I feel in love with this train, it was a train that inspired me being a rail fan. When I discovered it was scrapped, I was shocked. This was one of the trains that got me into these stuff, even though I’ve never seen it, it’s gone. May this train Rest In Peace.
For all those asking why it was abandoned - i found this in a news article: And if you’re wondering why these 373s were abandoned and not reused elsewhere, well, it seems like a few factors were in play. Technology had simply moved on, leaving these 22-year-old trains out of date. It was also more cost efficient to bring in a modern fleet rather than overhaul these existing trains, especially as the replacements had a greater seating capacity, meaning more money over less time. In the end, therefore, many of the 373s were deemed “life-expired.”
Well anyways they still use the e300 or class 373 but they refurbished it!!!! I didn’t get to rid it yet but they did refurbish them and in fact I heard they still use the original e300
When you consider Class 37s and older diesels are still working on mainline duties after 60 years, it does make you wonder how these can be so obsolete after a couple of decades.
This train should be in a museum or change it into a railway restaurant or a railway hotel is actually a great idea and not to be abandon in a place like this. Seeing this train slowly breaking apart after what this train done for us human bring us from one place to another is just sad.
Simple, undeniable fact of life; things wear out. The mileage on that thing must be insane after 10+ years! I've also noticed in the comments a lot of people saying it has serious structural rot due to the salty atmosphere it's been operated in for it's entire service life. It's not operable on standard railways (in the U.K.) and anyway, it's not as simple as a few replacement windows and a lick of paint! There's still the structural rot to deal with and that would be a big, expensive, time-consuming undertaking. Sad but true.
Yes but I'm sure the damage wasn't irreparable before it was left to abandonment. After however many years of being abandoned sure your right its probably not worth saving now but I bet at the time of abandoning it, it was well enough off to be fixed
They are completely worn out with rocket mileage and extensive corrosion. Apparently this is due to the atmosphere in the tunnel being highly corrosive. They are not suitable for any other mainline working and have huge power demands. The ones scrapped in the UK go direct from their last service to a proper scrap facility where hopefully they are reduced to their bare metals and recycled. Sadly any form of restoration or heritage working isn't really an option which is a shame as these units were groundbreaking in connecting two capitals separated by the English channel. Why this unit has ended up like this seems to be unexplained but if its their train on their track I suppose they're entitled to do what they like with it. Not good PR though as we all are becoming more environmentally aware
I’m not sure it’s fair to say they weren’t suitable for other main line working, one set was used on the London to Leeds route, known as The White Rose. I traveled on it when it was operated by GNER.
James Seward-Prior the electronics are 286 based architecture they are badly corroded and pull so much power that they would reduce the amount of trains usable on a section, add to that they were built to initial tunnel regulations means they are a nightmare to service, great trains but no upgradeability and so power hungry they aren’t able to relocate
I rode the Eurostar from Brussels to London in 1997. It was an incredible, amazing experience. Being from the US I had never seen anything like it. Sad to see the original configuration has been reduced to scrap. I guess that's called progress.
RIP class 373. Luckily some sets have been fully refurbished to work with Eurostar still and work on rail networks in France however the original Eurostars have sadly been abandoned/scrapped
Looking at the virtually intact structure of the carriages that are dry and still full of seating - why isn't this and other trains due to be scrapped used as temporary shelter for the homeless? Somewhere they can take shelter from the elements, such as the recent so-called "Beast from the East". Maybe the buffet car can be used as a soup kitchen? It just seems so wrong to let all this unused potentially useable space fall victim to vandals.
Jinty7109 fan You are thinking the wrong way. This needs to be shredded for scrap. Shelters for the homeless can be made from much more suitable materials, 100x cheaper and in much more suitable places eg City centres and not limited to remote sidings with no access.
Jinty7109 fan You are quite perceptive I do like smashing up model railway equipment but my favourite method is treating it like a golf ball and playing full shots with a sand iron. I'm a good golfer and you would be amazed how the engines and carriages shatter into a huge number of pieces when hit at high speed. This is a great way to separate the plastic from copper bearing motors, both of which can then be recycled. I don't throw them out windows though. Also stamping on them with heavy boots is a good way to scrap them. However none of that is relavent to your asinine comment that this EMU would make a suitable shelter for homeless people.
Well Jinty7109 fan, I do get them from fairly cheap sources like boot sales and the like, or even for free, and I do sell copper bearing motors and other metals as scrap. You are probably right though. But what price does good entertainment cost? I can spend a whole day enjoying smashing up piles of trains and other toys or electronic goods that I got for say £25 whereas someone else could spend £300 going to an away football match which is really boring or their team loses and they had a crap day by the time they have paid for travel, hotel bills, meals, and tickets. So they spend £300 and have a bad time. I spend £25 and have a great one, and I can sell the copper and scrap afterwards. Who is wasting the most money? Or people spend £100's on a bottle of wine which is gone after they drink it. It's all of a question of pleasure and cost benefit. Whereas, I still have the scrap to sell :D
Baa! That's always the same with urbex people and rail fans. Many of them trespass or break and enter themselves to get pictures etc. This is in a deserted siding miles from anywhere. Homeless people need proper facilities, heated, and close to food and medical help if needed. These rail fans wanting to make it into a homeless shelter do not have a clue!
