I just ordered the garmin, thanks for the great video. I’m also very happy to see a fellow Christian making videos on topics that interest me. I’m glad I found your page!
I will always have respect for my magneto. Its been great but I am looking forward to eventually getting a garmin and not having to worry about strapping anything to the barrel / suppressor.
I was thinking the same thing, I have nothing but great experience with my Magneto, I am not a fan of it being strapped on the muzzle and coming loose every 3-4 shots.
Other problem with the magneto: it changes your barrel harmonics. So if you shoot bench rest or x long range the precision has to be tested separate from velocity. Twice as much ammo.
I just found your page for the Garmin testing - and then you went into scripture. Lord how awesome! Bible study for my wife and I every Wednesday night and Saturday since 2006. I’ve subscribed and look forward to more content from you. Have a blessed Memorial Day!
Just finally gave up trying to stick with my LabRadar. I’ve had it for years and have used it with decent results but it’s so picky and finicky that even though I’m experienced with it I STILL can’t get a full series of 10 shots in without losing connection/missing shots as of recently. It’s so stressful having a family and needing to optimize range time I finally pulled the trigger on the garmin. Thanks for your review brother. And thank you for speaking openly of your faith! Thank God for the precious blood of Jesus!!
WELL DONE, EXCELLENT VIDEO. Straight and to the point, no long stories, just factual data. THANK YOU. I have a magnetospeed, but will be buying the GARMIN, based on this review.
Your videos are obviously the product of a lot of work and thought and are very much appreciated. My Garmin should be arriving today. If it works as well for me, I’d say for the person who doesn’t have the money to save up until you do. It is more expensive to purchase an optical chronograph, find it to be clumsy and unreliable, and then get a Garmin.
I remember watching your video a few weeks ago and really liking it. A few minutes ago, it hit me that I didn't give you a thumbs up and if there's ever a review that deserved it, it's yours. Thank you so much for the comprehensive review and excellent comparison!
Thank you! I bought a Garmin last week for a Bday present for myself, and brought it up to our Kids house Sunday w/a .177 pellet(8gr.), a rolled up pc of foil(1gr.) and a plastic straw. While the Garmin did not give a velocity, it detected every "shot". Good enough for me. It's a lot smaller than my old unit, which still works, but a pain to set up. Will be testing it at a range next week w/a couple long (8" & 9.5")bbl .44 mags. Be safe!
Excellent job. Thanks for testing these head to head. I am looking to upgrade from my Chrony and was leaning towards lab radar, but not now. Stay safe, and God bless
That Garmin is impressive and it's not really that much more expensive than the Magneto Speed. I've never been interested in the Magneto Speed because I don't want anything attached to my barrel as I'm doing load work-up. That Garmin seems to be worth the added expense. Great comparison video. God Bless and Happy New Year.
I have seen and I've put a couple of bullets through many of "V" chronos. My Magneto Speed is always reliable but impacts my grouping. I thought LabRadar was the solution yet I lost so much data with "no tracks". I was skeptic concerning the Garmin. This review was awesome comparing all three simultaneously! Thank you for taking the time for this great review!
Thanks for this review. I got my Garmin for Christmas and had it out a couple times. It just works flawlessly. Also, thanks for sharing your faith. I’m a believer as well and it’s much appreciated to hear this versus the other trash talking you hear online. I pray God continue to bless you brother.
Seems like perfect scripture for the times. I wished I had known about the Garmin before I bought the FX. I would have saved me some loot. I am pretty happy with the Fx, though. It is pretty easy to use, and I have always got it to read as long as I did everything I was supposed to like to turn it on. Lol! Thank you for taking the time to show us the differences in chronographs. God bless
I feel your pain brother. I bought the Bulletseeker mach4+ like a day before the Garmin came out. It has been very solid but I do more pistol stuff. When shooting a rifle its great to just qd it to a rifle and go. But for me the Garmin would have worked better and cost half.
Sir just saw your video and made it all the way to the end. On Jan 3 I had a heart attack and your message gave me hope and new in-site. Thanks oh by the way the video was great.
Thank you for such a comprehensive review of the major players in the chronograph world, I was looking heavily into the Labradar and after your review, I purchased the Garmin. Pricey but buy once cry once, I love my new Garmin.
