Lovely car. Looks fantastic compared to all the boring boxes we have today, plus it's wonderfully refreshing to see a manufacturer strive towards comfort and creating a nice space to be in, rather than low profile tyres and ridiculously firm suspension because people seem to have an inability to deal with body roll these days.

I think Citroen was, is and will be the best car company, because it does not try to make fast and sporty cars, but extremely comfortable and safe. However, if you want to run and accelerate quickly, it provides you with that feature as well. Anyway, the speed limit is 130 km/h

My new dream top gear members would be Rory (inheriting the role of Richard Hammond), The guy from Carfection (He'd inherit the role of James May), For the Jeremy character, I'm not sure(Le blanc was good, but maybe someone British ... My dad has a C5 from 2007 with 150.000 miles. Still love the car but is getting less economical to drive ( in town), and some maintenance issues recently. He is looking for a upgrade, so we test drove a C5X. I have to say so much better on some aspects like, build quality, noise, vibrations, seats & tech. The C5X is way better in corners compared to the old ones. On the motorway I feel like the old Hydro pneumatic suspension is more comfortable than the new one. Also the plugg in model has a really tiny boot for the size of the car. I am not to convinced about the 1.6liter motor. When you floor it it makes a lot of noise, gearbox doesn't feel a smooth as it could be. The C5X with Electric motor & 80kwH / 175kw charge speed would be the dream edition of this car.

    • @joshpipe7755

    • @therenikus9048
      @therenikus9048 Рік тому +1

The hybrid has a few downsides (really slow charging, low range, less space, higher maintenance & insurance, losing worth quite fast too) and a bit softer suspension than the fuel engine. What I did not like driving the hybrid was mostly the gap you get when you hit the pedals a bit more rough and you feel when the real engine kicks in. As long as you are more relaxed, you barely notice when the 2nd motor joins the party. Noise level is really low if you get the upgraded glass though, havent tested the normal glass to be honest.
As for the normal engines, both combustion engines are good on their own and for the way the car is designed. It's like complaining in a Ferrari that a Rolls Royce is more comfortable and complain on the Rolls that the Ferrari is faster in acceleration.

What a superb review Rory ! Kudo's for that. What a superb car the C5X is, Imho it is a very sleek and elegant looking shooting brake. Forget about the marketing blah and just enjoy it's sleek lines.
Comfort wise it is a winner. It is a pity that there is no EV version so that I am stuck with the ë-C4 wich is no crime. Citroën is back on track.

How nice that someone has endeavoured to make a comfortable and peaceful car rather than angry, sporty ones, especially as the roads in the UK are such a mess. I hope they make a proper estate version though, there’s a degree of style over substance in that coupe styling and a complete lack of style in the Aircross C5.

More of these 'normal' car reviews Rory! 😍

Its restrained, very grown up, very compelling. All the car one would need in a place like the UK, it has an achilles heel though, Lexus RX. I wonder how the two would compare on comfort..

Lexus is v Partridge. You'll need driving gloves and slacks.

The Lexus RX appears to be more than double the price of the Citroen C5X, though :(

What isn't covered here is that they're good value. The entry spec car (still well equipped) is easily found for around 25,000. It's much cheaper to buy than most cars this size. Depreciation may be steep, but then again that seems less of a thing these days and it's cheaper to start with so may do better than big french cars traditionally have.
Across the range, The hybrid is 8-9 grand more and you'll never make that back in BIK and fuel savings on any realistic scenario. But it's a nice drive and the savings do at least narrow the gap.

Great car indeed even on entry level, I hope they built it as a pure electric later on and offer 4x4. And a bit sad I did not get the better suspension on the big puretech model which was only built for 4 months before discontinuing the big engine for CO2 reasons.

@@therenikus9048 looks like (in the UK, at least) they've dropped the Sense range. It's now only 2 engines and 2 trims. 1.2 and hybrid and sense plus and shine.
This kinda thing usually means it's not shifting in enough volume. And I don't think I've ever seen one on the road.

I liked the car, pity they did not ship in the top model into Australia. Looked well put together considering where it's made. Can't understand why they forgot to put in a rear armrest. Probably okay in the city, I live in rural Australia and felt the small engine not powerful enough for overtaking road trains on our crappy roads.