It's so sad :(, Because these lovely trains have been serving us from London to France! there one of the only trains in the world, who carries us over sea, and now they're introducing new trains! I would so anything to save these Class 373 TGV TMST! R.I.P

So sad - heartbreaking - because I am a loving fan For EUROSTARS! Just rode on one from Paris to London and London to Brussels a few weeks ago! Amazing ride - topped the top speed with 334 km /hr! Was announced on the onside board system!!👍👍
Ha! that will never happen, trying to get high speed rail between Chicago and St. Louis, all new track work, new stations, this has been going on for more than three years now. Plus this route is pretty much single track, how is that going to work. Besides most Amtrak trains are never on time anyway, I live in a small town about 80 miles southwest of Chicago and this line is also shared with freight traffic. The only high speed right now is between Dwight Ill and Pontiac Ill which is only about 20 miles. What a joke!
I am so upset I never got to experience to be in those older Eurostars. This was my favorite train as a kid. It's such a shame I never got the chance to experience this amazing train. I'll never get the chance to experience it
I hope one day, maybe even campaign for it myself, that one full set is refurbished back to how it was in 1994 and used for heritage high speed journeys & railtours.
I'd love to have the whole engineers deck console in my living room!!!!!! Completely awesome looking,,phones in it,,gauges,,warning lamps,,,,were these trains all electric only??
Sad to see, but these trains were complex, power hungry and not very reliable. They are unsuitable for use anywhere else so it's not surprising that they've been left to rot.
Because it's been dumped in the EU and they have money to burn. We stick to the recycling rules here, in France they don't, just like many other "laws". It really is that sad and that simple.
Oh yeah btw the eurostar was scrapped because it had an engine problem when running on snow so thats why this beauty is scrapped BUT they have a newer eurostar it has no problem running on snow
Problem is that the US has a much wider gauge than the UK and Europe, so it would require pointless heavy modification which would cost more than just building a completely new unit
Kacper Krakowski not really. If they didn't want people to see this, they would have scrapped it instead of leaving it to rot and have selfish wankers come vandalise it.
It is in Valenciennes in France. There's a big railyard there and you can see it above or drag the yellow man and see it through the trees on the road nearby. Google maps confirms this actually happened and ia not a myth. Be a good CEO of a rail company if you are one and don't scrap these trains.
its ashame how we build shit then leave it - for the glory years of service just to be thorwn away like garbage - its a dam shame that old loco's and carriges have o endure the total elements of there fate which in a humans eye is to destroy what ever they build or make ...
With technology advancing at an ever faster pace. It is okay to occasionally look back to where we started. From chopper dc traction to ac variable frequency.

So sad - heartbreaking - because I am a loving fan For EUROSTARS! Just rode on one from Paris to London and London to Brussels a few weeks ago! Amazing ride - topped the top speed with 334 km /hr! Was announced on the onside board system!!👍👍
100 likes 100 long eurostar and 893M saves for the cutest eurostar EVER we will miss you
Que triste por qué lo abandonó alguien me dice 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 era mí tren favorito
So Europe, if you guys don't need those high speed trains anymore, we'll take them. - America
They'd probably just end up at Dryden AFB alongside all the thousands of abandoned aircraft!
iliketrains0pwned Thats a great joke XD but yea wouldnt be suprised if they used them in that state with the amount of Amtrack funding
Where are you gonna put those high speed trains? On the acela line?
Ha! that will never happen, trying to get high speed rail between Chicago and St.

I'll never get the chance to experience it
some still run :D also its not entierly the same but based of tgv
I hope one day, maybe even campaign for it myself, that one full set is refurbished back to how it was in 1994 and used for heritage high speed journeys & railtours.
it is so sad save the eurostar
one like is one eurostar
A poignant and intelligently edited film highlighting the wastage inseparable from our technological progress.
Sure its just been used for spares. All old trains get left out in the rain.
Sad
I'd love to have the whole engineers deck console in my living room!!!!!! Completely awesome looking,,phones in it,,gauges,,warning lamps,,,,were these trains all electric only??
Sadly every passenger car is now in the facility and likely scraped but the two Engines are still outside. But probably not for long. So sad...
this is sad seeing the fastest train in the world
Sorry but it never was the "fastest train"
@@JohnMitch true but its powerful as hell
50°22'43"N 3°32'41"E on Google maps
I couldn’t find it
@@chriggle1 because it has been scrapped :(
@@TMIX_TEAM :(
damn didnt realise it had been scrapped
Would have been quite interesting to see the state of the engine and generators etc too
It is fully electric.
