I had my original version of the game on my DVD. I never updated it, only had the 6 old maps, and not to mention before 1946 I had only 3. Just 2 days ago though, my DVD of the original game broke, so I purchased it on steam... I almost had a stroke. I hadn't updated the thing from the original dvd, and my god was I in for a surprise. New effects, which looked awesome, ground effects, new planes, bigger battles and so many more maps oh gosh.... That's a proper video game updating. The support still keeps it alive, to the point where I can't believe it.
Gabriel Gianni nah he still makes the occasional videos. You can't blame him though, he went through some pretty bad stuff. He father dying and all that.

I have this game. I love it just because the flight physics and the detail of the models are unmatched. The destruction system just works so well and the planes are so detailed it is just amazing.
Hands down the best game I've ever played. I was with Rogue Saints back in '11. I got to be a good pilot after about a year playing every evening. Get a head tracker and a good joystick. One of our best fighter pilots flew with the keyboard. He was also a bang on high altitude bombardier.

IL-2 Forgotten Battles was really where IL-2 came into it's own as a flight sim, I still keep an install of this older version around. Its best to have the "expansion pack" installed and I am careful to have an exta set of these around as well. Great to see this sim still gets the love !!!

Salute to you Sir! and yehawww i love flyin the corsair-c version with the 4 20mm cannons with 25% fuel load set un-limited, simple engine management, all physics on and here's the best part... with no cockpit view in that view lurks that great flight-path indicator just like in a great shuttle landing simulation.. it helps me feel what that mighty Corsair was doing at say, 50mph indicated airspeed love that plane love that game
i meant the view with the gun reticle plus the flight-path indicator and no other cockpit stuff too, cause i fly with no labels either best to attack b-29's from above with a ton of airspeed, btw

I played this from the time I was six, I'm eighteen now, but I loved it, we used to have a mod, and my father and I made a mission where you bombed a japanese held pearl harbor with a nuke and there was so much AAA that you may do your job well, but I NEVER made it back to base, a wing would burn off, there'd be a random fuel tank detonation, fucking good time.

Even the origional IL-2 patched to 1.20 was head and shoulders above its competition. The only possible limitation was its Russian orientation, only 3 german flyables, and most western folks were more familier with Luftwaffe birds. I STILL run the origional IL-2 on my older laptops and its still great....!!!!
1/3 of the fun of this game was getting damaged and trying to keep the plane in the air haha
