Also, a slightly different fictional perspective is offered in Gore Vidal's "Burr".
I just wanna point out when they pulled up that drawing from the rolls per foot you can see maria Reynolds just turning back to Hamilton not smiling but she has a IPHONE!!!
So no new episodes or...
i know people say the reyonolds phamplet isn’t the downfall of Hamilton.... *but I think it’s when Laurens died, change my mind*
It’s becuz Hamilton knew he couldn’t control who tells his story that he made sure to retain his honor in the end. He throws away his shot to preserve his honor, same reason he decided to publish the Reynolds Pamphlet.
This was a very informative video, but the best part was, "Well he never gonna be president now!"
Edit: I really did enjoy this video, I was just being stupid.
Couldn't explain it any better
Hamilton DID shoot at Burr. He just ended up hitting a tree behind him.
No I'm pretty sure he shot at the sky......
Lol you added George and Philip to the Reynolds thing
Person: so lets look at what turned the world upside down.
Me: (screaming) LAURENS INTERLUDE
i thought ham changed after philip's death.
Ok so the reason Peggy isn't noticed that much is because she dies young of an illnes in 1801.
Someone might have said this but in take a break Hamilton says " I hope you understand another Scottish tragedy without my having to name the place" this place is said to be bad luck to say Lin knew this and after this his life started to go downhill affair, dead son, Washington going home ect
Fun fact:
SOME historians think that Hamilton was the first person to shoot, but missed. Burr being frightened, shot secondly and like we know now, killed him.
The antllaytic- draws Jefferson
Me-omg its perfect-
Wow! This is so good!
If you hear Ten Things One Thing it's even sadder
where did this guy go? i love these videos
So
When's the next video
I want more ham. And i need it right now.

I am now going through a existential crisis...
Relatable
More? Maybe not Hamilton. But something else?
0:40 America you great unfinished symphony you sent for me, a place where I could make a difference a place where even orphan immigrants can leave their fingerprints and rise up, I’m running out of time’s up wise up eyes up...
they say the world turned upside down in the world turned upside down
If Hamilton just said NO to mariah he wouldn't lose his reputation + philip won't die + Happy ending.
