True Carolina fans know this story. It’s been around for decades. When the team got off the plane at RDU, then hit campus, Coach Smith was missing. We found out he was in Philly recruiting some kid.
I remember the stories about Rasheed playing NBA Jamz in Chapel Hill too
@@scottharm3932 I vaguely remember hearing stories about this when I was a freshman, I guess student union used to have some arcade cabs. MKII also
Dean smith was different
Dean Smith established that "Giving Back" mentality with his players over his career. It's a beautiful legacy that is still going on after his passing.
Dean Smith was a class act coach. Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse, Dante Callebria were solid players at Carolina. MJ, Sam Perkins coming back to play against them in the summer was a tradition.
I met Sheed in North Philly while he was with the Pistons at the time. He is the most down to earth dude ever. He pretty much had the same gear he has on now. You wouldn't even know he was a millionaire by what he was wearing .
Sheed might just be one of the most under appreciated ballers of all time. Dude was money all day
Without him the pistons don't win!! If Rick Carlisle had sheed they would have been champions in 03
I member when sheed came into his own with the uptowns on..
Rasheed could have won 4 championships and then he'd be seen differently but the great teams he was on always had bad luck. Like those great 2000 Blazers or the Piston's trying to repeat. Also, Celtics could have beaten the Lakers in 2010.
@@zeaferjones1404 Dude’s a HOFer if you ask me
His bark made him intolerable. Real ballers would never make that comment we know dude got game that’s all the appreciation that matters
That Tarheel brotherhood is different. RIP Dean Smith
Not as good as the U but they solid.
Lol dude it’s been like this for 75 years at unc seriously…. Maybe it’s been this way at the u since the late 80’s early 90’s
I'm a huge UNC FAN and this is the first time I've heard this story. RIP DEAN E SMITH
Coach Smith always humble and willing to humble. Humility with grace is so uncommon nowadays.
One of the Best Defenders I’ve ever seen. He was the only guy to guard Timmy.
An incredible offensive player as well. When he was in P-Town they all tried to make him into something he didn’t want. Still amazing player
Anyone who has had a influential coach, man those stories are always legendary!
Love you Rasheed! Favorite UNC player of all time. That 95' team is still my favorite. Sheed, Stack, MCinnis, then Carter, Jamison and then Cota. Those days will never be forgotten.
I still can't believe that team with Stack and Sheed didn't get a championship.
Mine is Julius Peppers
Probably the best athlete ever to come out of UNC, if not top 3 next to MJ and LT
Neither was as big as Julius tho
@@hippotuskman7808 Good one! The crazy thing is that I didn't even know Julius Peppers played football until the year he and Ronald Curry decided to skip basketball in preparation for the NFL draft. I looked up his football stats and realized we had a monster on the basketball squad the whole time 😂. Julius Peppers was a great player and even better person.
Ed Cota was an amazing college player, I was always surprised he never really stuck around in the NBA, his court vision and passing skill was insane.
Wait… i forgot about that squad
Who was there again 😂
Rasheed Wallace is one of the beat of my Era.... that's how I can spot a bum.... they don't compare on no level of to competitors.... Rasheed was just trying to win the game.... even when he was old .... he was still able to play because he learned the game from the King of management of the clock ball movement play as a team.... An it showed in college OK the court as well as the NBA this man was a First round pick... All Star... a one of the original stretch bigs... can handle the ball,,, play with his back to the basket pass... An most PLAY MAN D..... he played man against HOF players.........respect
I legit laughed out loud when Sheed told the Dean Smith story 🤣🤣🤣
the impersonation of him was spot on too.
Me too 🤣
Sheed is on point. I met Coach Ford while working at the Carolina Basketball Camp. When I said I was from Philly and live around the corner from the Wallace family (Malcolm, Muhammad and Sheed).
While talking with Coach Ford he told us the exact same story and shared how much he loves their family. Note, Sheed’s brother (my classmate) played the O line in football and when they called that had him pull he was pancaking anyone in sight.
Shout out to the Wallace family, the Burnham family and Boyer Street.
TSSV….. if you know you know. #Philly215
I went to UNC and teach at TSU. I always tell my students Dean Smith stories. Great man, great mind. Thanks. RASHEED!
are you blasting everything at TSU?
