The half pipe had nothing to do with it. It was the greatest day of his life because he had been trying the truck for 10 years, didn't even plan to try it that day, and the crowd pushed him to create one of the greatest moments in skating history. He has even said, stop the mega ramp hate. Mega is terrifying. Just because it gives you more does doesn't mean it's cheating. There's so much less room for error

Burnquists Fakie 900 on mega was pretty close. If only for the fact you have to land Fakie after spinning round that fast.

What's really insane is that given how clean he landed this, he probably has the capability of adding another 180 degrees for a 1440.
I'll believe it when I see it, but agree that it was extremely clean.

a 1440 would be significantly harder in that he'd have to start fakie to not land switch, the same way we've seen people do 1080s

Some 11 year old kid recently did a 1080 on a vert ramp.
I remember when Mitchie first started competing he was so little, now look at him pulling a 1260. Only up from here!
Compare this to the reactions and energy you see when Tony lands the 900.

Thats nothing. I did I Christ Air 720 backflip landed to a 50-50 grind over the coping and laser flip out... on skate 3 in easy mode

@@starosta975 I'm chilled dude, first of all I was being sarcastic and secondly I appreciate that he is a professional in a very focused state of mind but still I was very surprised that he didn't celebrate in a way or another. A smile would have been enough.
@Fab Elger but again you are right, probably he landed it many times before whilst training and there and then it wasn't so much a big deal because he knows he can do more and land bigger since he is so far ahead of the curve - although, still, I believe that confidence is a great gift, but humbleness is a bigger one, if it makes sense?
But perhaps I am just very wrong. I watched the video again after a while and maybe I get it. He seems just very grateful and almost as if he doesn't deserve it - is that why he wasn't too cocky and celebrated too much?
In fact if you watch the interview they made to him after the competition, he said he was overwhelmed. You can see it when his mates hug him.

same here! lol when I was younger, it was a big deal when someone landed a 900. these big ramps have changed the game.
I'm past 30. Been a blader. Raised by Boarders (some AMAZING LEGENDS actually...) And knew/know... There are no limits.
Don't limit yourself. Skating in the Olympics to me is a MORE OUT OF THE WORLD Thought.

Congratulations Mitchie. Still remember skating with Mitchie as a kid at Skate Barn (RIP) in Renton, WA. Knew he would make it big someday with the amount of talent he had from a young age.

Amazing! He made it look effortless too. I think that's what makes birdmans 900 so amazing. The amount of attempts, and the tension.
Half pipe
Incredible! 20 years ago we all went crazy for the 900 in 1999. Now a 1260 in 2019. Now the question is, what will the next 20 years bring? So stoked for Mitchie and landing it like a boss!
We'll be having an infinite spinning dude in 100 years where people will milk electricity out of him.

Man, the X Games have given us the best tricks of all time.
You have to be a *GENIUS* skateboarder to pull this off and it would take a full book to explain it, but look at how his feet are in the usual street position about 3ft or 2ft from the coping, then he suddenly twists only the upper half of his body 180° so as the board is about to leave the ramp, his feet are in the usual skating position but his whole upper body, head and shoulders, are facing backwards, in a split second, the board leaves and the twisting of the upper body carries on into the trick and into the air. Finally, him landing this is a miracle and the whole thing is just poetry in motion.
The guys got a great UA-cam channel as well. His instructionals are some of the best on UA-cam for vert and bowl skating. Rare to find someone who skates at his level who can communicate well
Where do I even begin. The crowd. The announcers. This reaction was so underwhelming. This was history, something we may never see again. Compare this to Tony landing the 900 and how people reacted.

he did a stunt on a purpose built built mega ramp... meh. tony landed the first ever 900 at the games after 10 years on a relatable half pipe. being a pioneer and visionary and doing a prepared stunt isn't the same. give a board to a stunt man for a few months and he can do that. it's like breaking the 4 minute mile, it was a big deal, breaking the 4 minute mile by a few more seconds in special shoes 30 years later isn't impressive.

Yeah no knock on skateboarding but if you think most popular sports have reached their top level then you must not watch many other sports. Athletes are getting bigger, taller, faster, and just more talented every single year.
Want to look at a sport that has progressed a ton since look no further than MMA.
I remember watching this when it was broadcast. I'm not into xgames or anything like that, just had the tv on for background noise. Didn't know I witnessed history. Saw a video of it so decided to find this video and look at it again.
Considering how clean he made that look, I wouldn't be surprised if a 1440 is possible at some point in our history. Also the shaky first landing might have slowed him down just slightly, might not have mattered but just the fact that he did that so cleanly makes me wonder lol

This trick is easier than a 900 in a half pipe. Not that its easy, but you really just have to spin and pray. You dont need to work to get momentum.

It still is a huge deal. Doing a spin like that on a half pipe is a lot more difficult than this was. While this is still impressive, it's not as impressive as Tony's 900.

Not like I told u so,but I have been waiting for that thanks for pulling it...nicely....when I was 11,I was lucky enough to hang with a 42year pro vert skater for about 3 months solid,I went from a good fast rolling skater to pulling front side,backside airs 4ft,to front to back Ollie oop,and I never got a chance to start spinning it amazing where we are now....I still want Hosoi,hah hah hah...

Added too many weird events that took away from the core 3 they started with. Going into stadium's feels more boring and like an organized sport.
X-Games died when they started dropping sports for more ad revenue. They literally dropped rollerblading because it was drawing bigger crowds than skateboarding.
