    I love how at 30:56 the time ship from Space Quest 4 shows up. Excellent little Easter Egg they threw into the remake.

    I grew up playing the Apple II GS version of all the Sierra games. Using the keyboard to move your characters and typing in commands to do stuff. So much fun, and yet so much frustration trying to figure out what you were supposed to do next. It's nice there are actually some sites out there that have these games available to play for free using an emulator. I revisited some of the King's Quest games and SPace Quest and Gold Rush. Good memories.

      Dang, lucky dog. The II GS versions of Sierra's games were undoubtedly the best. I've played a few on emulators, and it's amazing how good that computer sounded with the old AGI games. :)

      I would like to see the creator of Limbo and Inside(Arndt Jensen and Playdead studios)either do a reboot of any of the first 3 Space Quest games or to make a worthy continuation. I preferred the old school typing command interface of the first three games(same with the Kings Quest, Police Quest and other series)to the point and click mouse gameplay of the latter sequels. Playing Inside on the Switch, I imagined something between the two could be achievable seeing as Playdead studio’s next game is going to be 3D as opposed to the first two 2D games.

    I played the original EGA version back in the day. It was pre-internet and the only way to get through the game was to buy a mail-order hint book, or call Sierra's hint hotline!!

    • @superguy6892
      @superguy6892 3 роки тому +1

      When the game first game out, the hint hotline was so overloaded the phone company operators started just telling everyone to go back to the crash site and look ground and get glass to get past the laser in the cave.. :) But yeah, the invisible ink hint books were fun too.

      That's because your computer is too fast. Some things in this game rely on your computer's clock speed. If you're playing on a modern machine from less than like twenty years ago, your computer is way the hell too fast.
      Play in Dosbox or something like that and use lower clock cycles.

    You don’t have the sound configured correctly to take advantage of both the MT-32 for great orchestral music and the SoundBlaster for digital SFX. At the start of a game, you should hear a female voice saying “Self Destruct Sequence is engaged…” Also, the door opening sounds use the door sound effect from Star Trek. (And tons of other digital sound effects.)

    I remember in the old EGA version, you could get the spider droid to kill the Orat by going into the cave and hiding when being chased. Does that not work in this one? I noticed the Orat cave still has the rock to hide behind.

    • @dawnbreaker2912
      @dawnbreaker2912 7 років тому +3

      Yes, it does, and that's actually the 'proper' method, since it doesn't require getting rid of your water.
      Also, you can get the Orat part before even going down into the cavern, so you don't need to go through it twice.

    • @suejak1

      Disagree. Even if contracted out, the VGA versions all have a great original charm to them

    • @sierrakobold6896
      @sierrakobold6896 5 років тому +2

      yeah I grew up with Sierra and the vga remakes I usually like better, also they weren't sourced out to others, the same orginal creators did this and all the remakes for the other series

    • @oppie47
      @oppie47 5 років тому +1

      SierraKobold
      Except that I’ve heard an interview with Scott Murphy saying he absolutely hated “what they did to my game.” Yes, the remakes were done by Sierra, but they were usually made with minimal involvement of the original designers. The remake of King’s Quest I, for example, was designed almost entirely by Josh Mandel, who was given permission by Roberta Williams to make any changes along the way. I think Al Lowe and the Coles had a little bit more direct involvement with their remakes which is ironically why they were the most faithful to the original games. I’m fairly sure Jim Walls had already left Sierra by the time his game was remade.

    • @sierrakobold6896
      @sierrakobold6896 5 років тому +1

      yeah I heard that with a lot of the series. Scott or Mark were really pissed when Ken enforced the point/click interface in SQ4 cuz when he asked them they said they wanted text interface but he completely ignored em. they had what seemed like supervisory control but didn't necessarily produce the game coding, programming art direction etc. But the Coles I heard were very attached with even the QFG1 remake and produced it as any other in the QFG series, I talked to Corey Cole and asked about more detail of QFG3 creation besides what us Sierra fans already know, he explained and articulated all the big and little reasons Wages of War was created. Also too I say SQ1 vga is my favored version because of nostalgia, so Its more what I prefer instead of necessarily rating the gameplay . I was born in '88 so basically all the big series first titles I had only seen and played the VGA remakes as a kid long before I explored the series more intimately

    • @oppie47
      @oppie47 5 років тому +1

      SierraKobold
      I understand what you mean about nostalgia for the remakes. I was born in 83 and my dad bought our first family computer in 92, so all of the remakes had been released by the time I got to any of them. My first Space Quest was the remake of SQ1, which I got in June 94. That said, I can still get a sense of nostalgia playing the original because I so vividly remember the easter egg in KQ2, which I got as a Christmas gift from my aunt in Dec 93. So even though I technically played the SQ1 remake first, I nonetheless got to see what the original looked like first and I have a sense of nostalgia for both.