I just came across your channel . Do research on what chronograph to get garmin or Labrador and you helped me make up my mind and at the end of your video you spoke of our lord and savior Jesus Christ. Thank you thank you!!!
Labradars and Magnetospeeds were unobtanium due to being perpetually out of stock up here in Soviet Canuckistan for a long time, so I never bothered replacing my old Shooting Chrony until the Xero came out. Thank heavens!
I exclusively use my magnetospeed on 22lr. I very rarely have a problem. I use setting 9 and its mounted with a wiser precision mount for proper height and alignment with the muzzle.
I didn't touch the Garmin settings or positioning once, during this entire test. It read out every projectile fired, no matter what was fired. I find that noteworthy.
@primalrights Ya the Garmin is truly impressive from what I've seen so far in reviews. I am planning on running one off a diving board in competition (PRS). Right now, it doesn't seem like anything else is worthwhile in comparison if you're new in the market for a chronograph.
Thank you for thorough review. Love my Magnetospeed, FYI there is a sensitivity setting, bump it up two notches and all .22 can be measured, I've never had a problem, subsonic to super. I am saving for the Garmin because the Magnetospeed changes POI, so you have to test loads with the Magnetospeed, then remove and test again for accuracy.
I have a Labrador and what I have found when shooting.22lr is putting it in the pistol mode instead of rifle it works very well. I'm only shooting 22lr. I do like the size of the Garmin though.
One day i hope you can try out the Bullet seeker chrony someday. I love my bullet seeker so far. Its expensive but its so darn easy to use. I love your breakdowns of ite.s and see what your analysis is. GOD BLESS
I had this issue with the Magnetospeed when I first got it. The sensitivity needs to be increased in order to pick up the projectile. But the Garmin is an amazing unit with ease of use and set up and portability.
I am brand new to precision rifle. I started in 2019. I bought a Lab Radar in 2020. It was my first time ever using a chronograph. I was inexperienced and out shooting alone. I set it up. I had to bring an external battery because I didn't like the fact it used so many AA's. Not a big deal. To me that was the obvious decision. Then I found it very difficult to get shots with my 6.5 PRC 147g ELD's. I found myself out there with my nose in the manual. I found myself constantly moving the unit around. I want to say I spent about 45 minutes or an hour going through the manual and moving it around. Finally, I started getting some readings. But then, all of a sudden, randomly I would not get a reading. And sometimes, I would forget to arm it. Needless to say, I didn't like the experience. I was a complete newbie with no prior knowledge of any chronograph and I just didn't like this unit. So I sold it after using it twice. Then I bought the MagneetoSpeed about a year ago. Then, I learned how the Magneetospeed creates POI shifts. So just last week, I decided I was going to bite the bullet and buy another Lab Radar for Load Development. But then I discovered this Garmin Unit just before I was about to buy! This unit is a true blessing and this is a great time for a new shooter to be getting into this discipline. The Lab Radar made me feel like I was doing everything wrong and that I was not enough of a Pro to be doing this sport. It turns out now I see it wasn't just me! I ordered my Garmin last week and it should be here at the end of January. I like the Area 419 arm that attaches to the ARCA rail too.
Thank you for sharing a message at the end of the video, That was quite refreshing. Thank you for using your platform as well for that purpose to reach out and touch lives well beyond the time of the video.
Thanks for the video! I have a Prochrono DLX, but it doesn’t work indoors. The Garmin looks great, but so expensive. On the other hand, I would probably use it more than the Prochrono, because it should be easier to use. I’m mostly going to use it for hand gun rounds that I make, but it’s good to know it works so well with rifles. Super cool that you’re a fellow believer! I enjoyed the scripture reading. Hopefully many will come to know Christ through your channel!
I realy loved my Magetospeed 3V with the mk machining mount. I had to sell it at a huge discount once I seen the Garmins reviews. It's just too reliable and convenient. I have it with me anytime a rifle is in my presence. Thanks for testing the extremes. Love the content.
The Bible verse and devotional at the end was a great surprise! Also, I’m very happy that you did a side by side comparison of the three units…that’s exactly what I would have asked for. Thank you!
