Based on James Clavell’s novel, FX’s Shōgun is set in Japan in the year 1600 at the dawn of a century-defining civil war. Lord Yoshii Toranaga is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.

Honestly, we're in awe.
Where's fuji sama?
Shōgun is the best season of television of this year . The scale and the scope of this series is phenomenal , I hope Shōgun deserve some emmy awards ⚔️⚔️⚔️ .
I won't be satisfied unless its a freaking sweep on all categories else its freaking "Crimson Sky !!!!"
The entire production is genius and they all merit an Emmy and Golden Globe.
Better than CGI, a great , well researched and well designed set can bring actors into character. This also brought the viewers into the period and the scene. When watching it, it felt as though it's real and it is happening now. I even had a dream about it because I was affected by one of the episodes. I really hope Shogun wins a lot of awards.
All of the sets were augmented by CGI
@@marctwinam-cauchi3488 Yeah, sorry, I meant heavy CGI. Thanks for the correction 👍
@@marctwinam-cauchi3488 if you compare it to things like Mandalorian where the actor is in a room with a screen and the desert in the background, this is as real as it gets in 2024.
This show deserves so so many awards it’s incredible
We ate it up... we literally devoured it! 👏
Criminal this is only 5 minutes. This could be a whole season in and off itself. This was amazing. I wish you could bring more behind the scenes content like this. I was blown away at the scale and scope.
“A cracking good yarn.”
Understatement beyond all measure. This series was Fantastic!
A show made by absolute masters of their craft, it's amazing.
The crew did a phenomenal job. Glad to see them get recognized
Perfection is the only adjective I could associate with this series. It describes every aspect of this show. Truly a masterpiece....I am in absolute awe
Wow, I had never seen Shinnosuke Abe who played Buntaro before. His portrayal as a stoic & brooding but fiercely loyal samurai was absolutely epic yet he is totally different in real life as he is seen talking about Vancouver & the set at around @0:20 What a performance. He shows up again at around @04:30. He is a totally different person from Buntaro, it’s crazy. Man, I really love the behind the scenes stuff.
The entire cast was incredible. The major characters were like Blackthorne, Toranaga & Mariko were all crushed by Cosmo Jarvis, Hiroyuki Sanada & Anna Sawai respectively, but the supporting cast was just as incredible. I loved how the actors inhabited the roles of Ishido, Lady Ochiba, Yahushige, Buntaro, & Father Alvito among others. All of the sets, costumes, cinematography, etc was all superlative but the actors did a lot of the heavy lifting of the story telling which brought it all together in a work of art. But man, the sets are just immaculate & incredible. The attention to detail is unreal. All the artisans & artists who worked on the sets should be very proud of their work. They deserve respect & recognition.
They had big shows to fill as the book is a classic & the 1980 tv miniseries was beloved & groundbreaking for the time, yet they surpassed expectations. The show blew me away especially when so many remakes or reboots have been duds.
Shogun has gotten a lot of critical acclaim but a lot of love by a new generation of fans from this amazing remake. The finale really personified it all. Many expected a special effects cgi eye candy battle but it was the acting, exposition, dialogue & story telling of the finale that really wrapped all up exquisitely with a bow on top. True mastery of film making. Despite the finale not being an eye candy spectacle it seems as if everyone really loved the finale. If they don’t get the recognition & awards they deserve it’ll be a total travesty.
The novel ends, but Japanese history gets more interesting from there. The Battle of Sekigahara, a fierce battle between Toranaga's (Ieyasu) army of 70,000 and Ishido's (Mitsunari) army of 80,000, is comparable to Game of Thrones.
After that, Toranaga wins and unifies the country,
but Toranaga and Lady Ochiba (Yodo-dono), who defected to Toranaga and led him to victory, engage in a battle at Osaka Castle in the "Winter Siege" and "Summer Siege".
Please make a season 2.
I still want to see "Shogun".
The Battle of Sekigahara was indeed legendary and the most significant event in Japan's history, many interesting things happen right after until the Meiji period such as the rise of the legendary swordsman, Miyamoto Mushashi, the Battle of Sanada Maru and the Shimazu Clan
It will be tough and challenging to be put into fiction
The attention for detail is amazing
One of the best things about this show!
Favorite show of the year.
My absolute thanks and appreciation for all these amazing artists and creators who helped made this story so real and special! You all deserve the greatest of respect and love for your incredible work.
Absolutely stunning across every area: story, sets, stunts, acting, script, costume, score. This will scoop a bazillion awards when award season arrives and deservedly so. An iconic series.
Next work looking forward to it !
Beautiful
Tidbit, the province of BC was also the location where the Japanese internment camps were located around the time of WW2.
Just Breath Taking...I am so impressed by the work you all did to bring this world to life...the only thing wrong with SHOGUN is that it was not twice as long....A Dreamscape...
It looks so majestic that it's kind of a bummer that they'll have to tear it down.
I wish they would retain it for like a year if possible and have people go to it as like a tourist area and where people can take pictures, if the govt allows it, like what was done in the hobbit houses for LOTR in NZ.
Hiroyuki Sanada has signed on for a potential next season
every second was breathtaking art.
INCREDIBLE!!!!!
Amazing!
Buntaro's actor speaks very good English
Never once did I think that it was a film set. Everything looked like it was in Japan at several of their historic temples. I suppose it almost would be easier to build new ones than try to edit out all of the modern additions over the past 400 years. I'm so happy that the show truly inhabited the essence of the time period and the books with uncompromising details.
used in drama.
I would like to see an exhibition of costumes, furniture, paintings, armor, and swords.
