I have a Xero and absolutely love it!! Particularly compared to the "other" Doppler radar chrono that I gave to my cousin when I got the Garmin. However, there have been a number of suggestions/feature requests submitted by owners (read long thread on Sniper's Hide) and I would hope Garmin takes these seriously. Things like being able to add shots to a session that's closed out, not going into firmware update mode when connected to the app unless specifically selected by the user, being able to "Delete All" sessions and not have to do this individually, etc. All of these should be easily programmable in this great unit. The only other think I want to say is about the comments wrt to Hornady's great QA. Frankly, having shot their loaded ammo for a long time, I personally have found the consistency of their factory ammo to have gone down significantly. Shows up in ES and SD...when using a chrono! Shame, really. Cheers
Pure unadulterated "blow you mind" American ingenuity in full display! Good to see it is still alive and well. and these young people coming through for us. Superb podcast Seth - Thanks to you all.... And of course, I got a C1direct from Garmin two weeks after the announcement.
Great podcast/video. Just started using a Xero C1 last week. You are right, the usability is superb. And the price point is reasonable. I just wish they had an Apple Mac application to connect to rather than just the phone. And hopefully next iteration has interval reading for selectable distances. The Xero is a huge winner product. Glad to see Hornady championing it.
I had been waiting for a Labradar with Bluetooth to come back in stock when Gamin launched the Xero C1. I picked up the Garmin unit on the first retail run and couldn’t be happier with it. I had confidence in Garmin products having used their aviation gps units since 2002, I know they put in the time and effort to launch a product better than anything else on the market. Im so happy the labradar I wanted was out of stock, I hadn’t even heard rumors about the xero until a week before it was launched. Garmin nailed it and raised the bar for everyone else.
I literally just gave my magneto speed to the guy who replaced my blinds two days ago because I bought one of these a month ago and he was talking about buying one and didn’t have the money for it. He gave a screaming good deal on the blinds so I figured I didn’t need two chronographs and selling it is a pain…
I’ve been running a magneto speed for a long time and I’ve been looking at one of these as an upgrade. The magneto is a good product, but I’m always having to fiddle with it as it works its way loose, and it does affect the accuracy of some of my rifles so I can’t always track velocity while testing for group size.
Just picked one up to replace my pro chrono, had the chance to use the xero c1 before purchase as my brother works in a hunting store, wow- this product is the best thing out right now for measuring velocity and its stupid easy to use. Well done Garmin
One of the best things about the Garmin is the ease of setup adjacent to the firing position. Elimination of the need to align sky screens to the bullet flight path is a huge safety and convenience benefit.
Its such a nice unit to have at the range when bringing more than one rifle ore if anyone want to borrow it you dont have to worry about it getting blasted like the magnetospeed. Picked up mine at the post office and went straight to the range and it worked without any problems. Setup was very easy
Having had Magnetospeed and Labradar, the Garmin is soooo much easier to use! So far, no dropped shots. Just place 8 inches next to barrel and six inched back, and it works every time. Other site’s side by side comparisons have validated the accuracy. Winner!
I did. Sold it the next month and bought labrader LX. Just not impressed with garmins software, used to get their GPS, the old ones were good, the new one is parked at home, same as their watch.
@onebadjack1313 I've had the big labradar for 5-6 years and have gotten quite used to their software and interface. I've had garmin gps's since the early 93 and have really liked them till around 2015 or thereabouts and their smart watch, and I can't stand the software anymore. Its bery poor. Garmin, from what I've seen of mine when I had it, it is as minimalist as you can get in every way. All 3 do the job very well, but if you handle the garmin, think about handling the cheapest plastic product that's made in China, and then handle the labradar lx made 100 percent In north America. That whole presentation was so disingenuous from the start, saying that what they had was groundbreaking, and it seemed to carry through the whole presentation. They lost me and now I'm being tonwonder about Hornady products too.
Great show, as always!! If you get a chance to talk to those guys at Garmin again sometime, drop a bug in their ear, the ability to plug in a usb card reader and dump all the data as csv files onto an sdcard (or whatever media you had plugged in) would be absolutely amazing!! IMHO
I wanted the Garmin, but it's still new and the price is a little prohibitive. I just picked up my first ever "chrono" /velocity measuring device and it's the 1st Gen Lab Radar; quite simply because it was on sale at a $250 discount. Obviously they're going to phase out the Gen 1 because they have a small unit like the Garmin now also. I'm sure I'll end up with a Garmin one day when they're less expensive. Thanks again for another great topic on the podcast ‼️🤙😎
