The Detroit Pistons of the early 2000s are underrated.
I was really happy when the Pistons won the championship in 2004.

Sheed had one last really underrated season with the Celtics that made it to OT of Game 7 of the 2010 Finals. Really exemplified of when the dude would coast, but also when he turned it on, it was clear that he was a top player in the league.
When you think of 2001, and how stacked the power forward position was league-wide: Duncan, Garnett, Nowitzki, Webber, Karl Malone was still delivering, Walker, Davis, Horry, Baker, Glenn Robinson, McDyess... all mentioned Rasheed, when he was on, as their toughest opponent.

That two ball shot was crazy-great job finding this content!
I‘ve seen Sheed similar during his career, great potential yet never really in the brightest spotlight.
But though I really like the guy and think he‘d be a perfect fit for todays game (if you‘d sew his mouth shut of course),I‘d argue over Top 5 PF-there‘s been so much quality even if we‘d only include his timeframe!

Check out the recent interview with Sheed and Wells. He was unselfish on purpose. Wells said he was telling Sheed to go get his like the other premier forwards but Sheed said he didn’t want the offense to be focused around him because if he got hurt the other players would have to do stuff they were not use too. So it wasn’t that he underperformed, he was the ultimate team first player. I still wished he went in more. He had the talent to do so.

I loved Rasheed, I started really following basketball when the Rockets won their two rings, and I saw how Robert Horry was an outside shooting big man, and I thought that's what a great power forward should be, Rasheed was that before Dirk made it big. I think Rasheed had a good career, but he could've had an even better one if his focus was there.

Hall of Fame is too image-oriented; they only want dudes who fit their squeaky-clean image. It's why it took Tim Hardaway so long to get in, because he said he wasn't comfortable with gay people or something decades ago. I'm sure some voters don't like how many techs Rasheed got even though HE WAS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT about the refs being biased against certain players and corrupt.

I agree that he underperformed a little due to him constantly getting into it with refs and getting techs and ejections. I think he could have been on at least Webber's level if he had let a few things slide once in a while. Granted, he was still one of my favorite players. He was extremely versatile and elite offensively and defensively. And I appreciated 99% of the passion.
If you dropped prime late 90s/early 2000s Rasheed into the no defense allowed 2024 NBA, he would fail hard. However if he was brought up with the NBA already being soft, he'd be a top 3 pf now, competing with Davis and Giannis.
