I saw a live production of this in a community theater. It was a one time performance held on Good Friday. Herod was dressed like Louis XIV (The Sun King) completely with gold lame 18th century French court attire, make-up and pink wig. He sang this song equally flamboyant like a caricature of a drag queen. The performer who played Jesus was stripped to his short shorts, tied to a pole and authentically flogged, bleeding welts and all. The crucifixion scene included a real crown of thorns and he was tied up to a cross and hung that way for over twenty minutes. The actor insisted that everything be a real as possible though I think they were going for shock value. The audience gasped a lot. The woman playing Mary Magdalene had the longest hair I'd ever seen, not a wig and she literally dried his feet and legs with it after washing his feet. The actor who played Jesus was in his late twenties, a citizen of Israel visiting the US and added a lot of authenticity with his Israeli accent.
"Key change!" and "Get out of my song!" killed me ☠️😆
This is the best version I’ve seen on this little rabbit hole I just fell into 🤘🔥
1:15 that "ohwOh - oh what a pity" so good so delish

What... er... colorful imagery. I would've liked to see that production, but I also dread seeing a production like that if that makes sense lmao

What the hell happened to them
It's *traditionally* weird and show-offy; I think this one takes that notion a bit further than usual.
"Healing cretins"...?
It wouldn't be entirely out of character as depicted, but the line is "healing cripples".
This is sacrilege