Why do you think those guys were at Hornady? Could it be--the next iteration of the Zero will have 4Dof on it? The Garmin watch is avail with 4Dof I believe, and Applied Ballistics is avail on it as well. Seems a very natural progression. I'm also thinkng that they may be able to come up with longer range reading abilities too, probably more than Labradar had. Their focus now, will be how many features can we pack into this unit, and the "what can we do in the cost vs price point categories with it". They've hit on a home run market, and have the people and tech ability, that can exploit it to the max, in house.
Have a Labradar and my friend got the Garmin. What a leap forward, so tiny and does not miss a shot. Absolutely no setup. Incredible! But question how does it trigger?
Great show. Been on the fence about the Garmin chronograph. Great to hear that they got Hornady stamp of approval. I think I am going to pick one up. Do they work with 4DOF? That would be awesome real time muzzle velocity corrections.
I hope you’re reading this. I hope you have a line to communicate this comment to the Garmin team. My biggest disappointment with ALL chronographs and their apps is that you can only shoot/record one firearm at a time. Ideally, you should be able to shoot as many firearms as you want and PAUSE the session, shoot another string PAUSE it, etc…… and then come back to it and CONTINUE the string!!!!! As it is, you have to save each string and then manually input all of the data into a ballistic calculator. Since you have to manually input the data WHY BOTHER BUYING A GARMIN???? I plan on sticking with my F1 Chrony. I have to manually input the data from it too. The difference is, it only cost me $100. If Garmin (and the rest) would make it so you could PAUSE your string then come back and CONTINUE the same string later, I would buy it in a heartbeat. PS. Love the channel!!!😊
The Oehler Model 33 was and is still able to record velocity in excess of 4,000 fps since the 1980's. I rely on it for my .220 Swift loads at 4,274 fps. I still have the Oehler but have switched over to the Labradar. Is there a round with a muzzle velocity anywhere near 5,000 fps? I am not aware of any.
Please add Average Power Factor as an option for the main display on the Garmin. It's frustrating to not have that displayed along with other averages when done a string.
I sold my LabRadar last year because it was a pain to use. Finally got the chronograph itch when Garmin brought their out. Bought me one. Now I need to find time to set it up and start using it.
Setting it up is as simple as turning it on, selecting a velocity range, entering a bullet weight (optional, used for kinetic energy calculations), then pointing it somewhat at the target.
Could you guys address the difference between the calculations in determining velocity, ES, and SD for Labradar and your chronograph? I think that is the biggest difference.
For SD there are 2 formulas. Sample and Population. Sample is for less than 30 shots and population is for greater than 30. The difference isn’t huge but typically if the population equation is used when the shots are less than 30 the SD will be lower than what it should be if the correct equation was used. Garmin uses the population equation for all their SD calculations (so I’m told) so the SD you will get on the garmin vs labradar may be different
Now make a two channel strain gauge reading device for reading chamber pressure and barrel time. It needs to work stand alone like the C1 (no app to operate, but with downloading after).
I got one yesterday ( in Europe) . Great piece of kit. The only gripe I have is the shot view app which automatically translates all of the terminology wrong in my language ( Dutch) . It’s like i am at the aliexpress website . Also , maybe I missed it but I can’t see any Ipsc idpa power factor calculations , only footpounds
I’ve got a couple questions for the Garments n guys: 1) What max G’s is the G Zero rated to withstand? Can i attach it to Picatinny rail in my rifle w/o damaging the unit? 2) Professionally, i’ve seen the ionized gas ejected at shot exit interfere with Doppler return for the first few datapoints.. when does the G Zero pick up the bullet, and does it extrapolate back to the muzzle? 3) can data be exported for analysis in a spreadsheet? Thanks for a great interview!
Data can be exported for use in a spreadsheet. Using the Garmin shotview app on my iPhone i was able to email the data to my iMac while at the shooting range.
Use mine every time at the range, its great. I only wish i could open an individual rifle file and keep adding to that rifles data without have into start a new session everytime.
I have to wonder how many calls and emails Hornady receives every day from people who complain the velocities they're getting don't match what's shown on the box. If you haven't already created a video that explains why "customer results may vary", you should.
The problem Hornady has they don't produce there own powder. If they did they would eliminate the problem they have with the 7 prc or say that was caused by another company buy up the entire inventory of the powder they tested with. If they make there own powder they would be selling powder to the compition so they could actually keep up.
My Magnetospeed has never missed a shot, BUT hanging off the barrel did not allow me to use it during competition or while sight-in to collect velocities. The Zero on the other hand is a home run… HOWEVER…… mine misses 10% of the shots (22LR to 7PRC) when used at our 100 m indoor range! I have videos to support my experience. Other Zero owners do not have the same outcome in the same environment? Despite the shortfall I use it every time I shoot from 1042 to 4100 fps and try to note the missed shots. Just saying……
Don't know how "they" did it but I tried it next to a number of other chronographs at the range and differences were a couple of ft/s and sometimes less.

