    Thanks a lot man! I just parked my 2005 Cavalier and smelled gas. When I popped the hood, I could see where gas had been leaking through the vacuum hose.

    What is the line that you said would leak gas and cause a fire called min is broken where it goes in the part and leaking gas and backfiring.can that little line be replaced?

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  8 місяців тому

      line can be replaced may have to use a rubber line of the same size. But yes the rubber diaphragm can crack and allow gas to enter the intake tube causing fire and backfire

    I changed the fuel pump, sparks, the starter, check the fuses, under hood, beside wheel, even the (BCM) cuz one day it just wouldnt start. The dash went out as it wouldnt start I keep rechargin battery n sunfire keeps draining in 15mins until the car just dies period. dash still no full activity. No gas pumps into that vaccum pump at all. But i did have 02 sensor, bank1 and knock sensor readings before i got this point. Right now im left with those sensors and possible the alternator. I been driving this car with no issues then i went inside one day came out it wouldnt start out the clear blue. I have the 04 sunfire i changed all those parts bcuz i remember smellin melted plastic some gas and a slight bbq smell. I thought it was the sensors going bad not regulating the systems. I ended up puttin after market speakers in it now its having electrical problems. All the mechanics are stomped im just exhausted. I feel like I gotta fix the cam shaft if it has one i really dont know where to locate this stuff cuz at this point the energy of the car isnt making a connection to the engine the battery is not going through to the fuel pump relay system but it will operate the blower, the radio, power windows and headlights. You seem knowlegeable on this car did someone do vodoo to my car or is this a easy target to identify and fix?

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  3 роки тому

      Sounds like you need to check the alternator first. If it went bad it could cause sevral of those issues. As for changing speakers if you just pluged them in or only messed with the wires at the connection i Don't see that being an issue. The alternator could make funny sounds and odd smeels if it gets really hot and goes out. If you can charge the battery and it runs until the battery is dead your alternator is not working for a few reasons. Have it checked first and start from there. As far as the cam it does have one but i wouldnt mess with it. Weak battery and no/bad alternator can cause alot of issues since the computer and sensors are not getting enough power.

    can you make a video with the engine running with a focus on the coolant reservoir at 195 degrees? maybe thirty seconds to a minute? would like to know if liquid is shooting out from the two hoses into the reservoir.

    I have a serious fuel leak on my 04 cavalier. There's no fuel in the air duct, but the FPS, a little bit of the valve cover, and the fuel injector underneath gets soaked quick.

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  6 років тому

      best i can do without personally looking, is offer a few things to look for. IF you havnt already try starting the car, go out under the hood and while car is in park slowly start opening the throttle by hand no more then half way. Fuel pressure should start to build and maybe you can see where its coming from. it could be the fuel rail is lose, the seals are bad for injectors (havnt replaced the injectors on this yet so im not 100% sure what kind of seals they use). last thing i can think of is a crack in the rail, which you should be able to see do to a possible clean wet spot on the rail. But thats all i can do from here, i hope that helps

      Update. I went ahead and let it sit for a couple days because the weather has been cold here. (That day it was like 5 degrees Fahrenheit). Today it was above freezing so I figured I'd check it out again. I tore off a small piece of a shop towel and wrapped it around the injector. My theory was that if it's from the injector, that will soak before anything else. If it was outside injector, it would be mostly dry with some specks of gas on the out side of it from runoff from another source.
      Well guess what? Everything stayed bone dry with the exception of the "ring" on the FPS. But even then it was barely wet. I think it may have been condensation mixed with old gas that dried on. Anyway, I drove the car a bit to get it to op temp, and even went around 60mph here and there. Went to check...dry. Cars man lol. Maybe a seal fails when it gets cold, or there's a tiny leak in the FPS "disk" that lets frigid air in below freezing and it causes some funky stuff to happen. I'll probably end up taking the fuel rail off regardless.

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  6 років тому

      yes seals will expand and shrink do to temperature and the older they are the worse they can get. sometimes wd-40 has been known to allow old rubber seals to re expand a bit and seal better for a little bit longer. a new seal may have not done that, its really no surprise a older seal would.

    • @CaptainDerp
      @CaptainDerp 6 років тому

      Let it get frigid again then tested it. Gas almost immediately started bubbling out of fuel pressure regular "disk", possibly the seal, but not through the spout/vent hole. Everything else appeared to stay dry until it started dripping down. I'm going to replace the FPS. Do you know if the third party replacements work as well(hopefully better) than the oem one?

    Could a fuel pressure regulator leak cause an 05 Sunfire to not start? Mine had a leak for about a month and during a cold day in Wisconsin, the car cranks, but will not turn over. I replaced the battery but it’s still not turning over. Any advice? Fuel pump? Starter?

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  6 років тому

      . now im not sure what you mean by it cranks but will not turn over unless you just mean it wont start, if the starter engages it will turn the motor over unless you hear a thud which isnt good. Now you said it was leaking which would be a sign of a bad regulator, since the car will only start at the correct fuel psi for the injectors its very possible that the regulator is the problem since its already leaking. i would try there first, this sunfire had issues starting with the bad regulator. with a bad regulator it maybe hard to check the pump but you can borrow a tester at oreilys or another store and check to see if the pump is at the correct psi before going through that trouble

      Efurd Garage update... I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and still having trouble with it starting! I noticed on the dash there are 3 lights on. The check engine light, the battery light, and the oil indicator light. Any advice what to check next?

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  6 років тому

      Jonathan Perez rent/borrow a fuel pressure tester, make sure you have 50-60psi with key on. Then if it's ok I would check ignition may need plugs or coil. And since it's free I would have the battery and alternator tested. As for the oil could need changed, but check it just to be safe, unfortunately they don't have a fuel pressure gauge

      Efurd Garage so glad you actually responded, I could use some help with my 03 Sunfire, I'm having to buy a new fuel pressure regulator but I can't find that little plastic hose online, when I buy a fpr will it come with a "hose". Mine has a tear on one side and is leaking

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  6 років тому

      tripleBOOMER well mine did not come with one. I also seem to have an issue finding one on line. There should be one out there somewhere. If not you may try a junk yard and condition the plastic so it will last. You may get away with running a rubber hose. Or you may use a rubber line and run it like a sleeve over the plastic. Just some ideas that came to mind

    0:46 where can I get that screw or what's the size ?

    • @EfurdGarage
      @EfurdGarage  5 років тому

      honestly i do not know where you can get one other then a salvage yard, as for the size i do not know. if you are missing it i would say either run to a salvage yard or go to a hardware store and i want to say its 1/4-1/2 long maybe around 1/4-3/8 thread, im not for sure since it has been awhile and i no longer have access to that car. But if you have the screw and its messed up you should be able to take it to a bolt place like shamrock bolt and screw or something like it and they can match it.