I have a 20 year old garmin fish finder and it got lines on the screen probly from sun damage called them and ask what would be best replacement because i loved it all along they said send it to them. I did and in 2 weeks it showed up in mail with new glass and an up date and asked me to donate 20 bucks to fish and game. WOW.
I appreciate the information on this video. I subscribed because of the scripture and the sharing of your faith. May God bless you in all your endeavors.
Hi new subscriber. Your presentation was EXCELLENT. I have owned an Oheler 35P for decades and love it. Yes, I shot the sides of the sun screens once, but the only thing I disliked was the set-up procedure. I have mine on a 4' beam for accuracy, but that requires 2 tripods for stability. When I got my Garmin, I packed the Oheler away. It is awesome. The only thing I 'wish' it had was a print-out like the 35P. I wonder if there might be an individual (or company) that could make a small, stand-alone printer that would use Bluetooth (etc) to work with the Garmin? I'm just an old retired Engineer that likes his toys. Thank you!
Not surprised about the lab radar performance, I bought one when they first came out and returned it 2 weeks later. It struggled mightily with 223, and was pretty much useless, even after several calls with their tech service.
I just bought the garmin and would like to see it integrated with Applied Ballistics software... I have the Tactix 7 solar, with the software on it and, having weather and radar to get accurate tracking is going to be outstanding...
Thank you so much for a very good review. I´ve used the Magnetospeed for years. I am just about to spend some money to make my shooting life simpler :-) May your belief be with you. I’m a bit different. Makes no difference for me. You look so kind and we - hopefully - all love life and other people. Kind regards Jesper - Denmark
I have a LabRadar Lite (short-term solution they sold w/o Bluetooth when BT chips were nowhere to be found outside of phones and computers). Its large and I almost bought a new one w/Bluetooth, but I decided against because it wasn't that necessary. Now, the LabRadar does have a setting that allows to be triggered by the projectile and it works for about 15% of shots. This comparatively tiny Garmin unit is worth every penny and demonstrates what happens when you allow your product to stagnate because you are the only player. Now LabRadar has a lot of catching up to do! I will definitely upgrade to the Garmin and sell my LabRadar.
We did some testing with two guns being fired at the same time in a real world shooting application. We could not get the Garmin passed with flying colors, the lab radar failed to read each time.
No, labradar’s previous treatment of me during an exceedingly poor customer service experience guaranteed I will not buy their products again, regardless of price or consideration.
Excellent video! I have old school chronograph requires fairly extensive setup with large bipod, wires, readout screen, etc etc. Always work except when another range member ask to check their velocity and skip a projectile off the top edge of chronograph braking it! Read a bit about Labradar and been on the fence after reading some online reviews! Very interested in Labradar new small chronograph as well as Garmin. Make sense the original large Labradar unit doesn’t pickup lead projectiles but didn’t think about it until you pointed it out! I’m not sure about their new small unit soon to be available has same issue? Nonetheless your video definitely helps me to decide between Garmin and new smaller Labradar, thanks!
Garmin seems to be a great unit. Small and lightweight is great. Price a bit high for now. I will wait to buy one as they will most definitely release a 2.0 model with new features etc based upon feedback. I’ve seen side by side tests before and Magneto reads faster speeds than LabRadar. In this test the Garmin and Magneto were very close. True your velocities at distance and you will know which chronograph is correct.
Have had a f1 chrony for 18 years thats reads arrows, bb's, pellets to large rifle. Dont know if it is as accurate as the others. Plug into mic jack. Cut and strip the other end, then touch the 2 wires together and get speeds, average, es and sd. Its been a good one but it may be time for a upgrade!
Nice comparison, but it would be nice to have this comparison on an indoor range with other shooters shooting next to you. For Magnetospeed it would make no difference but for the radars it would be interesting
Thank you for this thorough test and video. Thank you most of all for the scripture reading! I appreciate you using your platform to share some good news! Just gained a new subscriber!
Yesterday I got an error that I haven’t seen covered anywhere (not even in the manual): “POSSIBLE INTERFERENCE DETECTED. MOVE AWAY FROM LIKELY SOURCES: FANS, HVAC, FLUORESCENT LIGHTS, OTHER RADARS OBSTRUCTED VIEW.” I was by myself at an open range during day time, the only electric/electronic devices close by were my cellphone and my ear protection (I turned it off and didn’t see the message anymore, but this could be a coincidence). The range is next to a highway and many trucks have short range radios… (the type that makes speakers go nuts) I also got some low velocity “ghost shots” with the unit calibrated for subsonic pistol rounds even when there were no rounds going down range. With rifles, it worked flawlessly from .22lr to 44 magnum.
