@cannotthinkofaname we don't actually see it as that scandalous. Also makng fun of the royal family, thats fucking funny to us, we all do it everyday, keeps us thinking they are normal people and so makes what they do normal as well
@@MC-jr1bs Divorce stats are up here as well but you seem to be implying that divorce means someone cheated on another person, which I would argue isn't necessarily the case. Also in our version of DWTS, Strictly Come Dancing there was furore over one of the contestants simply snogging his dance partner whilst both were in relationships. "We don't know American history!" True. In a history textbook for a class that I took this past year, it mentioned Hamilton wrote the Reynolds Pamphlet, and I was like "what's that?" and no one knew. A musical taught me more about America than a textbook did. Thank you Lin-Manuel Miranda!
My son has been homeschooled his whole school career. But my mistake is that I went with the charter school’s curriculum out of pressure from the school. With the current affairs of the country and after my son saw Hamilton (thanks to the education program through his amazing charter school’s new principal), I’ve realized how lacking he is in his early American history knowledge. And that changes NOW.
Wtf do you mean the musical taught you more than the textbook?! You literally just said that the book referred to the Reynolds Pamphlet! Maybe you should have actually paid attention to what you were reading.
@@RavenclawStudent123 No, it's not and that's important to keep in mind. At the same time we wouldn't be talking about this in the first place if it didn't exist. My general view is that accuracy in historically based works of entertainment is of secondary importance to getting people to talk about that history in the first place. That's exactly what makes it so great; you can *tell* he put his heart and soul into every little detail. He made sure Hamilton could speak to everyone, even if it was just one part of the musical. Doesn't hurt that he's genuinely an awesome, nice, and funny dude.
I’m a Londoner and have seen Hamilton here- the audience loved it. The King George scenes had us in stitches. Lin is a genius, I saw him performing in ‘In the Heights’ many moons ago, I was blown away and he continues to astound me.
That "tug" tweet is actually my favorite tweet of his. It was my instant way of cheering up. I did not realize that he wrote that in passing of Bourdain.
Lou, he's both composed and written lyrics for 3 Broadway musicals and one film, reinterpreted lyrics for another Broadway musical, in addition to acting, and writing additional songs for projects as varied as SNL, Sesame Street, awards shows, and House.
Hopefully harry won't be one of the family for long, we dont like her, divorce soon harry please. Oh and the kids actually as heirs belong to the queen ,MM WILL HAVE TO STAY IN LONDON...
Honestly, not knowing American history is almost a plus going in to the musical. No spoilers. I remember the first time I heard Guns & Ships, I was getting hyped for who was about to be introduced, expecting it to be Hamilton. When 'Lafayette' was sung, I literally shouted 'who the f is THAT?! It should be Hamilton!'. Which I've since been told is likely a direct quote from Alexander Hamilton.
As I said, I know next to nothing about American history and absolutely nothing about Hamilton or Lafayette. I knew Hamilton was from the Caribbean but when they said 'favourite fighting frenchman', I just kind of assumed they meant 'French-Caribbean'. Not like there aren't a lot of people of french descent in the Caribbean.
??? I'm American, I know absolutely NOTHING about American History, I had no idea who Lafayette or Hamilton was but I didn't get confused about that. I knew it was someone different - mainly because he was introduced in My Shot, like Mulligan and Laurens.
I’ve never seen him interviewed before. What a sweetheart he seems. It’s good to see a young man in love with words ... they’re so much less fashionable than images are in these days of instasnap everything.
You should check out James Cordon's Broadway carpool karaoke with him. I think that was actually the first thing I watched with him 'speaking' (a tiny bit ) that triggered a marathon UA-cam-watch-all-his-interviews stint. And I'm not a huge carpool karaoke fan (I mean, it's cool; but I've only seen a few... I've probably watched that single one more than all others combined!); I'm not really a 'celebrity' person generally, but he just comes across as someone you'd like to know & have great conversations with - anywhere I've seen him speak, from PR hurricane fundraising to actual sit down interviews, he always seems the same. (I've not really seen them all! 😉) I' think I'll now follow him on twitter & hope for some beautiful 'twitter poetry' like that - he even makes friends that way! What amazing departure from 'twitter norm' in every way! As a linguist (& younger than he is), I also appreciate his artistic, somehow soothing vocabulary. I can also assure you I know many young philologists - not a dying breed. ☺ , (And for the love of words, may I recommend Alexander McCall Smith's '44 Scotland Street' & 'The Sunday Philosophy Club'/ Isabel Dalhousie series. He is a man who makes words dance on the page. Also, Jasper Fforde's 'Thursday Nsxt' series - a completely different kind of wordsmith, absolutely in a league of his own.)

