    Thank you for sharing your experience with us. The hitting the gas tank to jar the fuel pump is definitely a good tip. 🙂

    God bless you brother. Was stuck on the freeway, called my buddy and figured out it was the fuel pump and started watching your video. Heard the part about beating on the tank and got it started.
    Thanks so much.

    Good information. Thanks for finally showing people how futile it is to cut holes in their floor to try to get these pumps out. I get so tired of seeing these things getting towed in with bad fuel pumps and you go to work on it and drop the tank and you find there's already a hole under their seat. Generally it's not even sealed backup and it's leaking fumes right into the car. Folks don't ever cut a hole in less you're prepared to make a proper lid and you actually know what you're doing

      Yeah I dont like it either plus on this car its easy to drop the tank, I have several grand ams now I can do it with my eyes closed lol now my F-body is going to be an SOB but still I wouldn't cut a hole. The F-body is another car people like cutting holes for the pump.

      @@corycurry4135 I actually dropped the tank since that post and didn't have to drop the rear end to do it, you actually have enough room if you let the exhaust hang all the way down or better yet remove the muffler mine is held up with clamps. Raise it up unhook the exhaust let it hang remove cover to filler and reach in to remove the nut holding the filler tube in place then get under remove heat shield put a jack under tank unbolt the two straps and bring it down. From there you have enough room to disconnect the pump wires and hoses and replace it.

    Hey Mikey--just a quick note to let you know that beating on the tank is good info--but the reason it works is generally that the carbon brushes have hit their limit stop from wear and you are "jarring" a couple extra minutes of running because you caused the brush to reposition and contact the armature again. Keep up the good work.

    You can tell easy if your fuel pump is broken not working without even starting the car just turn the key to run you should hear the pump prime up if you don’t hear anything then it’s broken

    Mikey, you said you had to cut the two outer factory fuel lines from the upper part of the assembly to remove the pump assembly, right? How exactly are those two lines connected to the assembly up top? The middle one I realize disconnects via a clip, but how are the outer ones connected? You can't remove them and reuse them like the middle one?

    The hitting the tank does work my 05 Grand am died out after stopping at a gate ,it would not start back up ended up pushing it through the gate was dark cold and wet after a jump the battery was old- 4 half years old about done ,left it came back in the morning swapped out the battery for a new one still would not fire up turned over ,left the key on hit the tank with a rubber mallet tried again fired right up drove 6 miles home ,even went through the drive through at Mcdonalds ,next day went to Sil house about 17 miles each way including a tunnel worked fine the next day was going to Kroger started up put in reverse died out at the end of the driveway ,hit the tank again started up ,died out again hit the tank again started went to store ,drove to work decided once the cold weather is gone will put a new fuel pump ,hitting the tank could stop you from being stranded ! .

    I think every vehicle should have an easy access panel for fuel pumps but I would at least remove the tank before cutting and at least never have to pull the tank again.

      Exactly,the Grand Prix does that through the trunk,I hate car engineers they get all the glory but they're a bunch of idiots in the most part when it comes to being realistic, they only designed s*** so you have to take it to the dealer and get burned all over again, f****** hang them all

    Drop the tank, it's not that big, any gas in there , can be transferred to a bucket. Put tank on a jack, and raise it back in place, attach lines and hoses, plugs, you are finished.

      @@chadscreationz6464 May have to siphon the gas out, or just get someone to help you let it down with a big floor jack. They you can drain the tank, putting your gas into containers, then go back up with the empty tank, which will be very easy to do then.

    Replacing the pump doesn't require replacing the lines... why worry about making the hole bigger or dropping the tank if all you need is to change the bad pump...

    • @britishwillywanker
      @britishwillywanker Рік тому

      On the new pump the lines are heat molded to the pump it seems dumb to cut them off ,the clip that holds the hoses & wires is close to the floor of the car ,best to drop the tank .

    • @jimbiller9682
      @jimbiller9682 4 роки тому

      I am no pro, BUT if you have not already, you might try some carefull trouble shooting before replacing components: see if fuel is getting to the rail by means of finding the Schrader valve (like a tire valve stem) and poking it while someone turns ignition on, then pull filter and see if fuel squirts out when ignition on, then maybe drop tank and pull pump.