I've been blessed to have been able to use both the MagnetoSpeed and Lab Radar. Both have worked great but the biggest issues with both is the size. I'm always afraid I will send a bullet into the Magneto Speed
Thank you for the scripture just sold my OEHLER 33 to a friend of mine due to being a pain to hook up I just wonder how this device will work with revolvers, and being a competitive Trapshooter, with dealing with the length of shot string and wad
Great comparison and video! Hope nobody post this until I sell my LabRadar! You need to add in the new LabRadar. It look,s like a duplicate of the Garmin. But with all the frustration I went through to optimize the Lab Radar, no way! They even said it would use the same software? As if that was a positive comment…. lol
Yeah I’ll be adding a Garmin soon. I never liked the LabRadar. To many missed shots and a pain to tune for specific calibers. Not to mention it peters out at 3500 fps.
I was hoping for the 15.5gr NTX out of a 17 Remington. My Magnetospeed has no issues with it. And I have no issues with 22lr ammo, but I find I have to reset the sensitivity.
Hmmm. Looks like I’ll be selling my Magnetospeed and buying a Xero. I luv’d the ease and accuracy of the MS but didn’t like the fact that I couldn’t use it for my competition pistols. The Garmin appears to be a good solution.
Try testing with Three or four guys either side of you ,shooting at the same time . The labradar failed that test . Had to get recoil meter to switch it on at the right time. How would the Garmin handle that scenario?
Great to see this info from you. I waited when I heard about the Garmin, ended up getting 1 of the first batch from Area419 on the release day. To me, it's been perfect. I don't have a need for the down range speeds the Lab Radar can do, so for my use it's the way to go. I am noticing that the Lab seems to have consistently slower speeds shown. Is that something I need to consider when using my Garmin? Or better to just trust the info I get from my Garmin and use it for my Kestrel data? In my mind, as long as I'm using the same chrono I should have the same consistency in readings for my own uses. I am getting started on my own loads for my PRS rifle, so I am hoping that just trusting the Garmin will give me the comparative speeds I need to find my best powder charge for my rifle. If you get a chance, let me know what you think. I figure I am good to go and just get out and use it, but confirmation from you with your many years of experience and knowledge would be great. I hope your 2023 was great and you and your family have an awesome 2024!! Thanks for all you do and I have had a good time this last week showing off my CPS on my little videos as I'm starting this load work for my 6 Creedmoor. The comments are good, they like your tool!
Personally, I would trust the numbers the Garmin gives. If you notice in my video, the Garmin and the Magnetospeed agreed very closely with each other quite frequently, while the number the labradar gave was often quite a bit off from those two, in comparison. I have had very good luck trusting the numbers the Magnetospeed puts out, and so with the Garmin reading out very similar numbers... that leads me to believe the garmin is fairly adept at providing actual functional muzzle velocities for use in our ballistic solvers. Thanks for your promotion of the CPS on your channel. I'll have to go take a look at the videos. Perhaps give me a call at the shop during the week sometime for a conversation.
@primalrights Thanks for the confirmation! I was noticing Magneto and Garmin very close, likely not enough difference to miss a PRS target if I do my part right! Still working on that 🤣. 4 matches into my journey and working on my mistakes between each match! Lots to learn still of course. I am trying to document it all with a match review video and pointing out what I notice my biggest issues were, then working to correct them before the next match. Then find the next 2 or 3 glaring mistakes I make and work on those. I will get it all pulled together in the next months of practice!! It is fun! I should also tell you, for some reason the video I made about cleaning with rice kinda blew up for me! It was one of my earliest videos this year and I think I need to do an updated, more refined version, but people still find it and comment. I really appreciate that tip you guys gave me when I was very new to this. If I can, I will try to call in to you. Probably have to try next week, though. I work Tuesdays thru Saturdays, my weekend Sundays and Mondays. Maybe I can get a chance to call ya the 8th. I figure everyone will take this Monday the 1st to relax and recharge for the coming year. I do want to get more info on the Prime Where and figure out when I should be looking to add that tool to my bench for added precision. I mentioned it in my last video, where I tried to show the poor man's version by using a caliper to attempt to get pocket depth. Not nearly as accurate I'm sure!! I appreciate your response. It gives me more confidence in my decision to go with the Garmin!! I hope you and the family have a blessed weekend and 2024!!