God I wish I could sit down with Lin Manuel Miranda and just talk music theory for like an hour then rock out to some musicals. He is my hero, the one who told me through Hamilton that anything is possible and that’s why I’m going to University to study and grow as a music composer.
Where do I even start? I could listen to Lin talk all day long. He is honestly one of the sweetest and purest people out there in this nasty world we currently live in. It truly is an honour to be living in a time where a genius such as he roams the world at the same time as I. I have loved every creation of Lins and was very fortunate enough to see Hamilton in London a month ago, it was everything I ever dreamed it could be and more! I will continue to look forward to new works from him in the coming future and look forward to ‘what comes next’ in this beautiful career he has created for himself. You be you Lin, you’re rocking it! Siempre, Lauren.
"G'Morning, G'Night!" was given to me as a gift a few months ago. I started reading a few pages every night before bed to relax and get ready to sleep. I've read it three times now and it's just as sweet as the first time through.
Lin is such a cinnamon roll and a blessing to everyone in this planet. He is literally my inspiration for everything. I constantly ask myself, “what would Lin do?” Or, “Would Lin be proud of me?” He’s the only moral compass I’ll ever need. He makes everyone feel loved and wanted, and his beautiful words leave permanent impact
I'm British, just watched Hamilton on Disney+ and i thought it was absolutely incredible. We really do love it when you take the piss and we deserve it! We were sending red coats left, right & center to invade. British aristocracy was full of corrupt, spoiled children with too much power...wait i don't think much has changed...
Well it was much more the red coats, we had no voice in parliament and as a subject of England we thought we ought too. We never wanted to leave in the start.. then soliders could go into our houses and eat our food whenever they wanted, high taxes on stamps and goods like tea (Hot and cold tea is popular in the USA still) so we left..
I havent read his book, but just his morning and night tweets mean a lot to me. I started following him on twitter around the time my mother got admitted to the hospital. I spent the first few nights in the room with her, and right before I went to sleep I would read his good night tweet. When I woke up, I would read his good morning tweet. They made me feel so safe and comfortable. Like everything was going to be fine. "Gmorning, STUNNER The skies are grey & might open up in a bit but I care not a whit Cuz you’re HERE" Thank you, Lin, for making that very difficult time a little easier.
I feel like when Hamilton has it's final show on Broadway the entire original cast will come back and do it ' One Last Time'. Can we get a petition for that.
Honestly... this show is gonna run for an extremely long time. Decades. Will probably be the longest continually running show in Broadway history when all is said and done. I’m in my mid 30s, and if I live a full life into my 80s, it honestly would not shock me if Hamilton is still on Broadway (on its 45th cast but still from its original run) the day I pass.
geoff mcclelland Shakespeare didn’t really invent any words. He added unusual prefixes or suffixes to already existing words, or slightly altered existing words. For example, he is credited with Lonely, using -ly instead of -some in the usual lonesome how many would use for heavenly. He mainly did this because ly was often the proper stress for his pentameter scheme, and Un- as a prefix was used by Shakespeare a lot to alter existing words to fit his schemes. But as far as inventing completely unique never before seen words, no. They’re all existing words with a slight twist. Same as a regular joe saying “Yeah the line was slowish.” Not inventing a word, slanging an already existing word.
Just back from the UK. Saw Hamilton in the West End. Yes, it had more humor and the actors (especially the King) played it up for laughs in places the actors didn't when I saw the US tour! It was so fun!
I agree. Saw it last summer in London and the cast was absolutely vibrant and astonishing. I’ve seen it in New York (not with Lin-Maneul,) on tour in Houston, and in London and the London production was my fave and now we have the Disney+ version with original cast. Yea!!!
Part of the reason for that is that you have always heard the same version. but when Lynn hears it he's also trying to sort through all the previous drafts that led up to the final version and is partly trying to remember which version ended up as the final.
I saw Hamilton in London this last spring, and it was magical and beautiful and perfect. And a lot of self depreciating laughter at George III. Because obviously.
Quick correction: At around 4:51, Lin says that Alexander Hamilton's cousin offered financial assistance to get him to New York, which is partially true. However Lin said the cousin was "Rachel Faucette," which is actually the name of Hamilton's deceased mother. The cousin who helps Alexander was Rachel's niece, Ann Lytton Venton.
fla la he means that, we don’t really know our own history because it was the past- and no ones here to prove some of the facts, but papers from 1700s-1800s can prove some.
As an English person I can confirm, taking the mick out of the royal family is practically a tradition at this point :P Someone send Blackadder over to the US :D Also, do you lot /not/ laugh at innuendo???
Rae E not really. We sort of prefer sex jokes to be shocking and out of nowhere. British innuendo can be pretty novel when we see it, but we consider it to me completely understated.
George III was one of the barmiest monarchs in a barmy period for our barmy country. If we can’t laugh at him, we can’t laugh at anything. Dude smeared mustard on his face and took shots of mercury to cure his insanity. Wacky chap.
But it wasn't innuendo. He stated quite plainly that he had been sleeping with Theodosia "I am keeping her bed warm while her husband is away." What's funny about that ?
Rae E We have had Blackadder come to the States courtesy of PBS. I've seen all four series, Back and Forth, and the Cavalier Years. Just marvelous work all around. Rowan Atkinson is a treasure. As for innuendo, it depends on who says it, how, and what it is. Personally, I admire subtle wit.

