my opinion is that despite the restrictions in technique and knowledge about mapping, your average map still felt more unique. The clunky sliders added to that sensation of uniqueness I believe. Basically, today it's much easier to make cool sliders and challenging jump maps, because there's so many resources, editor changes and maps out there to learn from. I guess it's still a positive thing, but maps like cycle hit bugs me so much because of these reasons. It plays well, its tidy, but it's just so boring and monotone throughout to me since I first played it in your average multiplayer game, and it feels like I'm playing every other ranked wub type map out there. However from a players perspective, this map is fast, wubby and challenging, which I guess makes it... good? That being said there are very well made wub type maps with unique features being made today, so I guess it's worth it, but I just get a bad taste in my mouth (ears) whenever I hear that kind of music in osu these days. The same goes for TV size since ppv2. Sure there were your average andrea tv size back in the day with fixed snapping, but that was never really -the- meta, and besides using it as yet another map to farm score / ppv1, there was much more... diversity in them. unlike the typical jump spam and easily farmable structuring you see today in every TV size. tldr; I prefer unique shitty looking maps over tidy factory farm maps.
How to get a ranked map: Step 1: Use a J-Pop/Anime song, make sure it's below 2 minuets. Step 2: Add lots of PP farm jumps. Step 3: Congrats, now just look for months for a nomination!
There are many cases in which this just doesn't work, if not the vast majority of them. I'm not implying that your point is not valid but saying it in this way makes it a bit extreme and not really true. It's harder than what it looks like, trust me.
imagine before when maps >10mil score could be ranked everyone would just abuse repeats and make 3* 50min maps the length of the unforgiving by copypasting the mp3 over and over then people would farm those
That sounds good in theory, but that already is what ppv2 wants to be. A system fixing the errors of the previous ones. Maybe they overdid it, i don't know. Besides, how would you make that work?
@@mercylessplayer take score, multiply it by ppv2, and divide by some large number to make the result a more manageable number? or possibly the square root of score since the score will be innately a lot larger than ppv2?
Except that maps under ppv2 system isn't exactly hard, the patterns are really easy to follow. 4* maps back then maps to almost every note in the song, with appropriate stream and jumps, while 4* nowadays are often more or less an afterthought, with very simple patterns
Pishi, could you perhaps do an episode on very simplistic styles of mapping such as maps by nasya and haruru? I used to despise their mapping style but for whatever reason i love it now. That makes me think about the connection between playing skills and mapping. A year ago (before i quit mapping and playing for 9 months) i was very good at streaming but couldnt jump, and my maps had a lot of fucking streams, but now im better at jumps but cant stream as well anymore and ive switched to a minimalist mapping style where i rarely ever map streams and have a lot of really big slider jumps. I dont know if theres anything to this but i think it could be interesting.
If the video was meant to take attention away from pp to focus on other important things that occured, doesnt including pp in the title of the video go against that?
just wanna say really appreciate these guests and their insight lately, thank you
speare?????? YOOOO
i miss the days when everything was 5 star, made me actually feel like i was good at the game c:
nice meme still remember the time i got rekt playing freedom dive another diff, cuz it's 4.5 stars lul
Mood 😂😂😂😂
When he said "discussed" at the beginning, I honestly thought he was going to say "disgusting" for some reason...
4:27 when pishi's example is better than my overall mapping kms
This is the closest pishi will get to making a pp map video
osu!mapping: pp
:pp
i think lazer sliders could work well with wipe transitions in storyboards or videos

Or just be Sotarks/Monstrata
imo it's easier to rank a lower diff mapset or a 5 min marathon map rather than make a full spread for a tv size anime opening
You forgot the clickbait background picture
Or just make something high quality, play it on multi with others and be active when it comes to sharing it with others.... Naah, too troublesome.

I guess only ranked maps counted and such stuff did not get ranked? It sounds too stupid
wait, when did pishi release his video on the approved section again?
pp < mapping.
Score ranking favors long easy maps
Ppv2 favors short hard maps
Score ranking +Ppv2 = the perfect ranking system?
