dull instrument!? actually the RS a car made for Audi fans who adore the "classic" 80s era (quattro, s1, IMSA GTO etc...) this 5 cylinder turbo alone is worth the money...especially since they dropped 5 cylinders during the 90s :-! i do understand Audi never really intended to release it in the US. a market where it is all about smallblock V8 cruisers and muscle cars will never ever apreciate the exsistence of this car :-)
Track Tested videos of InsideLine are way much better than before, good job IL, hope to see more review...
What a shame they got rid of the manual. This car deserves one for every generation (along with the RS3).
cool little car
Edmunds is like... a year behind the other auto magazines
If your beloved car performs well here it WILL perform the same on the road, guaranteed. That's the advantage of Edmunds.
for the money. i would fancy a bmw 335d sedan for everyday. diesel is badass. but in snow or rain.. the audi is top shop
How far apart are the cones in the slalom??
Edmunds can you please test a 2003 ML350?
I want to know how it handles and I looked all over the websites but I couldn't fined anything.
Thanks.
I like Edmunds, it gives me the real numbers on the road. Its testers test cars the way you would. I will never drop the clutch on my new 60k AWD at 6000 rpm, neither all of the whiners here. Look at the performance of cars here and compare them with personal races on UA-cam, they are very similar.
This engine should be in the golf and Jetta
Actually the Octane rating (RON for here in Europe, MON for the US) relates to how the fuel is tested. A 91 MON in the States is equivalent the 97 RON we get in the UK/Europe
Looks like it understeers as usual. I'll hang on to my boxster.
Shame that Audi is not well balanced. Same critic for the Audi RS3. The engine sound is really awesome as in the Focus RS or an old Audi Quattro from the 80's. These 5 cylinders sound wild, almost as the V10 of a Viper !
they knew that it was gonna be low volume sales and wanted to target "enthusiasts" but a bunch of tuned up econo box drivers voted for the manual. when people actually looking to spend money at that price point would've been happy to have the faster dual clutch.
The braking test was done at 1:36. The car stopped from 60 in 111ft.
Seriously people. I know Inside Line tests are about as exciting as tofu, but could you at least TRY to pay attention?
yes because all the roads that you will ever drive on is going to be perfect and hit under 4 seconds every time
I agree, for the price I would go with a Boxster, Cayman or Vette.
Nismo Nisaan 370Z VIR -3:12 -45k
Audi TTS VIR - 3:08.4 -50k
Audi TTRS VIR - 3:04:9 - 61k
MS3 VIR- 3:16.0 and 3:16.2 -30k
That's 8 full seconds slower than a TTS, not RS
I think that's because it is a manual gearbox..edmunds did always better 0-60 times than what is claimed..
I cannot find the reason why I'm even subscribed to InsideLine anymore...
Straight lines and circles, what type of test is that?
i want a old quattro coupe turbo. this is the inspiration car for the tt ... hey audi build the quattro concept .i will find a way to buy one.
MotorTrend testing the TT-RS
0-60 4.2
1/4 in 12.8 @107.6
60-0 in 107'
Mini R8. If Audi had brought over the dual clutch, I know at least 2 friends who would've been first in line. It's "competitor", a similarly equipped PDK cayman S (not even R) does just everything better with that dual clutch system. I love stick but you buy 60k cars to show off. Launch control S-tronic would've done that. That and 60k is gently touched Z06 territory if you want a standard manual car...
30 years ago. nothing beat it for the money.
why can't we have both? I'd want the manual but I know many people want the automatic, and I think they should be able to if they want
Interesting comments - I went the other way...bought new in 2009 and got rid of over £300k of garage 'Queens'. To date, still see no reason to buy a V8; V10 or V12. On the question of 335/M3 and STis; GT-r...well, they are all too common really so not for me. We just use the TT-RS for trackdays post some mods to suit and it is fab and considerably cheaper than using my V12 or the V8s garage 'Queens' that are now all sold...so for me the TT-RS is a little 'cheap' toy...all relative I guess...!!!
At 2:39 the guy said it remain a dull instrument? And he also said for $61k he think he spend it else where? dam.... that got to hurt ; )
They bogged it off the initial launch and then granny shifted the rest of the way down the track. Its definitely got a 12 second pass in it, but those are not good enough numbers for a 61k dollar chick-mobile.
could be altitude or temperature
haldex awd. front based awd. bring back the rear centric quattro from audi old days
so that's the reason why fuel in Europe is way more expensive then in the US?
isn't it? it's 2.5L 5 cylinder.
Dull? I don't think so...When are you going to test the Golf R?
I strongly suspect the 4.1 sec on 0-60 is the DSG transmission TT RS time. That was not best review I have seen.
At 1:36, 60-0 in 111ft.
sorry i didnt watch fast and furious could you explain to me, accurately, what granny shifting is?
No. The only real difference is the way the fuel is tested, the quality of the fuel remains pretty much the same. What influences fuel prices between our two continents is, as I understand it, largely down to taxes. In the UK & Europe a large amount of the tax on fuel (around half what you pay at the pump) is used to pay for public services while US government only takes a small percentage. There are other factors of course but way too many to go into here
The looks of a Porsche 911 + Nissan 370Z fused together...
