I didn't love my champ thunderbird until it beat into a really nice 0|1 stability. Now it's one of the best discs in my bag. Rides flat for a good ways down the fairway and then has a gentle fade late in it's flight.

I love my Anax. I have a slightly more beat in, high weight one that is money on those slightly windier days, especially when it's a right to left wind.
My experience with thunderbirds have been mixed. I've owned two. One was straight and I could throw it farther than everything I owned at the time. It was a flatter champion run. I've played a lot since I lost that one and gotten the arm speed to throw 12 speeds. Recently I bought a domey champ thunderbird and it flies like a firebird for me. Low distance and meat hook.
I think if you're comparing a disc head-to-head, maybe consider giving points based on where they land in relation to the basket. This video for example, comparing fairway drivers... landing in circle 2 = 1 point, circle 1 = 2 points. And don't putt with that disc either. Missing a putt with a 10 speed takes away point value for that disc, when that's not even it's intended purpose. I think this would show a better apples-to-apples comparison between discs when you value where they land in relation to the basket and not putting with them. Nobody's gonna putt with an Anax, Tesla, or Thunderbird. Appreciate the content as always! If you're ever in the Dayton, Ohio area (huge disc golf zone, btw)... would be happy to meet up for a Bodanza battle!

Before watching; This will probably be the most interesting video for me personally that you've ever done. Decided on doing form on 9-10 speeds (19-21mm rim but not marked as 11 speeds) for the off-season. So extended my few an Orc, an "old" Flash first run, Viking Discs Fenrir, Berserker, to a used Invictus, used Firebird and some Prodigy H1v2, H3v2 and FX-2. Mostly beefy af but the distance was not the goal really, but controlled clean throws. Not gotten much throwing done sadly... The Thunderbird in G★tar is on my wishlist if I can get it in a nice color.
That was a good one! Get some more 10-speeds-isch and compare them for me please, pretty please ;) The only problem is my forehand being 200-250' still, I've never been able to throw balls or anything far so I guess I'll work hard on getting to 300' forehands and then use turnovers instead... ^_^
The Anax is definitely my favorite disc in my bag. I actually started bagging two now cuz my first one is pretty good beat in right now and i wanted one that flies like it did at the beginning, although I throw the first one way more. It flies like a farther Teebird/Athena disc right now
The Jerm thunderbird sounds kinda like what you want that champ bird to be. Especially the 2022s. Significantly less OS than champ or even some of the regular stock run star thundies. I'm not "good" but that's my forehand driver and it works great for that slot for me
I've heard that and I bought one but actually gave it away! If I still wanted to bag thunderbirds I'd probably grab some of those but I don't want to have to spend 30 for that slot honestly if there are competitors. Plus, I'm tyring to get a different manufacturer in each slot and I probably want innova for somewhere else lol
I was comming here to say this. The 2022 Jerm thunderbirds are awesome. And flat top too. 👌 i agree champ thundys are super OS and I still bag one for my OS and the Jerm 2022 for between the champ and my escapes
One thing I can weigh in on - I have bagged all three molds, Anax, Tesla and Thunderbird and can say Thunderbirds definitely have consistency issues compared to the other two. I recently bought two champion Thunderbirds and one is not only way grippier but also has a much higher parting line (dark purp, translucent) and is stable enough to handle power forehands no problem. The not so grippy one (pink, opaque) has a bit more glide and has more ability to be finessed on backhand, but can't handle forehand power well at all surprisingly which is basically what I bought them for. They literally feel like two different blends of plastic. I have tried two ESP Anax's and two plasma Tesla's over the past year which fly exactly the same to each other. All in all, I think the Tesla is my favorite between the three. It feels the best in my hand and goes so, so far when I forehand it and it feels more torque resistance to both Thundy and Anax but with a bit less fade. All three are great molds and have slight variations in flight, but I think fit the same slot before they break in at least.
Have had all 3 of these in the last year. My thoughts: Champ thunderbirds start out the most stable, they want to get to the ground and kinda dumpy. They do make great headwind discs and after abit of beat in, seem to really increase their glide. The Anax wants to glide, if you rip it, it holds it height level very well, It is not as stable but that last 15% of the flight it does want to hook up and fade though. Not as stable as numbers. The Tesla I think is pretty plastic dependent. I had a plasma one I think and it felt very similar to the thunderbird, but glided more. Really useful for pushing forward hyzer shots, but at my arm speed (320-335 distance w/them) wasn't really getting any turn on it. Definitely stable-os. I think new my favourite was the Tesla, but after a bit of beating the thunderbird becomes king. Anax kinda undecided on and least experience with.
I love the anax, although it is a 10 speed it’s my favorite fairway. I bag 2, a more straight to stable one and then a flippy one and they’re so money. If im not going distance driver i’m reaching for the Anax.