i know right?! we /need/ a west end recording asap!!
The Philosopher's Phone it just feels uncomfortable because you never heard them as much singing one of your loved songs, and you’re so used to the original cast.I only watched the original cast recordings so im still feeling weird because I watch so many videos about the original cast...
I bet whoever chooses who gets the role is really good and chooses the most talented and near vocal range one so i’m not too worried qwq
that's so nice to hear. I'm from Greece and I'll go to London in June to see Hamilton and I was so worried I'd keep comparing them to the original, especially since I've also seen a bootleg from the Broadway one :/
that's so good to hear. I'm from Greece and I'm going to London in June to see Hamilton and i was afraid I'll just be comparing the cast to the original all the time. Thanks for the reassurance.
I so agree with you. I saw Hamilton two weeks ago in London and it blew me away. Folks, don't be worried. Those guys were amazing!
“The hug you need, you give to somebody else.” That is such a sweet sentiment
That's why I like Stephen, he's so genuine
This musical is not 100% accurate but then again, I'm more interested in trying to make it accurate 😬
@@RavenclawStudent123 No, it's not and that's important to keep in mind. At the same time we wouldn't be talking about this in the first place if it didn't exist. My general view is that accuracy in historically based works of entertainment is of secondary importance to getting people to talk about that history in the first place. If people just want to learn accurate history then they can go watch documentaries, dang it.
And now I hear that theme from that famous Ken Burns documentary playing in my head...
@@dildoniusall she said was that it was mentioned in the textbook. If it wasn't explained in the textbook, she wouldn't be able to read about it from the textbook

Hi, a brit who's never seen the show, i giggled, not gonna lie, and i dont know why. Its not that the line is 'saucy' per say, but that its the kind of thing not mentioned in society. If you're cheating, you keep it quiet.

OMG I hated that Stephen missed that little joke
I’m British actually expected the interview’s audience to do the “ooo” !
The “ooo” is more like something cheeky and funny that the guy would be admitting it and so cocky about it.
Yeah when I first saw I laughed aswell Im from scotland and my exact reaction was something along the lines of “oooooo ya wee dirty😂”
I'm from America I saw it in Chicago, and like, so what's the deal? Are Americans just so open and sexual or is it some other cultural thing lol
@@hardlyhere9348 if anything it's the opposite - Brits are really open about sex but just find it funny.
It's why we have so many shows based around sex that probably wouldn't air in the US (like Naked Attraction 😂)

The song says "Favourite fighting Frenchman" and you thought of Hamilton? Last time I checked he wasn't French
Omg me toooooo

I've watched many of his interviews. He might be the most positive and enthusiastic human alive.
Also he always seems super humble and down to earth, so is a pleasure hear him.
I' think I'll now follow him on twitter & hope for some beautiful 'twitter poetry' like that - he even makes friends that way! What amazing departure from 'twitter norm' in every way!
As a linguist (& younger than he is), I also appreciate his artistic, somehow soothing vocabulary. I can also assure you I know many young philologists - not a dying breed. ☺

(And for the love of words, may I recommend Alexander McCall Smith's '44 Scotland Street' & 'The Sunday Philosophy Club'/ Isabel Dalhousie series. He is a man who makes words dance on the page. Also, Jasper Fforde's 'Thursday Nsxt' series - a completely different kind of wordsmith, absolutely in a league of his own.)

What words has he invented
geoff mcclelland Shakespeare didn’t really invent any words.
Same as a regular joe saying “Yeah the line was slowish.”
Not inventing a word, slanging an already existing word.

Quick correction: At around 4:51, Lin says that Alexander Hamilton's cousin offered financial assistance to get him to New York, which is partially true. However Lin said the cousin was "Rachel Faucette," which is actually the name of Hamilton's deceased mother. The cousin who helps Alexander was Rachel's niece, Ann Lytton Venton.

i’m from the UK 🇬🇧 + we are mostly just taught about our _own_ political histories (Tudors, WW1 WW2 etc)
fla la he means that, we don’t really know our own history because it was the past- and no ones here to prove some of the facts, but papers from 1700s-1800s can prove some.
As an English person I can confirm, taking the mick out of the royal family is practically a tradition at this point :P Someone send Blackadder over to the US :D
Also, do you lot /not/ laugh at innuendo???
Rae E
not really. We sort of prefer sex jokes to be shocking and out of nowhere. British innuendo can be pretty novel when we see it, but we consider it to me completely understated.
There are a lot of people that find certain lines, like Burr's, uncomfortable. The rest of us are smiling or giggling (wasn't that the intention?).
George III was one of the barmiest monarchs in a barmy period for our barmy country. If we can’t laugh at him, we can’t laugh at anything.
Dude smeared mustard on his face and took shots of mercury to cure his insanity.
Wacky chap.
But it wasn't innuendo. He stated quite plainly that he had been sleeping with Theodosia
"I am keeping her bed warm while her husband is away." What's funny about that ?
Rae E We have had Blackadder come to the States courtesy of PBS. I've seen all four series, Back and Forth, and the Cavalier Years. Just marvelous work all around. Rowan Atkinson is a treasure. As for innuendo, it depends on who says it, how, and what it is. Personally, I admire subtle wit.