Texas southern?
Always loved Sheed. Ball Don’t Lie!
I appreciate Rasheed's respect and Honor of Dean Smith.
RIP City guy born and raised. I literally still wear my Rasheed jersey all the time. Absolute legend for the Blazers. He went to war for RIP City every single time.
I'm still trying to get a Sheed Blazers Jersey. I would wear it as much as i can.
@@raulmeza1564 💯
Mack Brown came to the hood to recruit my older brother for football. He even wall to the bodega to get a corn muffin and a green tea
He’s right about Phil Ford. #12 🙌
Glad Phil is gettin his due. I'm a Maryland Terrapin and that dude killed us.
Worthy , Jordan , Wallace , Carter . Wow, the amount of talent that passed through UNC is amazing. There are only a handful of schools which had incredible icons in their rosters. I can think of UCLA, Kansas, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and Georgetown. Sorry if I missed some names on this list.
It was a bad shot😂😂😂gotta love old school coaches
As a Duke fan i was happy when sheed and Stackhouse went to the draft SMFH i still get nightmares of Stackhouse and that reverse Duke on Duke at Duke
That was freaking nasty!
They left but Jamison and Carter walked right in.
Loved watching His 95' UNC team. Dean Smith is the greatest coach of all time in my book. His players became Legends on the court & off the court.
The WORK of A Champion🏆 NEVER rest. Why? Because when You're A Champion, You don't want to. 🤩
UNC....an Amazing basketball program. So much heritage there.
Thats dope for real💯old heads against the young bulls showing up and getting that run in teaching and schooling love it❤💯💪🏽-- thats very🤞🏾bball brother hood.
Coach Stackhouse now! That’s love man
His story telling himself impeccable 🤣🤣 made me feel l like I was actually there great interview sheed!!! 👍🏽
I really like UNC although I am a die hard UCONN fan. I always rooted for them vs Duke.
The 1995 team was one of Coach Smith's finest hours. Great starting five but absolutely no bench. Pearce Landry who was one of the few reserves who saw significant playing time was a former walk-on. Wow!
This is the one I been waiting for Sheed was my dude
One of a kind. Wish the bulls or Cavs got to have him but I’m glad he played for my cousins pistons so I could still root for him to some degree lol
Gaye
Good to see Sheed give Phil Ford his props. I'm a Maryland Terrapin. He gave us fits running the Four Corners
When I was there from '76 to '80 we used to get it in at Wollen gym. I was a football player, they used to love to play with and against us!! We used to rough em up, we had some ballers on our football team too
UNC summer runs = best basketball ever played.
"If Rasheed Wallace was selfish he'd be the best player in the league "Charles Barkley
Good stuff. More ‘sheed interviews, please. #PistonLegend
I remember in the early Fall of 1994 (late August as it was the 1st week of classes) heading to the Duke Student weightroom (Card Gym) but skipping my workout cause an All-Star crew of former & current Duke and UNC players were playing pick-up.
I watched for at least 60-75 minutes.
That was almost 30 years ago but I think it was G. Hill, Hurley, J. Capel, Cherokee Parks, Laettner, E. Montross (RIP sir), ‘Sheed, Stackhouse, Donald Williams, Jeff MccInnis….it was at least 10 guys from each school alternating runs.
It's No story better then Dean Smith coming to get you after The National Championship Game......
love sheed, hakeem is my favorite center and sheed is my favorite pf, no disrespect to Tim Duncan, he is the goat PF , sheed is just my favorite pf.
North Carolina basketball. That's a brotherhood
Wallace a legend
One of my Top 3 PF Rodman,Duncan ,Sheed
Man that team was awesome y they didn't win it all still baffled me to this day the came at Duke was one of the greatest games in far heel history GO HEELS I'm from
Philly and I know this story R.I.P DEAN
Everybody from Philly knew about this story it was a big thing at the time...The word of mouth era was nothing to sleep on if it really went down it spread like wildfire!!
Sheed is my favorite player ever, ball don’t lie. #GDTBATH
Damn love this dude much respect.
Great story! RIP Dean Smith!