These guys are so humble yet created a game changing product that everyone wants. Great video.

Too bad Hornady didn't have a response to this as @baron2375 isn't alone with his experience using their ammo...

Good job Garmin guys. This thing is perfect. Should win every product and design award there is.
Without question the beat chrono I have used/owned. Makes my MagnaSpeed look like ancient tech.
DeWalt, Garmin, and Hornady for me all day long!

Easily it’s the “Shooting Product of the Year”.
No, shooting product of the decade
@@redneckchemtech7621that’s can be argued, but definitely not a hot take at all. Definitely in the top 5.
Great video. I have little interest in this, but after watching a few minutes, I was hooked.
I have been running my C1 for awhile and love the little gadget.
Love this show
Thank you!!
Going to have to pick one of these up eventually. This with the Hornady 4dof app .

An object moving down range in the velocity range you choose…simple

There’s literally no set up to it. Choose your settings for the shoot, slap it down on a table and go
Setting it up is as simple as turning it on, selecting a velocity range, entering a bullet weight (optional, used for kinetic energy calculations), then pointing it somewhat at the target.

A non replaceable battery is a big road block for me, every chronograph I've owned had that option.
I wondered about that. There's a lot of screws to turn to open it up....
Great Stuff 💯💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Thanks for listening
It’s so easy to use. It’s silly to spend your money on something else.
After I shot my Caldwell chronograph I bought one and never looked back
@@muffins4tots Exact same here. Once I was gonna have to spend money on one I figured I better get something that I can’t shoot.

I have to wonder how many calls and emails Hornady receives every day from people who complain the velocities they're getting don't match what's shown on the box. If you haven't already created a video that explains why "customer results may vary", you should.
Will the Garmin read a 17 Hornet-15.5 grain at over 3000fps. The bullet is too small and too fast for other chronos.
The problem Hornady has they don't produce there own powder. If they did they would eliminate the problem they have with the 7 prc or say that was caused by another company buy up the entire inventory of the powder they tested with. How does it do with a 50 bmg will it survive.
It’s amazing: it’s made the market flooded with cheap LabRadars!
how can you NOT have one sitting on the Table???????

It catches the salt from a fly zapper.
