The game is slow to catch interest at first, but it quickly draws you in and keeps you wanting to play more and more. This game has surprises around every corner.
The first JRPGs I ever played were FF7 and Dragoon. I was about 10. This was the one that hooked me harder. I've grown to love FF7 like almost everyone else, but Dragoon was amazing to me. The epic/high fantasy aspects and that timing system in the turn based combat made me fall in love. I need to dig my PS1 out of storage to play this again. Criminally underrated.
Whoa! Did we literally have the same experience at the same age! That's literally how it went down with me! Played them both simultaneously, but loved Dragoon so much more. I could never bear either of them at that time. First I beat LoD by myself during my freshman year and then not long after I beat FFVII. Then both got stolen by some crackhead. Thank God both of them are available on PS3 digitally, but I did eventually get the physical copies replaced. Legend of Dragoon definitely needs the same remake treatment that FFVII is getting. The discs are already even perfectly paced and structured to work as individual games.
Same here! Played FF7 and this game at the same time basically, but I gave up on FF7 right after I left Midgar and ended up playing this one till the end! I beat this one at 9 or 10 years old? Didn't beat Final Fantasy 7 until I was 15 or so.
I remember playing this when I was 5 or 6. I didn't understand the story because I was still learning how to read that time, but I vividly remember getting lost in this world. The art was so immersive back then. I wish they could release a remake for this on current gen. I'd love to replay this in my 20s now
Do it! I bought a ps2 slim and started a ps1 jrpg collection of all the games I've ever wanted to play. Dragoon is the first one I'm playing through and im hooked. Its a whole different experience in your 20s brotha.
@Dallas Patton Personally i just love the whole feeling of having that controller in hand, putting in the memory card, firing up the PlayStation, putting the disc in, you know, put some 90s tunes on get the whole atmosphere going, brings a lot of that magic back for me. But i'm glad you've found a way to play it brother! for the fallen hero Lavitz we ride! haha cheers man!
The story with Darts and his father was crazy! The twist about Rose was mind blowing!!! She was one of my favorite characters. Her special skills were really cool looking and did lots of damage later or healed her? I forget but she had a Lulu from FFX and Raven from Teen Titans appeal.
I remember when I was still in elementary I go to computer shop to play and there was a guy who play this game and watching him really amaze me and since then this game became one of my favorite but never played it, I just enjoy watching the guy who played it.
Played the demo on PS1 when i was a little brat, beat the snake and demo ended when you left the cave, i wanted to play more but i couldn't buy the game :(

The camera work for the cutscenes are really impressive. Like the one where the Dragon was chasing Dart, it was impressive given the hardware at the time.
This takes me back. Spend hours on this game. Loved the concept of the regular attacks needing skill to complete. The second to final skill was a pain in the ass.

I thought the combat system of this game was pretty damn cool. Loved the music as well. I’m a huge fan of rpg’s FF9 being my all time favorite, so when I bought LoD (I was in 9th grade I believe) i hoped it wasn’t a waste.. i was pleased. Also, I recently bought chrono trigger on my iPhone & I’m thoroughly enjoying it. :) the soundtrack for it is amazing. One of Wiz khalifa’s producers sampled a couple of songs from it back in the day FYI.
One of my favorite scenes is when Fruegel is talking with a swordsman wearing a black cloak and after they're done talking Fruegel angrily goes and clobbers one of the enemy soldiers causing him to fall off into a deep deadly chasm and kills him!!..... Best soldier killing scene EVER!!.....
Woah, this is pure nostalgia...taking me years back to my childhood playing endlessly games on the PS1 😮 I had the Demo of this game starting from escaping the prison and ending after killing the giant cave snake thing... I always wished for the full version, but I couldn't get my hands on it... I would love to play this again... Maybe a remastered version will appear someday in the future

03/24/2024 To this day, this game is still one of my favorites along with FF8. I still have them both but Disk 3 of Legend of Dragoon got damaged and it alone costs more that the full set back then.
Yo, I swear they need to remake this game. Not once did I ever get to level 99, but I still beat it. Man, this game was close to Final Fantasy 7 back in the day. Long hours of game play and interesting story line.
I have a faint memory of playing this in highschool, and what comes to mind is how gorgeous some of the backdrops were. Especially the cityscapes with flowing water. Looking at this almost 20 years later - yep, still best looking water in a jrpg. I remember the big one coming out at the time was FFIX, and honestly, this looked much better to me. Yeah the 3d models here are bad, but so were almost all 3d models on PS1. But honestly, I’ve almost never seen this much character put into the environment in a jrpg. Ok, Vagrant Story maybe. What else?
i was a kid learning to play RPG and this one and FF7 was my two favorites! i never got to beat this game tho, one day i just stopped playing because the boss never died lol xD

+fenni ken As I said in the description, the video was recorded with PSXJin and this was a rather problematic emulator, which does not work all the games and other works with problems in graphic or sound but was the only one with AVI Output I had at the time, today we have the Bizhawk which is a much better option. ;)

They (unfortunately) weren't popular enough. While this game sold rather well in America, it wasn't as well-received in Japan.
If i weren't so garbage at 3d modeling and texturing id make it myself.

The Legend of Dragoon? Hell yeah. A game that is loved but still not at the levels it should be.

In my opinion, this game had a better story than Final Fantasy Vii. It remains one of the greatest video games of all time. Criminally under-rated.