Holy moly, all this while I thought they shot the series in Japan, the sets were just fantastic, so much detail to everything, it looks more than realistic. If you have such a set, you just cannot go wrong!!💯🔥🔥
They did an incredible job.
best FX show I've seen
The architecture is amazing. The wood structure & panelling is another level. Nothing vulgar & ostentatious. It can stay after the film shooting, as archives or even museum for culture appreciation. The great part? No CGI.
absolutely phenomenal
The set design was beautifully done, I can't believe most of it was actually built and not CGI
This Vancouverite so appreciates this show and this particular vid.
Breathe taking
Awesome series, and amazing performance by everyone. Not just the actors but everyone behind the scenes. True artistry from start to finish.
I want more!!! I'll wait 5-10 years if I have to...but more is needed!!
What an amazing show. Thanks.
We all ate it up, Helen Jarvis
More,more!❤
Breath-taking!
I could watch longer of these videos! They are very interesting.
the set is incredible but surely it makes more sense to have filmed this in Japan right when most of these structures would already be built. Wonder why they chose Vancouver when there are similar landscapes in Japan as well.
I hope they preserve it I want to visit😮
Kudos!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You've all done an exceptional job. I feel you will get your emmys and golden globes for this but also new better work and projects your way cause of how amazing your work in Shogun really was ❤
Buntaro !
Speaking English even lol
Not only did I eat all the crumbs, and lick the whole plate clean, I think I also ate the whole dining table.
Oh we ate 🎉
i can live here
felt that
Thirteen years after the time of this drama, in 1613, John Sallis came to Japan seeking trade, carrying a letter of state from King James I of England.
His interpreter was Adams. During these 13 years, his Japanese became proficient and he began to behave in a Japanese-like manner.
John Sallis described Adams as follows: "He was Japanese in every way.
"He enforced Japanese customs in everything he did. We call him "Japanese with a European face.
Anjin also described him as "big in attitude, arrogant, ignorant, and a greenhorn! This was the reason why Anjin did not return to England, despite receiving permission from the Shogun the following year to lead a delegation back home.
I ate it all up. Now I crave more though!
TV show of the year!
if they actually are planning on making a season 2 i hope they will make it more authentic by actually filming in japan
I miss watching this show
Please get this team together to make a series set in Tenochtitlan.
Would love to be able to find the area where they filmed the different scenes in Port Moody, and appreciate the show for turning my home province into such a mystical storyscape
You guys did an amazing job with the show!! If possible to make a second and third and fourth season please do so 😂OR make a movieeeee 😍😍🙏🙏
Who wants a sequel with Fuji and her time in the nunnery? I'd totally watch
Could someone please let me know exactly where in Vancouver this is? I would love to visit there.
I live in vancouver and i cant get over how they actually created japan here
This show was not full of action or epic moments, it was not extremely thrilling, nor full of plot twists. It was just a perfect Japanese poetry!
You guys! The IMDB score dropped, lets work together to get votes up to 9.2 again 😊😊 for the actors reputation. Thank you in advance
Dimana lokasi desa saat anjin sama menarik kapalnya bersama penduduk desa?
Wow! That is the only thing I can say
If they didn't tell me it was Vancouver, I might not have ever been 100% sure. And this is from someone who's spent 20+ years watching countless TV shows filmed in Vancouver and passing it off as all parts of the world, and even alien planets.
Can we visit the set?
I know location in maps

What was Shogun’s budget? Remarkable level of detail!
a few pounds
MOREEE MOREE MOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Should have been 2 seasons
I was just getting into it and next thing you know it's over, why so short
The production quality of this series is Lord of the Rings movie tier. How lucky we are to get 10 episodes of this
Too bad this isn’t longer. I wish they could do something akin to the Appendices in Lord of the Rings.
Why didn’t they film in Japan and rent premade buildings where possible? Wouldn’t that have been cheaper esp w the favorable yen exchange?
why u guys using FIFA's The Journey soundtrack? I feel like Alex Hunter was gonna pop up any minute now.
Osaka in Vancouver 🏩
Make an adaptation of taiko and musashi by eiji yoshikawa with this same level.
Do tell - detail
That’s me ruined me for future historical dramas
It's a pity that they seemed to wrap it up the show towards the end rather hastily ...Regardless of the beautiful set design.
It should have been a longer show.
Is Helen Jarvis related to Cosmo Jarvis?
No relation. (Although I am. I’m the lucky guy married to Helen.)
Thank you Helen’s Husband! :) Your wife and the team knocked the production artistry of that show out of the ballpark! It’s amazing! It felt like getting transported back in a time machine.
please make a 2nd season even if you have to make up a story
8 episodes for this it's an offence.
Buntaro is speaking English 😂lol
I think I saw a catfish 😂
Is very beautiful the series of 1980, the new series this very bad, sorry.
Need Hindi dubbed version for Indian audiance, If it was in full English language, it would have been fine, but it is Japanese language, you guys should try to dub it in Hindi language for Indian audience.
I love Shogun, but I suspect the reason the show ended the way it did was they ran out of money.
The ending may seem abrupt at the first glance, but if you think about it, the entire story has been told and wrapped up. All the intrigues have played out. The remaining ultimate showdown at Sekigahara was already described to us. Toranaga will reunite the country under the Shogunate power, and lock it down for the next 200+ years.
The book it's based on pretty much ends that way. The decisive war is one page in the epilogue if I'm remembering correctly. In fact, I think of the finale as an epilogue. The war was won in Ep 9. Ep 10 was just tying up loose ends (finishing character arcs).
Its exactly how the book ended though....
The book ended that way but also the budget this show had was not one where they'd just 'run out' of funding.