Already replied to another comment but you were thinking of the MVP Zenith! From what I know they were meant to fly like Conrad’s Beat-in Wraiths. A great hyzerflip disc but definitely not stable enough to fill this specific slot in your bag.
I throw both of these discs quite often, and IMO the Anax is a great forehand disc, whereas the Thunderbird is better for backhands, although both I think are pretty good for really any type of shot
I got a tesla a few weeks ago and it's way more beefy than the numbers would indicate. I don't even have a spot for it because it's so surprisingly overstable.
Love your channel! I’ve been a forehand player for years but you practicing forehand has helped push me to to practice backhand more. I picked up a Finish Line Era in Composite plastic. I think you mentioned it in one of your recent videos. I absolutely love it and wonder if it might fit that slot and be a different brand. Keep up the great vids and hope ya can find a disc ya love that slot!
Funny thing about the Anax is even though it's listed as a 10 speed vs the 9 speed Thunderbird, it actually has a slightly smaller rim than the Thunderbird, measuring in at 18.9mm as opposed to 19.15mm. It does have a slightly sharper nose however. I do find Thunderbirds on the whole a little more overstable than Anaxes, but I have also found both molds suffer quite a bit from run variation, where they can be either beefcakes or straight out of the box. I prefer the hand feel of the Thunderbird. You should review Barela Color Glow Teebird3!
the anax being wider in diameter than a thunderbird I would guess means it glides more. I have both in my bag, prefer the thunderbird bit the anax is stiffer and fights the wind better, but if I throw then really hard the anax goes quite a bit further for me.
Someone else may have already commented this, but I think the MVP disc you were thinking of in a thunderbird slot is the new Zenith - 11, 5, -0.5, 2 Or maybe the Terra, which is my personal favorite over stable workable fairway driver
Just a 2cents here, I’ve had the opposite experience, I’m finding the zenith to be flippy, hyzerflip type disc, like a -1.5 turn. Edit: on throws over 300ft BH and FH
@@acannoli8287 that’s good to know! I haven’t had a chance to throw the Zenith yet - just thought that might be what he had in mind based on the flight numbers. I do bag a Terra though, and I definitely feel like it flies some similar lines to the ones in the video - despite only being an 8 speed
Fire bird definitely my control driver. Whenever I just need dependable fade or hard to accomplish shorter flex shots it's hard to go wrong with this slot.
My Neutron Tesla flies very similar to my beat-in GStar Thunderbird. Straight with mild but reliable finish. MVP runs a bit more stable than the numbers for me. But yeah, I think you wanted the Terra for a more accurate comparison.
I wanted to love the Anax, but I'm a Getaway/PD guy. I've purchased and tried about 8 Anax's. I''ve got several ESP, all types, all are slick and brittle, not durable or grippy at all, hard to throw, end up with chunks missing long before they break in. Once they break in, they flex and fly so erratically that I can't trust them. I have two BigZ and they are just slick and hard. Discraft needs to fix its plastic before they lose more of us. They literally have the worst plastic, on average, in disc golf right now. I bag two Era's for straighter shots and long distance turnovers.
Get yourself a nordic phenom PD. PD is the grandaddy of all these discs. Or. Just throw that Tesla. It seemed like you threw it the best out of these discs. I found Teslas to be plenty overstable. So easy to find a Tesla in all kinds of weights and plastics. Get a 175 fission for overstable. And
In your bag it or bin it drills I don't get why you use the tester discs to putt as well. I mean they are not designed for that. I feel it would be more fare to judge the drivers by what they are supposed to do. Just a thought.
I still love my thunderbirds but all those flights looked nice! I carry different weights of Thunderbird - one max weight and one 165g. The 165g one flies alot straighter for me so the two are super nice together. I throw the 165 for my Thunderbird shots with little or no wind and throw the max weight one for those shots in the wind haha. Would love input on where you fall with that choice tho
@@BodanzaDiscGolf it definitely does for now! Keep us posted when you find that goldilocks control slot for yourself I'm likely to give it a try! New to your channel but I appreciate all the work you put into editing and your follow flights when the disc is harder to see. Good stuff man!
I guess Teslas have changed, I remember having one ages ago and it was very OS and dumpy, much more so than Anax or Thundie. Anyway, been a big fan of the Anax. Don't let the initial stability fool you (especially if you're rocking ESP), the disc beats in pretty quickly and becomes way straighter and ultimately a really nice hyzer flip machine. Great as such but if you're looking to hold on to that stability it's going to require some willingness to cycle fairly often. Been trying out the new C-PD for that exact reason, will see how it turns out after a bit of wear. Would be interested to hear if anyone has experience of Z vs. ESP Anax.
