Thanks for specifying the difference between the cavalier and the Sunfire . And the need of a beer afterwards 😃👍

Another good thing to note on top of that. To extend life of fuel pump and other parts of your car avoid letting your car drop pass quarter tank. Helps with cooling and keeping crap from bottum of the tank being sucked in plugging fuel filer, wearing on pump, injectors and others.

Editing looks good Thank you Richard.
Just a quick note your fuel pump usually will die when you fill the tank with fuel because the pump is hot and your pouring cold fuel on top of it.so be prepared to siphon the fuel from your tank before you start work.

If you support the car directly under the centre line of the wheel it will give more clearance to drop the tank. This shoves the cross bar by the tank up and gives you more room . The rest of the vidio was very helpful

I know this is an old video but it came up in my search. I want to wire an aftermarket fuel level gauge in the cluster but I also need to replace a lot of things on the car as well. I found using 2x4 blocks and "cribbing"(?) them to help support the car makes an easier time of supporting the car for longer term work. Would you ever consider cutting a hole in the floorpan to access the pump? My 2000 Elantra has one and it made replacement Sooooo much easier.

Good information but I would have liked to see more detail like watching the canister and tank being removed and replaced. Wiring the fuel pump. Did it have to be spliced ? Man it looks like a pain in the ass though Thanks

What is the Canister Evap thing for anyway? Is it really needed? Also is it necessary for it to be removed to get the tank out? Thanks

Makes one yearn for the pre-80's days when most fuel pumps were mechanical cam shaft driven units that were usually attached by only two bolts and easily accessible. The fuel filters were also readily accessible and easy to change. Modern engineers will tell you electric pumps are more reliable but I don't know about that, I don't recall having to change a mechanical one very often and when you did they were inexpensive and could be changed in minutes. Every time I have to change a modern electric one about half way through the job I invariably say to myself " I'd like to get my hands on the idiot engineer who thought sticking the pump inside the fuel tank was a good idea

Where did you put the jack to jack the rear up? I have a 96 sunfire and the rear crossmember seems way too thin to support the vehicle.

I have this car as well. It turns over but wont start. Should I try the filter first or do its the pump? When I got it the wires where off. It starter after that and all winter we kept starting it. Then one day it wouldn't start.