Imma DIE hard Heels fan and I've never heard this story, glad I heard this #GDTBATH
Phil Ford was the Greatest Tar Heel of all time!!! Rasheed was the best 4 in the game from 98-01
Hey, 'Sheed...Coach Elerbee and Smigel are proud of you. Dean Smith invited you to join the ranks of Jordan, Worthy, etc.
I love Sheed!
Luv Wallace
Remember when Joe Buddens came out, everyone thought it was really Rasheed Wallace under an alias. Now that I hear Sheed talk for awhile he really does sound like Joe.
Have to bring that Assistant to finish the deal. IYKYK
The One UNC Team that That I Really Wanted Too See Win the Chip.. Donald Williams Couldn't Shoot Well Enough In the Tournament
Didn't help that Stack got injured first play of the game. Or that Rasheed got bullied a little by Corliss Williamson.
Corliss Was A Real College Power Forward..
"Big Nasty" I Forgot they Called Him that . 🤣😂
only time in all the videos have I seen Rasheed refer to anyone as Coach, when he called him Coach Smith. That says a lot
Show up that night or next day after cutting down those nets damn near gotta be like hook line and sinker.
I thought stackhouse would’ve been more. I remember him wearing the cut off shirt sleeve like MJ
Love that the alumni always come back to improve the new players. How it should always be. Give back!
Rick Fox has a great Dean Smith story.
Corliss Williamson says hello
RIP coach
Michael Jordan had the scoring record in the McDonald's all American game. Jerry Stackhouse messed around and broke the record. Mike wore him out every time he saw him after that, all the way into his pro career.
Iron sharpens iron.
Dean Smith 13 times in a row to the Sweet Sixteen or better 81-93 winning two NCAA National Titles, second best streak, only John Wooden 10 NCAA Tiles in Twlene Final Fours could be better.
You know damn good and well who has a better streak! 😉
Nobody.@@user-fv5yl9zp8u
Whish he would have played for Coach Channey at Temple.
Heck no
Carolina
🐏
Go Heels!
Tarheel nation
'93 not 93' the point of the ' is to take the place of 19 in 1993.
You're just a fun guy at parties
@@moblack5883 I am but I also take my profession seriously unlike the people at SHOWTIME.

Anyone else see a side profile of a face made up from the plant leaves on the viewers left?
Met him twice, he was tripping. SMH
Put your hat on straight and show these young brothers how to carry yourself
Lay off the meth
Uh oh, that white power sign lol
It's crazy to see these OLD men w/their hats cocked to the side & not going into their glory yrs w/prestige! Still dressing like the youth & won't let it go! Give the one's coming up something to look forward to.......#dressyourage!!!
They rich. They can dress naked everyday and still be more successful than you will EVER BE 🤷🏾♂️
@@michaelsledge3904 How do u know?
@@theALMIGHTY987 your comment spoke volumes 🤣
@@michaelsledge3904 So let me get this straight, u can make unfounded comments a/b but I can't do it to them??
You think prestige comes from your clothes? That says it all
Too bad he couldn’t beat Bobby Knight
Love sheed but hate him for leaving Big shot Bob open in the finals. Wtf?
He made one mistake. Didn't make too many major ones after.
What’s that nigha name
Rasheed Wallace!
E-40
Rasheed, you’re 50. Put your hat on right
@Jnitty 😂😂😂😂 exactly
@Jnitty facts!!! What does how you wear a hat matter?
@jnitty236hurt your feelings 🤷♂️
Back to Business is slavery Business, the plantations must keep stockpiling with commerce.
Maaannnnn!!! smh
All this BLM talk you better not like women outside of your race lol keep it G all the way through my guy Otherwise you forfeit that blackness talk
@Michael Campbell. As Don Barzini said in The Godfather: "After all, we are not Communists". And those TarHeels are paid pretty well for slaves. We should all be so fortunate, bro...
Lol wtf. Cuz they went back to working hard to achieve sumn. Damn bro I’ll gone and give you a like cuz you want it 😂
Coach Smith was integral in integrating Chapel Hill restaurants when he and Charlie Scott, his first black player, wasn’t allowed to be seated. Coach Smith had a great record on civil rights. You are talking out of the side of your neck, quite honestly.
And this every summer it's a tar heel tradition but can u imagine the games they had 7 could tape those games and make a killing
It baffles me him and Stack never win a National Championship. 🫤🤔