It’ll pay for its self during load development vs the magneto. Glad to see it was so accurate. Kinda disappointed in the 6 prc primal speeds though with that long of a barrel? I’ve been meaning to talk to you about building one in 20-22 inch
Yeah well… I can get 50+ firings on my brass at that speed. So be like everyone else and run it at 3450 and throw your brass away after 5 firings if you want.
I really appreciate this information. I do have a question, How do you determine which chronograph is the most accurate? How do you know which one is displaying the correct velocity? Thank you again and I really enjoy your vids.
In a labratory setting, to verify a piece of equipment, you use the order of magnitude rule. So you find a different piece of equipment that is 10x the capability, and validate the lesser equipment in a controlled setting. Most people won't have that opportunity here, so instead we can take a trusted rifle/ammo combo that is completely worked out and a ballistic solver that has always produced consistent exact firing solutions for it... and plug in the velocity and see what results you get. By shooting enough rounds, you can apply some statistical analysis to see based on real world performance whether the velocities you are seeing are lining up. This is not something really easy for inexperienced folks to do, as the real world results could be affected by any number of variables, and the result could be easily clouded by incorrectly operating the ballistic solver. The way I've performed this test, is a good strategy. You get a bunch of chronographs, and run them all at the same time, then use the numbers from the ones that closely agree with each other. ;)
So, is it "accurate" (how do you like the way I put that in there) to say that since the Garmin appeared to be the data that the other two appeared to follow that the Garmin would be the most "accurate"
@@briandoody4954 I’d readily trust the number the garmin gives at this point. It was always right with the magnetospeed, which until now, was the gold standard.
Thank you so much for your video and input. I currently have a Caldwell chronograph but will have to save up for the Garmin. I reload my own ammo and have redesigned my approach and want to start monitoring velocities. Thank you again.
The microphone on the Labradar is on the left side, and your muzzle needs to be slightly behind the unit and to the left. You should try it with an airgun, microphone or inertia trigger needed, the Garmen is the better one on the market.
I just ordered the garmin, thanks for the great video. I’m also very happy to see a fellow Christian making videos on topics that interest me. I’m glad I found your page!
Wow. Comprehensive. Very impressed with the range of rifle calibers/cartridges you tested (a little envious also!🤣🤣). Thank you 😊
For me it comes down to size. The Garmin is small, compact, simple, and will do everything I need.
I will always have respect for my magneto. Its been great but I am looking forward to eventually getting a garmin and not having to worry about strapping anything to the barrel / suppressor.

Thank you!

Excellent job. Thanks for testing these head to head. I am looking to upgrade from my Chrony and was leaning towards lab radar, but not now. Stay safe, and God bless
Excellent video, thank you so much for this. About to purchase my first chronograph. So glad I found your video first.
Little Garmin did surprisingly well! Great job, I’ll cop that for sure!

Sir just saw your video and made it all the way to the end. On Jan 3 I had a heart attack and your message gave me hope and new in-site. Thanks oh by the way the video was great.
What a pleasant surprise when, after your excellent review, you gave a brief talk on Acts! I genuinely appreciate your hard work and the message!

Thankyou for your review mate. The Garmin here in Australia is around $1000 ..... But from what you've shown, I'll be finding one very soon.
Great comparison. Will be looking for a garmin unit. Thanks for your witness!
In stock at Grafs.com right now.

I so appreciate the scripture. And your willingness to share the Word. Sharing the Lord is literally the only thing that matters in these days.
I had this issue with the Magnetospeed when I first got it. The sensitivity needs to be increased in order to pick up the projectile. But the Garmin is an amazing unit with ease of use and set up and portability.
Great Review, I know what I am upgrading too! Thank you so much
First video of yours I’ve seen, absolutely love the Bible verse at the end. God Bless!
The only thing I wish the Garmin did was down range velocity like the LabRadar.
Not for firearms, but it would be really handy for archery.