Suzuki grey metallic ttrs coupe Audi baby my favorite Audi color
@1:18 ...poor transmission, those were terrible shifts..
Last time I checked it was a full second slower so it's not "almost as fast".
Oh, deary me. 5-cylinder sounds get me all bothered and hot.
Quick acceleration, but looks like lots of Audi understeer
And where is the braking test?
lol how did i miss that lol
m3 is not 60k dollars. its more. 60k gets you a corvette base model. or a zl1 camaro.335d sedan is 60k. for the money. it lays down nice numbers. tune it and fly. for 40 i get a STI subaru. almost as fast and cheaper.
for 60ka i would get a diesel bmw 335d sedan. 416 ft lb torque and 30 mpg
too bad a bunch of people who will never buy one voted to bring over the 6MT instead of the dual clutch
Wow, low numbers for that price. While I'm a import fan first, followed very closely by being a muscle car fan, I would take a Mustang GT or Camaro SS over this anyday for performance alone.
I thought it would have a nicer interior than that.
For that kind of money I get a slightly use 2008-2009 Nissan GT-R that does 0-60 in 3.1-3.4s and 1/4 in lower 11s (a real man car instead of this girly car.)
And you can get a BMW M3 with a V8 with this kind of money as well.
@TheHm3 Today's generations goes off magazine reviews too much...
sounds like a b5 s4 =D
You would get even slower times...
same accel and brake as a M5, but with half the weight bring it on audi!
Competitive with a Porsche Cayman R? Not even close. (the 2013 Porsche Boxster S did also put down better numbers, look it up at this channel)
Still decent numbers tough.
5 cylinder ftw. sounds like a baby v10
So you ran some number and you don't like the car. Awesome test. Don't use so many words next time your confusing us.
for 35k you cna get a STI and run right with the audi. and get four people in the car.
LOL. There's a 370Z doing donuts at the end of the video.
what this guy says about the car dosnt really matter. Audi brought the TT-RS to America because you guys wanted it. And so they did. And they will sell well because those that said bring it wanted to buy it.
Audi thinks this is comparable to a Cayman R? Yes the TT RS is faster in a straight line but handling wise, no way. Huge understeer from AWD and front-weight bias compared to the mid-engine, RWD Caymen R.
atleast i can drive a manual
he shifts WAAAAAAYYYY too slow
what's wrong woth this guy ?
i'd have a cayman r instead
Ehm, tooooo low RPM's for the start.
.-. 4.5 seconds? 13 second 1/4 mile time?! Come the fuck on! Really?! Do these drivers only know how to drive a Nissan GT-R?! COME ON YOU WERE GIVEN A FUCKING AUDI AWD AND CAN'T PULL OFF A NEAR 4 SECOND 0-60?!
Anyways I'm not biased for the Audi, I'm not even a fan of this 'sports car' class that makes up the Cayman and the TT. I'm a muscle car/tuner/super muscle/supercar fan :\ they fuck those up even worse! They got a fucking 4.1 second 0-60 on a ZR1 WITH Ptm... .-.
so Audi specifically bought this into a market through public demand then you criticise it and say you'd rather spend your money elsewhere? how ungrateful, no wonder Audi didn't let you have it, you neither deserve or appreciate it's capabilities - or maybe your driving skills aren't good enough for the car.
I love audi for the class and styling. But when it comes to performance, they just fail against their competition. For 61k, I'll get me an m3.
i love german cars. but about the same as a sti. come on audi
of course muricas like this guy will spend 60k in a mustang, a dodge charger or a camaro SS because they love the sound of the V8s and can make the 0-62 mph 0.1 secs faster!!! muricaaa! 😂
your 0-60 times are becoming more true to real life numbers. its never close to the manufacturer's acclaimed numbers. those are only for marketing and sales gimmick.
that was a shitty launch lol
thing is slower than my tuned STI and i dont think it should be
Don't worry, its just Edmunds, they can't drive.
Ill take a Shelby gt 500 over this any day
Car and Driver managed to accelerate the TT RS from 0-60 in 3,6 seconds. Edmunds Insideline sucks!
rong shifts
Spend your $ elsewhere... Good advice. PORSCHE: There is no substitute.
Lmfao Audi fan boys goin crazy can be everything like altitude or temperature or tires or somthing else, every one know the new audi TT is fail in every way 61k isnt worth at all
really? I would drop it all the time....just to smoke a BMW and see the look on his face. I have money for clutches......problem?
not the best launch technique...
30k overpriced!
انا الاولل هاهاهاه واشطح
So 4 or 5 clutch jobs= 20K + 60K= 80k, why not buy a used 911 turbo and smoke almost everybody, this one included!!! I'm sorry, it's your money. Don't get me wrong, I love to see a 6000 rpm clutch drop. Upload the video and I will share it.
insideline sucks at car reviews
Let's see how much faster YOU shift...
These guys suck at testing cars, they're times are always the slowest. This cars 0-60 has hit the high 3 secs in other tests
Meh
Please lose the cheesy music and visual effects. Go back to the simple and straight forward track test vids you used to do!!!
your so sad...
US spec cars sucks!
Track tested- with street cones. Garbage.
who cares. Manual is way better
