What's so historically awesome about this is John refused to play any CCR for a large crowd for 15 years, until this day. Awesome reason behind John breaking tradition and doing this for the Vets. These guys/gals got quite the treat.
Amazing to find this. I was at this concert. The show ended with Fogerty's set. It was the first time he was able to perform these tunes live in over 10 years, due to legal crap. This was a long, amazing day. James Brown, CSN, Neil Young, John Sebastian, Anita Baker, Neil Diamond, among many others. Thanks for posting this!!!
I remember him tripping everyone out. He was 10 times better than any of the other acts. There was Crosby,Stills, Nash and others who were just shells of their old self. Then Fogerty came on and nailed it, like... I'm just as good as I ever was!! Especially playing the music that the vets in the trenches used to listen to.
Best Concert Ever, and yes, he nailed it, I remember how wild the crowd got when he came on. My late husband was a Vietnam Vet and this concert was so cathartic.
@@elizabethkelly2114 I was about to say what a wonderful gift for you guys. But you expressed it from your first hand experience. Very special!! Thanks. When you think about it, it really was a heartfelt gift from John, cos this was the first concert that he had sung his CCR songs in 15 yrs. He put his personal anger aside for you guys. I love him to bits. It's my favourite concert video on YT.
Happy I found this. I was there. Backstage. On Proud Mary, was onstage even got a short close-up. Been hoping to see this since 87. Talked with John C. b4 he gigged and talked about CCR. And how the Vets came for CCR music. Andhow i had seen them and crashed their pres conference post gig in Boston, the day Hendrix died. I like to think this was the result of out discussion.
Growing up int he 60s I went to scores of concerts, but there is none could ever compare to the energy and emotion of this concert, especially for Vietnam Vets like my late husband. It is one of my favorites memories in my lifetime.
Este tema lo escucho desde que tengo conciencia, gracias a mis papas, hoy que tengo 22 años debo agradecer a Dios por dar tan potente voz a Fogerty que es imposible de olvidar y de imitar.
Same in Australia!!! Absolutely disgusting!!! One good thing that came out of it was getting John back on stage singing CCR songs for the first time in 15 yrs. What a gift for the vets.
I was there with my late husband, a Vietnam Vet; I could never find any more tape other than with John Fogerty. Try this one: John Fogerty 7 4 1987 welcome home vietnam veterans benefit concert TV Footage
I was there too!!! At the (then) CAP CENTRE ...for the entire 10.5 hour show!!! HBO broadcast it LIVE, & then re-played it ONCE some time later. I forget exactly when, but I *laid-out sick* from work (whoops!) so I could watch it on tv!!! HBO should release it on dvd!!! (This clip is the only part I have seen on YT.) It was so DAMN AWESOME !!!!
This clip from the classic FM simulcast “live” from the approximately three hour long concert has never been released in any format. Why? Fortunately my VHS recorder (🙂) and the tape later converted to DVDs, the full Welcome Home has been enjoyed here for decades.
It was great that John played his Creedence songs for the vets, music that had meant so much to so many of them. It was a great performance and clearly the vets in the audience were loving it. But it bugged me at the time and still does that he talked about his "20 years of pain," not here on this video, but it was just after playing Down on the Corner, as if his legal hassles with Fantasy and his old band mates were comparable to what these guys who'd been to hell and back had been through. As far as I know lawsuits don't blow your legs off or give you PTSD. Instead of offering advice on coping with their pain, maybe he should've asked for some advice from them.
That's honestly not what he was drawing a parallel on. He was insinuating you can either continue to carry emotional baggage or accept the past for what happened and move on with you life. Link below: ua-cam.com/video/A2UknGjCkCI/v-deo.html
20 years of self-inflicted pain... And he is still talking about his pain to this day every time he gets the chance, it's such a big part of his story and identity. He never takes responsibility for anything that goes wrong, only the things that go right. I will always admire John's songs, but he seems to have a fragile ego that has ruined much for him.
@@primtones I agree. It doesn't make me love CCR or John's music any less, but it's sad that here's a man who has lived a life making music, a rich man living in a Beverly Hills mansion, successful by any measure, and the main object of his hatred Zantz is long dead and he still can't let it go.
@@Matt-mh5ud I understand what he was saying. It just got me that he could stand up in front of a crowd of Vietnam Vets and talk about his own problems.
I was there and I loved it.

John FUCKIN Fogerty!!!!!!!!!!! The King Of Rock N' Roll (at least in my opinion)

Just so awesome that voice !!!!!!!!!
extraordinary concert by historical memory .
Trying to say "Welcome Home" to Viet vets 15 years too late, well, that's a little better than nothing, but it was indeed cold comfort.