Ye but it still has an engine and a generator. So does the TGV
it makes me hot in the heart it's sad to see an abandoned train
Man that's cool how you mixed up the past with the present! Great film!
Sad to see, but these trains were complex, power hungry and not very reliable. They are unsuitable for use anywhere else so it's not surprising that they've been left to rot.
The rolling stock could have been passed along to any number of railway museums for public enjoyment.
.
That driver control panel was pretty sick
R. Crompton yes id love to see that! (But sadly I cant)
Oh they will but there are only so many railway museums in the world.
Finally, a video without the crap voiceover
I know this is stupid but I find things like this so sad and wasteful.🙁
Daniel Nimmo. Just crap music.
Daniel Nimmo k
YES!
The saddest thing here was the music.
Like if you agree.
*we have same profile image*
I really hate high speed trains but guys, this time you made me cry.
Great video
I love these. Do you know where this abandoned one is so I can go see it?
High Speed 43 Thanks Mate! I want to go so I can see this unit. As this is one I haven't got underlined in my number book yet
High Speed 43 Ok. Thanks Mate!
Here it is: 50.378467, 3.542801
It's in Valencienne, France. You can clearly see the Eurostar cab on Google earth.
Isaac Brown Thank You!!!
High Speed 43 thanks for the great info because you can clearly see a train with a yellow drivers cab in the siding
Why don't they recycle the train??
Because it's been dumped in the EU and they have money to burn. We stick to the recycling rules here, in France they don't, just like many other "laws". It really is that sad and that simple.
I think they would do better to retrain the train. ; )
I love these trains like the eurster :(
why is it using up siding space ?? why are holding on to it?
Good to see a video from your channel again!
why is it abandoned?
First off, why are there vandalised murals on the abandoned train ? 😡😡😡😡😡😡
GAMEMASTER THX bc gangs
Bc it’s abandons so no one really owns it and it’s just like that so you can easily get to it despite watching out for other trains
Why can’t they just reuse this train instead of scraping it it would last a longer time
Turn it into a home for the homeless (coach)the engine I don’t know
@@jadspokemoncards275 I was just thinking about that too.
They cant because its too rotten from the seasalt covering up the train and rusting it so they had to go.... :(
Oh yeah btw the eurostar was scrapped because it had an engine problem when running on snow so thats why this beauty is scrapped
BUT they have a newer eurostar it has no problem running on snow
But they can fix the problem too and so he can not to be scrapt
I never thought I would feel sad for a machine 😞rip euro star
Me too
I wish it was in the us but we can’t 😭😱😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Problem is that the US has a much wider gauge than the UK and Europe, so it would require pointless heavy modification which would cost more than just building a completely new unit
Please pray for Eurostar 😭😭😭😭😭
What Eurostar doesn't want you to see
Kacper Krakowski not really. If they didn't want people to see this, they would have scrapped it instead of leaving it to rot and have selfish wankers come vandalise it.
Hunter Railcar its a joke
Kacper Krakowski True. These should have been used on the ECML
Wow that bar is just....ruined. Everything actually. Just destroyed. RIP nice eurostar
Nice documentary, and rather fitting music. Sad to see, but thank you for sharing.
i showed the video to my boss ....hes crazy and have weird ideas.....he wants to buy it......
He should
Where did you find this train?
Its in the north of France, you can find him in st saulve (not so far from Valenciennes)
Google maps shows it parked near the railyard in Valenciennes
It's not there anymore
It is in Valenciennes in France. There's a big railyard there and you can see it above or drag the yellow man and see it through the trees on the road nearby. Google maps confirms this actually happened and ia not a myth. Be a good CEO of a rail company if you are one and don't scrap these trains.
@@bussesandtrains1218 then where is it did england buy the train
its ashame how we build shit then leave it - for the glory years of service just to be thorwn away like garbage - its a dam shame that old loco's and carriges have o endure the total elements of there fate which in a humans eye is to destroy what ever they build or make ...
freddi o they can’t help it if they can’t afford it.
Ya

With technology advancing at an ever faster pace. It is okay to occasionally look back to where we started. From chopper dc traction to ac variable frequency.
wow,where IT stoped ?
If they are people living on it then ok at least it's getting some use
cecil tagg shelter for the homeless at the very least I think
cecil tagg it is
😭😭😭😭😭😭 lloré un montón
Bonjours, il y a également un Eurostar en cour de démantèlement à Romilly sur Seine, ça fait plus d'un an qu'il est aux ateliers de Romilly.
But the livery of the train remained!!! Beautiful video!!!