Honest thought. I don’t like reviews where you put with the disc being reviewed. No one’s going to putt with it. And the score won’t always reflect what the disc provides the ‘opportunity’ to shoot. Maybe inside c2 use a putter of choice. Not a deal breaker, but driver putts make me cringe a little. Either way, love your content. Disclaimer: I’m a new disc golfer too, started this last spring.
don't think it hurts practice but I likely won't do it with fairways and drivers here on out. The conclusions about the disc are never related to the score I shoot, that' just a fun way to shoot reviews, but yeah, don't really want to use non putters within a range I feel I can consistently hit metal
Owned the Anax, and then sold it as fast as possible. I despised the hand feel, worse disc I have ever felt. For me it’s a MF teebird3 which is a 8 speed. Then a Wraith all day and every day.
Is calling it On-ex a regional accent thing? I'd call it an An-ex. You seem to have a c shaped smugde in the middle of your lense that made me keep trying to clean my screen repeatedly. Complaints aside, I bag a Tesla and I love it. I also bag a Star Thunderbird and find they have different flights. Maybe Star vs Champ would make you more pro-thundy.
I think calling it On-ex is because that's how it's pronounced if you watch any discraft or PMB vids where they talk about it! The c shaped smudge was sensor dust I didn't realize had gotten into the camera while changing lenses. One more video with it that I filmed the same day but then it won't be there!
@@BodanzaDiscGolf That's really interesting. I did a sanity check before commenting and found it pronounced An-ex: ua-cam.com/video/gQBE4tAby0o/v-deo.html BUT, if the company calls it On-ex that kinda supercedes. Language rules are fun that way. I really enjoy your videos, apologies that my first comment was just complaining.

If I try it I will definitely film it!
You should give the innova savant a try. The flight numbers are wrong and it’s just a better, slightly les os thunderbird. Trust
would to see you try to dye some discs
I definitely want to try that!
Star Thunderbird is where it's at. I know McBeth threw the Champ Thunderbirds, but I think Big Jerm is right and Star is where it's at.
Try the Ethos construct instead.
Love the videos. Hate the shorts lol.
yeah it definitely makes more sense to just use a putter inside the circle, you’d never put with a 10 speed driver realistically
Nice!!
Vulture is more like the thunderbird than the Anax. I bag the Vulture and the Anax, Vulture for uphill and tailwind, Anax for downhill and headwind
Man i hate your deep breaths but still ur videos are awesome haha
loving your videos... but i keep wanting to clean my screen off.. please for the love of golf and good videos... clean your camera lens
Ive found that the tour series anax is more stable in a headwind than the champion thunderbird.
You misquoted the flight numbers at the end. Innova's site claims the numbers are 4,2-1,3. Just so you are aware.
Sounds like it would work and if you're throwing them well that sounds great!
@@BodanzaDiscGolf it definitely does for now! Keep us posted when you find that goldilocks control slot for yourself I'm likely to give it a try! New to your channel but I appreciate all the work you put into editing and your follow flights when the disc is harder to see. Good stuff man!
I prefer my Roadrunner to the Thunderbird.
ESP Anax.
try a star thunderbird
Honest thought. I don’t like reviews where you put with the disc being reviewed. No one’s going to putt with it. And the score won’t always reflect what the disc provides the ‘opportunity’ to shoot. Maybe inside c2 use a putter of choice. Not a deal breaker, but driver putts make me cringe a little. Either way, love your content. Disclaimer: I’m a new disc golfer too, started this last spring.
Also thinking putting drivers can’t be helping your practice either…
don't think it hurts practice but I likely won't do it with fairways and drivers here on out. The conclusions about the disc are never related to the score I shoot, that' just a fun way to shoot reviews, but yeah, don't really want to use non putters within a range I feel I can consistently hit metal
@@BodanzaDiscGolf rootin for ya.
The Tesla seems like a very different disc than the other two...
my name is Inigo Montoya, prepare to fly
Owned the Anax, and then sold it as fast as possible. I despised the hand feel, worse disc I have ever felt. For me it’s a MF teebird3 which is a 8 speed. Then a Wraith all day and every day.
i love the anax
Does anyone else just skip past him putting with drivers and watch him tee off?
I'd say the vulture is better than both
I think the Tesla is 10/4/-0.5/2.5
Any fellow PD enjoyers
I did a sanity check before commenting and found it pronounced An-ex: ua-cam.com/video/gQBE4tAby0o/v-deo.html
BUT, if the company calls it On-ex that kinda supercedes. Language rules are fun that way.
I really enjoy your videos, apologies that my first comment was just complaining.
@@skatterbug No worries! Yeah, I checked to make sure too, lol here's paul's announcement vid - ua-cam.com/video/GotT2Hdk9lA/v-deo.html
@@BodanzaDiscGolf That's pretty concrete. If he's calling it On-ex and referencing the same etymology we just gotta go with it.