Thanks for sharing the Word! Cool!

I ordered my Garmin last week and it should be here at the end of January. I like the Area 419 arm that attaches to the ARCA rail too.
Great video, thanks for the very comprehensive and unbiased review.
I have the magnetospeed and the Garmin, I just adjust the sensitivity on the MS and never had any issue getting velocity.
The Bible verse and devotional at the end was a great surprise!
Also, I’m very happy that you did a side by side comparison of the three units…that’s exactly what I would have asked for. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
got me a garmin today...soooo awesome.
Excellent work much appreciated
The best thing about the Garmin is the fire sales you can find on the others. I picked up a MagnetoSpeed v3 on a new Wiser Mount for $275.
Thank you for what you have done, what you do and the teachings you provide. God bless.
You’re welcome!
Happy New Year Greg!!
Thank you. Happy New Year!
good lord you love those high speed bullets! how often do the barrels need replaced? 3000 rounds?
I just bought the garmin and would like to see it integrated with Applied Ballistics software... I have the Tactix 7 solar, with the software on it and, having weather and radar to get accurate tracking is going to be outstanding...
Wow those are some fast bullets. What kind of barrel life do you get pushing 5000 fps?
There is a .22 rim Setting for the Magneto speed I have used it even with lead pellets and it works perfectly.
Thank you so much for a very good review. I´ve used the Magnetospeed for years. I am just about to spend some money to make my shooting life simpler :-)
May your belief be with you. I’m a bit different. Makes no difference for me. You look so kind and we - hopefully - all love life and other people.
Kind regards
Jesper - Denmark
Holy cow! At 5000fps I’m surprised the bullet stays together!
Very extensive experimentation. Thank you ! Would it be possible for you to compare the new Labradar to the Garmin ?
No, labradar’s previous treatment of me during an exceedingly poor customer service experience guaranteed I will not buy their products again, regardless of price or consideration.
@@primalrights Too bad. Thank you for your prompt reply.
Thank you for sharing the Word that was exactly what i needed to hear. Oh and good job on the chrono test.
Brother, I tuned in for the Garmin Knowledge Drop and left the video with a renewal of Gods Word. Thank you for that, it is much needed!
Finally got my hands on one, glad I got it
Thank you for the great comparison review.
AMAZING scripture I wholeheartedly appreciate this.
ANYbody want too buy a Labradar lol!
Yesterday I got an error that I haven’t seen covered anywhere (not even in the manual):
“POSSIBLE INTERFERENCE DETECTED. MOVE AWAY FROM LIKELY SOURCES: FANS, HVAC, FLUORESCENT LIGHTS, OTHER RADARS OBSTRUCTED VIEW.”
I was by myself at an open range during day time, the only electric/electronic devices close by were my cellphone and my ear protection (I turned it off and didn’t see the message anymore, but this could be a coincidence). The range is next to a highway and many trucks have short range radios… (the type that makes speakers go nuts)
I also got some low velocity “ghost shots” with the unit calibrated for subsonic pistol rounds even when there were no rounds going down range. With rifles, it worked flawlessly from .22lr to 44 magnum.
Thank you for an awesome review!
Awesome channel just found. Great, giving God the glory.
Great comparison and video! Hope nobody post this until I sell my LabRadar! You need to add in the new LabRadar. It look,s like a duplicate of the Garmin. But with all the frustration I went through to optimize the Lab Radar, no way! They even said it would use the same software? As if that was a positive comment…. lol
I will not be buying the new lab radar.
Fantastic video. The scripture read topped it off. Happy New Year and God bless.
How does the Garmin work when shooting at a busy public range ? Is it going to pick up others bullet speed or just mine ?
Looking forward to Xero C1 Pro vs. Velociradar
For me the form factor is important. The Garmin seemed like the pick for me.
I would
Like to know if this would work for 12 gauge lead shot ?
It’ll pay for its self during load development vs the magneto. Glad to see it was so accurate. Kinda disappointed in the 6 prc primal speeds though with that long of a barrel? I’ve been meaning to talk to you about building one in 20-22 inch
Yeah well… I can get 50+ firings on my brass at that speed. So be like everyone else and run it at 3450 and throw your brass away after 5 firings if you want.
What about VelociRadar? Any good?
