Meh that's what you get teaming with disccrap. Mass produced discs that are slippery plastic not grippy, wear quickly, and are pushed on you by marketing and their team.
The stalker technically fills that gap. I would much rather bridge that gap by hammering my mid ranges or laying off 10 speeds a bit. Fairway drivers have always seemed unnecessary for me personally.
Pleasure seeing you too!! I didn't quite catch you fast enough as I realized you were the first Subscriber to find me and say hi in real life, but if you could reach out to me on instagram I'd love to send you some minis for free!
Love these comparison videos 👍👍 - keep up the awesome work! I had considered ordering an athena, but i already have way too many discs that have similar flight numbers. Maybe i’ll grab one when the hype dies down so they’re more readily available.
Probably a good idea! I was happy to see I could get one from my tournament payouts, but if it wasn't for that or the sake of making videos, I definitely wouldn't have bought one!
I think this may be your best video yet! The new camera is great! Your content is really getting better, this was pretty high quality, man, I see you taking off here soon!
When you watch someone's video and they're playing the course you first learned disc golf at... Except in 2008 when it was a 9 hole course. Love what they did with Knoch Knolls. Great video as well.
Another solid comparison video. Your video style, pace, and tips are all great man! I currently bag the explorer for this slot and don’t see myself switching from it anytime soon.
Discraft is the parent or sister company of DGA and the Athena is IDENTICAL to the DGA Pipeline (look at all the measurements on infinite discs). I’ve been in love with the Pipeline for several years, so glad Discraft is making a prettier more widely available Pipeline lol.
So I played with the Athena in depth and compared it with my beat in Crave in Cosmic Neutron. Those discs are almost identical. The Athena throws about 10 to 20ft further and is a little bit more OS. The Crave tends to hold its flight a bit more which is better for tunnel shots. The Athena is a bit deeper so if feels better backhand while the Crave feels a little bit better forehand. I would highly recommend a Crave if you are looking at a cheaper alternate that flies similar to the Athena.
I bag 4 Explorers now. I just got the Recycled/Biofuzion and yeah, after one round it's already straightened out which is exactly what I was hoping for. I have an Chameleon Opto X that is still just as stable as my Felon, a gold X is stable but gets ready good distance, a Hybrid that is a little straighter yet and then hopefully a flippy Recycled. Money disc for forehand or backhand.
yeah, I think I'm moving that slot to all different explorers and I LOVE the Recycled one. Perfect to be able to get that flight out of the box! I do need to figure out a super stable one, because that ricky opto ice one is nice, but an emerson keith opto x might be even more stable!
@@prattacaster Gold-x? Is that by chance one of the Amateur Matchplay Championship ones with the burst? I just lost mine but can’t recall if the run was Gold-x or just plain Gold. Currently just bagging an Opto, need to pick up a straighter compliment. Either Recycled or Gold. Love the Explorer!
@@justinbutler8418 My gold x is a 2021 an EK signature series. I'd guess yours was a gold. The Recycled is nice if you are looking for one that has some turn after beating in. The Gold X like my Hybrid has more of a straight glide but I wouldn't say either of them turn much at 320-340ft of power
That's on my to do list to figure out the easiest way for me to do fulfillment AND get payment and such figured out, I'll make sure to keep everyone posted as soon as I get it figured out (hopefully by the weekend)
I love your videos. For your next camera, I would get something that shoots 8k. That way you deliver in 4K but can crop in 200% without a drop in quality. All your zooms will look exactly like your wide shots.
I would not recommend an 8k camera to anyone unless your doing nature-documentary and I'm a fulltime filmmaker and have for example owned two REDs.. It wont help in his situation since the camera focuses on him (for example in 04:40 ) so the disc will be out of focus where it lands and even if you had 8k it still wouldnt look that much better if you punch in the image.. Soooo 8k is boarderline pointless here.. The camera he has now is doing the job just perfect.
@@simonlautrup2694 the best part of being outside is that he can increase his fstop and rack to infinity. 8k would make a difference if he is delivering in 4K. It gives him the crop without a quality dip. I also said for a next camera which would be around 3 or 4 years from now.
Thanks for this. I'm an Eagle guy myself! I bag Eagle X and L's pretty much for all my fairway slots but was curious if this was going to be any different.

Teebirds and Explorers are my faves for 7 speed fairways. teebird 3 is more overstable in champion plastic until it hits a few trees. my beat in Buzzz OS can fill in the athena gap I think
I found it unusually difficult to keep the nose down. So far I don't like it. It doesnt really bridge the gap between my anax and buzzz the way i thought it would.

FYI: It is not possible to obtain a prototype/pre-production disc from a manufacturer unless you are very friendly with the owner. They are all PDGA approved discs with a cynical and incorrect stamp on it. I have five genuine pre-production discs, and they are all VERY different to a production disc. And if we are being accurate, and using the word "prototype" correctly, then there is only ONE prototype of each mould, and those are all held by the PDGA, as they were submitted to the PDGA for approval purposes. So, whenever anyone tells you they have a prototype disc, they are wrong.
I guess technically speaking that could be correct, but if you go on any website looking for the athena, they all call it the prototype, so in keeping with their nomenclature that's what I called it. Probably just a branding thing
You could of just said “Athena review and comparison.” The title comes out and pretty much says “don’t buy this disc.” Your only real negative thing you said about it was the price. Is it expensive? Yeah but only because there’s only been a test and proto run of these so far. Once they make a stock run, this will be nothing more than a great tool for Discraft players just like Lat64 with an explorer.
Do I need it? Absolutely not, but at least Discraft is providing this option to their team after having this gap in their lineup for so long.
haha totally! definitely a needed addition, just hoping theyu're not like 100$ each!
